  • Roy Bloom, APF CJF, is demonstrating a good technique for keeping your nipper sharp and cutting well. He recommends doing this whenever you feel the nipper is losing some of its cutting performance. For more information, visit www.farrierproducts.com.

I've heard others say, and I also believe, that you should never sharpen the top because it's not supposed to be beveled. You can open the jaws and sharpen inside and remove the burr, but don't sharpen the top at all.

There should be a very small bevel on the top edge- but you have to be very conservative when sharpening that bevel.

Helpful to mark the sharpening edges with a marker to show if you have missed an edge or area. Nicely done

Do most farriers sharpen their nippers? A farrier I spoke with said he replaces his when it gets dull.

Has anyone used this for sharpening farrier knives like Diamond or F. Dick knives?

What grit is the diamond hone? I know he says fine and superfine but what actual grit is that, like 600?
    Thanks

He says the tool he's using is fine/super fine. But if you go to DMT's website the blue and red is course/fine. The fine/extra fine is red and green. Can anyone clarify this? For my money I think the course/fine would be the best for farrier tools.

what kind of file is that? and where can I find one?

Hi Justin, I believe it is made by DMT- Diafold® Double Sided Sharpener. I'm not sure where would be the best place to find it but if you put that in your search bar it should come up with some choices for you.
