I love Jez wearing a balaclava to hide his identity, but it is a full open face balaclava.

Promotion is down to the individual employer so there is a lot of variation of how it works.

Loving these, guys. IMHO Peep Show grows into itself and really picks up after season one. 2 onwards you'll watch some smashers.

06:23 - in answer to this question; to my knowledge there isn't really a typical promotion pattern over here. In my experience it's mostly done from if someone above you moves on, you're in the running to fill that spot if your company thinks highly enough of you. In this country I believe there is a general rule that year on year - as long as you're still valuable to the company - they will look to give you a small annual pay increase (maybe 5 or 10 percent), and sometimes they will add an extra holiday (vacation) day to your allowance per year.

    The George reference is valid.
I love how Larry David really did quit in style, only to return on Monday and pretend nothing had happened. He did this as a writer on Saturday Night Live. And he kept his job!

Promotion occurs two ways. One is a post is adsvertised, you apply for it, get it or not as the case may be. Alternatively a temporary vacancy occurs and you act up or do a secondment. At the end of that vacancy you apply for the substantive post as above but you have the experience of doing the job. All has to be done by an open process, usually by interview between competing candidates.

Somebody telling you "nobody reached the required level" is tantamount to spitting in your face when they've just interviewed you for the post. A quick realignment of loyalties and fast exit would be required.
You don't stay when they've told you you're not good enough, because that means you're going nowhere and wasting your time.

Most corporate/office/management etc promotions are interview based. Looking for who is right to represent the company on a higher level. Take on more responsibility... all that kind of thing, including travel associated availability for attending conferences, meetings and so on.
For Trades/warehousing/labour etc work, it's usually just a pay increase with additional skills learned, these might include paid training by the company.

Mark has worked there ages.. you can’t just be fired in the UK. They need evidence … like a dna test on that urine.😂 otherwise they need to discuss it with you and give you a chance to help you improve.

In my line of work, "promotion" consists of standing in for someone or covering shifts until that someone leaves and the employers need to fill that space. There's that romantic idea of the employer spotting the best people and lifting them up, but I ain't seen it.

19:50 one is 0% confidence, 100% intelligence, awkward, and does have a filter, but he’s a borderline psychopath. The other with maximum confidence, 0% intelligence, no shame whatsoever and no filter either. The result is chaos xD

Hey guys, I’m waiting for the next black adder goes forth, episode five. It’s been three weeks now since you did the last one. When do you plan to do that one?

  • @daveofyorkshire301

You can't just fire someone in the UK without full verbal and written warnings first, and if you do so without probable cause you're going to answer to a tribunal or a civil suit, breaking an employment contract can cost the company a lot!
There is "wrongful dismissal" and "unfair dismissal" dependent upon you being there under or over two years. After two years you gain additional regulatory support. Short of gross negligence or gross incompetence instant dismissal is unheard of, and they need to be provable if challenged.

Promotion in the uk is based on 2 things.. luck, and how far you can get your nose up the bosses axs…

  • @simonread8713
    @simonread8713 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Promotion in the UK usually comes down to how much of a kiss-ass you are and whether you speak to the right people in the smoking area every day.
In sales jobs, it comes down to how much you sell, which then puts people with no management experience/people management skills in positions they're not fit for.
Academia appears to be (from experience) the only actual merit-based promotion system we have.

Promotion happens if you're an attractive Thai lady who has four weeks off sick and says she might leave because she doesn't like working with me so gets offered a job in a different unit that im not to go into now inless i really need to, i would of taken that job if she dont like me anymore, ive been with the company 9 years, shes only been there 2 years, or you can be a guy who had almost a year off through covid because he is vulnerable then we work fine without him so comes back to a better job somehow when they could of asked anyone who worked all through the pandemic, one other way is to kiss the arse of the managers and just keep asking for a promotion until they find you so annoying they just create a new job for you to shut you up or you can be shit at your job and make loads of mistakes so they move you to do something easier and you still get same pay as others working harder doing the more difficult jobs.
