I don't know if you discovered this one yet or not, but if you pause the game, you can change your items with the select button even when it's paused. it makes changing items on the fly a lot safer
33:57 The way the game transitions from the happy-go-lucky overworld music to Death Mountain/Level 9's music is like the game said "shit is about to get real now."
Just because enemies deal quarter damage (blue ring halves damage taken, red ring instead quarters damage taken), you shouldn't neglect getting hearts when your health appears full... it doesn't show it but you do accumulate damage from low damage attacks.
That would explain why one of the Armos did a half heart of visible damage, then later another one seemed to do nothing. Having barely played the original LoZ, I definitely didn't know that. :)
Locked doors don’t give you anything special. You can skip the room by unlocking it if you have the key. By defeating the enemies and then using the key, you’re wasting a key.
It's The Legend of Zelda and it's really rad, those creatures from Ganon are pretty bad! Octoroks, Tektites, and Leevers, too, but with your help our hero pulls through
Jared, for dodongos, just do what speedrunners do. Drop 2 bombs back to back, then start stabbing. You will make them swallow one, the second will blow up, triggering the stun and then kill. That always gives a net gain of 2 bombs so you don't need to risk it. Also, you did not like the pancake room, that room was not like liked.
I feel like skipping the boomerang isn't even just about saving money. If you can't pause to swap items, then skipping an item or two that you don't want also makes it a lot easier down the line to swap between the items that are actually worth having. Given the rules of this mod, I feel like the triple dodongo room is probably the most menacing thing in the entire game. Especially once you have so many upgrades, that there no longer exists any conventional threats.
i feel like viewers lose an iq point every time a youtuber/streamer says that crap. 'lets go' and 'im a gamer/gamer moment' are some of the most cringy things to constantly hear
@@gurvmlk 'lets play' is a genre of video. "A Let's Play (LP) is a video or screenshots that document someone playing a video game, often with commentary and/or a camera view of the player's face. Let's Plays can be streamed live, such as on Twitch, or uploaded for playback, such as on TH-cam or TikTok. The commentary can be live or scripted, and may be humorous, irreverent, or critical. Let's Plays differ from video game walkthroughs or strategy guides because they focus on the player's subjective experience with the game"
Unironically, the CTA for comment actually reminds me to put something on these. Don't feel annoying abt it! These videos have been great. Striking that vein of "exploring an unknown land using mastery from my childhood" is still great content, Jared. +1
I was getting worried you would die since the end of the video was getting closer, phew! with the red ring and so many hearts, there's really no reason you should die if you play carefully, I think you got this!
Good run so far Jerd. FYI the ghosties that you run into(that are typically in the graveyard on the overworld) it’s not always the slowest ghost but the one you can kill only travels up and down and left and right and never diagonal. ☺️
So one thing I thought about is how good the red ring is, and its not only that with 4 hearts being like 12 hearts. But grabbing one heart equals 4 hearts
After this, you gotta play the zelda classic randomizer: omega by HeroOfFire. It's effectively the original game but with modern items and absolute tons of new items, dungeons and other such content. You can have as much or as little randomization as you want, and you can make the run really small or really really big based on your preference. You can have up to 4 different overworlds with up to 4 sets of 9 dungeons each if you want. It also has modern zelda stuff like the hookshot or spin attack and lots of custom items too.
ancient cave is a term originally from the amazing Lufia series. people in general sleep on Lufia 3, and thus most people incorrectly think Lufia 2 is the best in the series. Ancient Dungeons are definitely the best parts of all of the Lufia games!
I'm definitely one of those who thinks Lufia 2 is the best in the series. Lufia 3 is fine, but between its incredibly bland dungeons that are more tedious than interesting, a battle system that feels almost wasted with how little the game actually utilizes its own mechanics to present the player with a genuine variety of challenges, and characters who frequently act like they're no older than 10 years old with their childish bickering and insults, the whole game winds up being one of those games where nothing it does really pans out in a particularly outstanding way. Still a fun game that's more good than bad, but everything it does just leaves me feeling like it was lacking in what those features should've been. Especially since I can forgive those flaws for the game being on the Game Boy Color, but that to me just screams that it shouldn't have been on the Game Boy Color in the first place.
Maybe they are lasagna. Maybe it's like how there are fancy Latin names (Piscis) and then common names (fish) of animals. fancy: keese; common: bats fancy: stalfos; common: skeletons fancy: like like; common: lasagna

Huh....running through a dungeon killing mutants, monsters and heretics......with a flame thrower...one could argue a heavy flamer thanks to damage upgrades. Are we sure Link isn't the 2nd primarch?😂😂
One thing I've wondered... Are Silver Arrows required? And if so... would skipping a room like 20:53 or 32:10 make the game unbeatable, if only one instance of the Silver Arrows is available per run (and possibly hidden as a treasure for clearing a room)?
Managed to get a boss room next to a shop room. Rare situational flavor text from the old man: "The screaming from next door won't stop." 🤣

Nice tip.
Starting the episode with the red ring, white sword, and blue candle/medicine. It's an Independence Day miracle!

😂 damn that's pretty funny
Thank you for putting that together, that was simply brilliant! 🤣
Jared with the clutch win in the Dodongo boss room!!!

yep, that's why I always pick up health. every single time.
Thanks for letting me know about this game! Made it to Gannon and he had 1 hit left and I died! 😂🤦🏻♂️

yes, save the keys for when there's enemies you really don't wanna deal with, like the Pol Voce (bunny things)
He started doing that in this video. He’s been saving his keys for skips
But what happens to the item drop of a skipped room?
@@gurvmlk There might be a check for that, shouldn't be too difficult since need to kill all the enemies in a room to spawn a prize.
Damn that 4 headed Gleeok room was a HUGE upgrade for ya.
Anyone who has played this mod probably also realized how lucky this run has been. Lol
"Welcome back! We're killing it!". I was so worried you were going to immediately die XD
Brother Jared, get the flamer...
*acquires Red Candle*
The heavy flamer.
Jared upon entering the room filled with pancakes: Glad I don’t have a shield right now!
Me: I wish there was a waffle room and not a pancake room.
If pancakes steal your shield, waffles steal your sword. XD
That could work in a game like this where upgrades are RNG-based. xD

Jared just MELTING his enemies with fire!
It's time to start asking yourself the big questions "are tectites a baby gohma?"
At this point, the only thing killing Jared is himself walking into all of the fire he keeps shooting out.
Having a great time with this series bud

Lucky Jared with the key in that blue knight spam room!

I legit cheered at the outcome of room 151, and then shared the “oh crap” moment in that last room. Lets goooo

Jared: I need to save my bombs incase I come across a room with dadangos. Also Jared not even 2 minutes later: More useless bombs yaaay.
Better to have too many, than too few.
LMFAO my completed run - I didn't get the White Sword until room 249. Lucky guy getting that Master, lol!
its crazy how many ways I've watched you play the first zelda game, but this is one of the coolest
Duuuude I wanted this episode to keep going 🤣
The keys are for skipping fighting the enemies within. Just go through the door without fighting anything.
I think having a counter showing how many times Jared says "Let's Go" would be at least double digits in each episode.
