To explain how powerful Shalltear is, imagine if Malenia from Elden Ring used a mimic tear, now everyone who fought her probably got a chill down their spines.
Another key aspect to Shalltear's effectiveness as a floor guardian and a defender to the Great Tomb of Nazarick is her placement. Specifically, making her the first guardian. In Yggdrasil, it was common for guilds to be elaborately trapped and defended, combining a labyrinth of traps with strong NPCs to beat any invaders. As the first serious threat at the very entrance to the guild base, any invading players that encounter her are very likely to be conservative, reserving their stronger skills and mana for later in the tomb, while also relying on summons and mercenary NPCs to carry them through the early defences of the guild. This is an incredibly serious mistake, as her blood frenzy would only make her stronger. In the game blood frenzy was a buff that would make her stronger the more blood she was covered in, meaning the longer she was in combat the stronger she would get. Combined with her blood pool which gave her effectively unlimited mana and her Divine lance which would benefit from her increased strength to provide even more life steal, this made her nearly unstoppable once she gained some momentum. If invading players tried to fight conservatively when they encountered her this would only enable her to gain some stacks of buffs, and by the time they start to take her seriously and use more powerful skills and magic she has already greatly increased in strength than when she was when they first encountered her. The most effective method to beat Shalltear is to dump as much power as possible into beating her immediately, before she gets stronger in a battle of attrition. But invaders are likely to be too cautious and hold back, intending to save their strength for later, and ultimately fall into the trap of allowing her to grow stronger. Once Shalltear has gained momentum and has some stacks of blood pool and blood frenzy, enemy players might realise that she is growing stronger over time, and attempt to one shot her by sacrificing their strongest skills or magic, but she can counter such skills with her impure shield, magic destruction, and resurrection item. This means that she can potentially force players into wasting their trump cards early, and make them greatly expend resources on defeating the first guardian. Its also unknown whether her Einherjar benefits from her bonus stats when its summoned. It would be pretty busted if a hyper buffed Shalltear could summon a hyper buffed Einherjar. Its also unknown whether or not she resurrects with all her buffs intact, which would be broken as well, but Yggdrasil doesn't seem to be a game that cared for game balance. This is the first guardian. Even if players defeat her, they will now be wary of this tactic, and are now more willing to expend stronger skills and mana early. As the next guardian is Gargantua, a literal mountain of a sponge tank that eats damage for breakfast, players are more likely to drain themselves early, making them more vulnerable to later guardians.
The things that constantly impress and disappoint me in this show are how well planned out this guild's entire existence was and how little it's covered in depth. We really could use a canon game or some source of media that's primarily focused on world-building.

On top of that the light novels and web novels are A LOT more detailed than shows are. I've read Sao, arifureta, a few volumes of overlord and each one has the same pattern that the shows aren't showing being a lot of information left out but literally all of it is in the books you won't miss a thing from the pattern of how things are going.

54:56 D&D does have 10th tier spells, even "super tier" ones which would be 11th and 12th ones, which are called Epic Magic. They aren't normally accessed by players but they do exist.
fun fact: 10th and higher level spells used to be accessible to any spell caster of high enough level and were not restricted to "epic" rules. In canon when Karsus tried to steal control of the weave from the goddess of magic, he used a 12th level spell (i think) and it was partially successful but was destroyed with the backlash of the pure power of the weave. When the goddess of magic was reborn, she created "epic rules" to prevent any mage from using magic over 9th level.

I've seen this and Pandora's Actor Supercuts now. I absolutely love listening to these while working on both hobby and labor. I know it's basically just a rehash of the previous videos but with slight tweaks for what you found later, but something about having it all together really makes it special. Shelltear reminds me of "Claudia". However, Bloodfallen is lacking Claudia's cunning and strategy. Which makes me enjoy watching the Dwarf arc so far. As Shelltear is learning to strategize on different situations. Imagine if "Lestat" would be Shelltear's mentor.
That reminds me of Claudia from arifureta after stories who is the clumsiest and bad luck for 1 girl I have ever seen. She falls down stairs, she could trip over legitimately nothing in her path, she fell over a chair, on the airport she covered her eyes with something to go to sleep then she woke up panicking shouting it's dark! Did something happen! Continuing to panick to the point she completely fell off her reclining chair, constantly gets caught in rotating doors because of her giant cross she carries which is why she falls down stairs and trips over nothing, 1 time already while carrying it she was excited that she did a bonzai pose with it still in hand and pinned her to the floor...again, back seat in a car there they hit a bump her drink goes up and all over her own face. Endo was wondering if her subordinates EVER help her which they replied it's a lot of work and this happens all this happens just in her daily life every single day, their so used to it happening they have stopped helping. She is the almost equal to touma from rail gun in turns of bad luck. Saddest part is she's a exorcist from the church and the cross she always carries around you would think tries to kill her from how much bad luck she has they described it as the God of fortune and a God of bad luck are both in her everyday life. That's the Claudia I had in mind when you said that lol I was like are we talking about the same one? Honestly I was wondering why didn't her subordinates kick her out of being a exorcist if she's that much of problem/liability but turns out she's the strongest. That being said, given that and the fact that her Bloody Valkyrie armor does have a bit of a passing resemblance to Dracula’s from the Francis Ford Coppola movie (from when he was still Vlad the Impaler), I have to wonder whether Peroroncino was a massive fan of both and just a huge vampire enthusiast in general.
46:16 shalltears wolves are only level 7 and with how many of the others she summoned at once it's pretty certain that they are of a similar level, there's no doubt the giant bats she summoned while chasing arche are a higher level though

Shaltear also has a few other Parallels with Remilia Scarlet. Remilia's weapon of choice is the spear Gungnir from norse mythology. It's often depicted as made of energy or crimson metal. Shaltear has both an energy spear and a lance as her weapon. She's also a Valkyrie which is also from norse myth. Both Shaltear and the touhou project vampires are likely a reference to Claudia from Ann Rice's *Interview With a Vampire* (though not explicitly) as Rice was the one who popularized the small girl vampire trope. I say not explicitly because Claudia acted her actual age and not her physical age. That being a world weary woman in her 60s as opposed to a 7 year old. She knew how to act the part of a lost and scared little girl to lure in her prey, but she was very explicitly not a little girl. A further reference might be the book Carmella. Or rather, influence. As it is partially responsible for the hyper sexuality of vampires and the abundance of lesbians in vampire stories. (Debatably the furthest root might date back way further to the worship of Dionysus/Bacchus back in the greek and then roman empire.) (Also, it's an easy mistake to make, but touhou project is a series of games. Not a show. It's a really common mistake since the fanart and full fanimations scream "anime" and not "game" and there is a LOT of fanart.)
55:12 actually in the lore there were wizards that used 10th lvl magic and one 11th lvl which allowed the user to become a literal god for a small period of time, but when it happened the magical backlash from it was so intense that the goddess of magic at the time had to commit suicide to stop it. Or at least that is what I heard.
I believe that incident in dnd is called "Karsus Folly" Karsus was a young prodigy (compared to the standard wizard they who where centuries old he only had a few 100s at the time) and the most prominent wizard at the time and to save his flying city (which was powered by magic) he prepared a spell that could literally control a god and he chose the Godess of Magic. The thing is once he acquired such power since he was just a mortal he didn't knew what to do with it or couldn't handle it and in the end leading to magic as a whole crashing down. (Which meant that the ton of flying cities that the human's lived in came crashing down cause there was no magic to power them) He nearly caused the extinction of humanity. The thing is if he would have chosen any other god it would not have been so disastrous as the one who controlled literally all of the magic in the universe. Mind you this is a universe where magic is a very fundamental component of it.... so yeah he dun goof on a cosmic scale. That's why 11th tier magic is banned by the big daddy of the deities. It's kinda strange that Shalltear loves Ainz, since unlike Albedo's bio which Ainz changed in season 1, he didn't do that with Shalltear's info so it's possible that her creator had a crush on the guy who is Ainz in real life, since The NPC's are reflections of their creators. 🤔
1. Ainz is the only supreme being left, which Albedo even goes as far as hating the others for "abandoning" them(the NPCs). 2. Ainz is something akin to a god for them. 3. Ainz is a relatively close friend with Peroroncino. 4. All NPCs love Ainz. In one way or another.
Shalltear grows stronger as a Levelboss the deeper you go in the first three leveless. She will ultimately overgrow the enemy and noone ever surpassed her. That is how she has been created, as a taunt to go deeper but inevitably undefeatable. It fits her first appearance, luring and cute but then a monstrous beast, after that - realizing for everyone seeing her true face - an armoured blodknight basically indefeatable and so strong she could even defeat a member of the clan if he would not watch out. Nobody acting as a member could ever overcome her. Which might be the true reason why she has been mind controlled, to test him if he is a true member of the old clan.

I hadn't thought about circumstances through to this degree of minutiae. The coonsideration really does a lot to build on the established knowns of Shalltear's experience, outlook & happenstance. Especially the idea concerning potential buried feelings & desires towards relationships with Supreme Beings. Adding the practised BDSM power dynamic that she uses to interact with others & it dovetails into an especially harrowing self-realization to her: she attacked a Supreme Being (Momonga/Ainz) without any BDSM meaning, only destruction. I'm not sure Shalltear currently has much capacity to handle others outside of a dom or sub role, & certainly not involving a Supreme Being. This is all on top of undead potentially feeling additional influence from being in the proximity of necromancers, even with necro-attraction. Shalltear is essentially powerful undead made into a type of paladin & designed by a min-maxxer to remove the traditional weakness that keep vampires balanced. And then her worldview was shattered in a way that forgetting cannot heal, & her practised way of finding her feet are kinda lost & unreliable.

You asked, I'm telling. I've watched the whole thing, twice. Even watched them when they were in multiple parts. Great stuff, I look forward to your content on Overlord almost as much as the show itself.
I think Shinobu is uniquely suited to be an incredibly dangerous opponent for even the strongest Vampires in fiction. She has absurdly fast regeneration, energy drain that even works on other vampires and a sword that specializes in destroying apparitions that also likely includes vampires. Plus she's very tall, muscular and doesn't even need her heart to survive on top of everything else, additionally; at the end of the Monogatari main series she doesn't seem to be effected by sunlight either which was her last remaining weakness (which failed to kill her anyways in the alternate universe). Koyomi Araragi barely managed to defeat her when she was just a tiny bit serious in a fight and only succeeded because of the abilities he inherited from her and mainly the Energy Drain at that. She can blatantly ignore most rules simply by choice like casting a shadow or appearing in mirrors, oh and she was worshipped as a Goddess for a time too. Shinobu Oshino could possibly stand toe to toe with the Crimson Daddy himself; Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate and likely it would be a coin toss over who wins. Though alternatively those two might enjoy each other's company and if they ever existed in the same timeline would have probably at least heard of each other since they're around the same age.

I especially enjoyed your extreme level of research in both comparing the attributes of Shalltear to game theory, D&D rulings, and the 3 iterations of her (web, light novel, and anime). These videos are great for playing in the background when I am gaming. They are nice in the sense that I get a deeper look into a character or story that the anime doesn't really offer.
I enjoyed this a lot, thank you 💙 She is probably my favorite character in Overlord based on appearance and theme but I won't lie and say she didn't fall a bit due to the abuse, being someone who's a little familiar with abuse but I understand that it's her race and vampires are generally twisted beings. I do wish she was a little smarter lol. All in all she's still my favorite and you did an amazing job!
Gotta say if videos were this long about every guardian in overlord it'd be amazing esp the deep read about their creators and what traits they might have taken or their secret desires that the guardians somehow gained from their creator. Favourite example is the psyche of how the vampire brides were treated by shalltear and how it might say something deep of perorocino.
The Valkyrie part somehow reminded me of Flugels from NGNL Zero, such majestic godkillers. Love them so much😍 Ofcourse I like Jibril from present day NGNL, but theres something about Jibril murdering Shuvi that hits me just at the right spot🥴
If you guys read the light novel they have a very sad and lonely past. They were created as weapons to serve as their God artosh. Their so used to violence that they don't understand emotions at all hense in the Elkia vs werebeast "is this what humans call love" so their God is dead while every single flugel follows their new leader azril ( not the Pokémon) its jibrils 'sisters' name so right after artosh got killed she ordered all the flugel to kill themselves which they think they HAVE TO follow her orders so they all did until jibril stopped her which a lot did before jibril arrived. Jibril persuaded her if she can return with a new master azril will let all the flugels live. Now when pledges were placed they all lived in aveijheim which is basically on top of a ixseed called phantasma . During the council of the 18 wings Azril made a rule to have everyone share the books which pissed jibril off massively that she moved out and since murder is forbidden flugel collecting books are basically worth their own lives she went to elkia's grand library won and lived there ever since. Before sora and shiro showed up it was somewhere between 2000 - 10,000 years of boredom and loneliness which you can pick up on hense materialize shiritori game jibril wanted them to last as long as possible from how deathly bored out of her mind she was she showed it from the beginning so she didn't want it to end so quickly. No game no life in the show lasted 3 volumes, volume 6 is the entire ngnl zero movie while everything else picks up exactly where it lefts off. 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10,11 are all the show. Volume 5 is when they go to aventhein the flugels home lol I remember jibril was extremely excited that they finally visit. They went to the library which there was azril in there she is... HARD HEADED AF like imagen facepalming except only your hand is made out of halo's space ships armor nothing else just your hand..that's her. Azril is the first person sora has ever miread about someone's motives which essentially made shiro so damn happy I remember she was sitting down flailing her legs bag and forth bragging that he royally fucked up on completely reading his opponent. She was so excited Because she NEVER saw that happen which if you want to know why the whole story of his fuck up read volume 5 it was from the game of blank just 2 people vs 100 individual flugels in essentially a game of air tag with extra steps involved but at flugels full power through out the entire game speed included. That was a closer defeat than elkia vs werebeasts game. 1 move literally one move they would've lost in that situation that was guaranteed 100%. Volume 7 and 8 are surprising as hell.
My suspicion about the penalities for various heteromorphic races is that they're very limited initially and get worse as the character invests more heavily into the race's class levels. For example, you don't want to make it so a player can't go out in the world during the game's daylight hours. To prevent this, a low level "vampire" character would have no penality in the Sun's light but would also have limited benefits from the resistances and bonus strengths associated with a Vampire or Undead. By the time they've reach ten levels they have significant benefits from their race and few weaknesses. As an example, if you made a human character of the fighter class, you wouldn't have them start out with ANY weaknesses and they would get more powerful as they level up. Since a Heteromorph spends levels on their monster class, they shouldn't start out exceptionally powerful and get crazier as they level up, but rather should start out at about the same power level as any other race and class and get stronger with levels.
It's also possible that the 'True Vampire' advanced race class reduces the weaknesses. Ygdrassil was the kind of game where you could very rapidly max level your character, to the point that supposedly some players would find it quicker to just start over than respec. In that context, base Vampire could in fact have worse drawbacks, because the opportunity cost of taking True Vampire levels to remove the weakness is losing out on those extra levels of your main class, or taking a dip in a side class to round out your build. There would 100% be players who'd just go "I will literally choose never to fight in the daylight in order to optimise my build."

Although the voice actress is the same this season, it seems she's forgotten how she voiced her character. There was a distinctive older charming kind of vibe to her voice in previous seasons, but this season it just sounds like they hired someone last minute and asked them to imitate her voice, but in a child-pretending-to-be-older kinda way
Interestingly enough it makes sense!! Remember these NPCS only technically just learned how to be actually sentient. They had their dislikes/likes and habits created during their creation HOWEVER they could never be programmed to behave and think like an individual! Theyre taking their baby steps in genuine new ground, even if they are super intelligent
Well yeah, before she messed up and disappointed Ainz (concurrently making her appear to be unreliable) she had a haughty air around her. She is a bit more thoughtful and careful concerning her actions; she isn't as confidant as she was before so it makes sense. IT's like her bio essentially conflicting with how she feels after her failure.
She’s changed radically since her resurrection. Between Ainz encouraging her to think for herself and the general disdain from the other floor guardians, she’s become more docile and more thoughtful, and less impulsive.

Another key aspect to Shalltear's effectiveness as a floor guardian and a defender to the Great Tomb of Nazarick is her placement.
Specifically, making her the first guardian.
In Yggdrasil, it was common for guilds to be elaborately trapped and defended, combining a labyrinth of traps with strong NPCs to beat any invaders.
As the first serious threat at the very entrance to the guild base, any invading players that encounter her are very likely to be conservative, reserving their stronger skills and mana for later in the tomb, while also relying on summons and mercenary NPCs to carry them through the early defences of the guild.
This is an incredibly serious mistake, as her blood frenzy would only make her stronger. In the game blood frenzy was a buff that would make her stronger the more blood she was covered in, meaning the longer she was in combat the stronger she would get.
Combined with her blood pool which gave her effectively unlimited mana and her Divine lance which would benefit from her increased strength to provide even more life steal, this made her nearly unstoppable once she gained some momentum.
If invading players tried to fight conservatively when they encountered her this would only enable her to gain some stacks of buffs, and by the time they start to take her seriously and use more powerful skills and magic she has already greatly increased in strength than when she was when they first encountered her.
The most effective method to beat Shalltear is to dump as much power as possible into beating her immediately, before she gets stronger in a battle of attrition. But invaders are likely to be too cautious and hold back, intending to save their strength for later, and ultimately fall into the trap of allowing her to grow stronger.
Once Shalltear has gained momentum and has some stacks of blood pool and blood frenzy, enemy players might realise that she is growing stronger over time, and attempt to one shot her by sacrificing their strongest skills or magic, but she can counter such skills with her impure shield, magic destruction, and resurrection item. This means that she can potentially force players into wasting their trump cards early, and make them greatly expend resources on defeating the first guardian.
Its also unknown whether her Einherjar benefits from her bonus stats when its summoned. It would be pretty busted if a hyper buffed Shalltear could summon a hyper buffed Einherjar. Its also unknown whether or not she resurrects with all her buffs intact, which would be broken as well, but Yggdrasil doesn't seem to be a game that cared for game balance.
This is the first guardian. Even if players defeat her, they will now be wary of this tactic, and are now more willing to expend stronger skills and mana early.
As the next guardian is Gargantua, a literal mountain of a sponge tank that eats damage for breakfast, players are more likely to drain themselves early, making them more vulnerable to later guardians.
The things that constantly impress and disappoint me in this show are how well planned out this guild's entire existence was and how little it's covered in depth.
We really could use a canon game or some source of media that's primarily focused on world-building.

54:56 D&D does have 10th tier spells, even "super tier" ones which would be 11th and 12th ones, which are called Epic Magic. They aren't normally accessed by players but they do exist.
fun fact: 10th and higher level spells used to be accessible to any spell caster of high enough level and were not restricted to "epic" rules. In canon when Karsus tried to steal control of the weave from the goddess of magic, he used a 12th level spell (i think) and it was partially successful but was destroyed with the backlash of the pure power of the weave. When the goddess of magic was reborn, she created "epic rules" to prevent any mage from using magic over 9th level.

Shelltear reminds me of "Claudia". However, Bloodfallen is lacking Claudia's cunning and strategy. Which makes me enjoy watching the Dwarf arc so far. As Shelltear is learning to strategize on different situations. Imagine if "Lestat" would be Shelltear's mentor.
That reminds me of Claudia from arifureta after stories who is the clumsiest and bad luck for 1 girl I have ever seen. She falls down stairs, she could trip over legitimately nothing in her path, she fell over a chair, on the airport she covered her eyes with something to go to sleep then she woke up panicking shouting it's dark! Did something happen! Continuing to panick to the point she completely fell off her reclining chair, constantly gets caught in rotating doors because of her giant cross she carries which is why she falls down stairs and trips over nothing, 1 time already while carrying it she was excited that she did a bonzai pose with it still in hand and pinned her to the floor...again, back seat in a car there they hit a bump her drink goes up and all over her own face. Endo was wondering if her subordinates EVER help her which they replied it's a lot of work and this happens all this happens just in her daily life every single day, their so used to it happening they have stopped helping. She is the almost equal to touma from rail gun in turns of bad luck. Saddest part is she's a exorcist from the church and the cross she always carries around you would think tries to kill her from how much bad luck she has they described it as the God of fortune and a God of bad luck are both in her everyday life. That's the Claudia I had in mind when you said that lol I was like are we talking about the same one? Honestly I was wondering why didn't her subordinates kick her out of being a exorcist if she's that much of problem/liability but turns out she's the strongest. When I thought that a endo pointed at her while looking at her subordinates going ....the strongest? And they said the strongest and RIGHT AFTER that they hear her falling down the stairs again. They both were just sighing I couldn't have agreed more with endo.
That being said, given that and the fact that her Bloody Valkyrie armor does have a bit of a passing resemblance to Dracula’s from the Francis Ford Coppola movie (from when he was still Vlad the Impaler), I have to wonder whether Peroroncino was a massive fan of both and just a huge vampire enthusiast in general.

Shaltear also has a few other Parallels with Remilia Scarlet. Remilia's weapon of choice is the spear Gungnir from norse mythology. It's often depicted as made of energy or crimson metal. Shaltear has both an energy spear and a lance as her weapon. She's also a Valkyrie which is also from norse myth.
Both Shaltear and the touhou project vampires are likely a reference to Claudia from Ann Rice's *Interview With a Vampire* (though not explicitly) as Rice was the one who popularized the small girl vampire trope. I say not explicitly because Claudia acted her actual age and not her physical age. That being a world weary woman in her 60s as opposed to a 7 year old. She knew how to act the part of a lost and scared little girl to lure in her prey, but she was very explicitly not a little girl.
A further reference might be the book Carmella. Or rather, influence. As it is partially responsible for the hyper sexuality of vampires and the abundance of lesbians in vampire stories. (Debatably the furthest root might date back way further to the worship of Dionysus/Bacchus back in the greek and then roman empire.)
(Also, it's an easy mistake to make, but touhou project is a series of games. Not a show. It's a really common mistake since the fanart and full fanimations scream "anime" and not "game" and there is a LOT of fanart.)
55:12 actually in the lore there were wizards that used 10th lvl magic and one 11th lvl which allowed the user to become a literal god for a small period of time, but when it happened the magical backlash from it was so intense that the goddess of magic at the time had to commit suicide to stop it. Or at least that is what I heard.
I believe that incident in dnd is called "Karsus Folly" Karsus was a young prodigy (compared to the standard wizard they who where centuries old he only had a few 100s at the time) and the most prominent wizard at the time and to save his flying city (which was powered by magic) he prepared a spell that could literally control a god and he chose the Godess of Magic. The thing is once he acquired such power since he was just a mortal he didn't knew what to do with it or couldn't handle it and in the end leading to magic as a whole crashing down. (Which meant that the ton of flying cities that the human's lived in came crashing down cause there was no magic to power them) He nearly caused the extinction of humanity. The thing is if he would have chosen any other god it would not have been so disastrous as the one who controlled literally all of the magic in the universe. Mind you this is a universe where magic is a very fundamental component of it.... so yeah he dun goof on a cosmic scale. That's why 11th tier magic is banned by the big daddy of the deities.

Shalltear grows stronger as a Levelboss the deeper you go in the first three leveless. She will ultimately overgrow the enemy and noone ever surpassed her. That is how she has been created, as a taunt to go deeper but inevitably undefeatable. It fits her first appearance, luring and cute but then a monstrous beast, after that - realizing for everyone seeing her true face - an armoured blodknight basically indefeatable and so strong she could even defeat a member of the clan if he would not watch out. Nobody acting as a member could ever overcome her. Which might be the true reason why she has been mind controlled, to test him if he is a true member of the old clan.

I hadn't thought about circumstances through to this degree of minutiae. The coonsideration really does a lot to build on the established knowns of Shalltear's experience, outlook & happenstance. Especially the idea concerning potential buried feelings & desires towards relationships with Supreme Beings. Adding the practised BDSM power dynamic that she uses to interact with others & it dovetails into an especially harrowing self-realization to her: she attacked a Supreme Being (Momonga/Ainz) without any BDSM meaning, only destruction. I'm not sure Shalltear currently has much capacity to handle others outside of a dom or sub role, & certainly not involving a Supreme Being.
This is all on top of undead potentially feeling additional influence from being in the proximity of necromancers, even with necro-attraction. Shalltear is essentially powerful undead made into a type of paladin & designed by a min-maxxer to remove the traditional weakness that keep vampires balanced. And then her worldview was shattered in a way that forgetting cannot heal, & her practised way of finding her feet are kinda lost & unreliable.

I'd love to see Shalltear, Shinobu Heart under blade form, vs Dark Moka to see who's the most powerful Vampire.
I think Shinobu is uniquely suited to be an incredibly dangerous opponent for even the strongest Vampires in fiction. She has absurdly fast regeneration, energy drain that even works on other vampires and a sword that specializes in destroying apparitions that also likely includes vampires. Plus she's very tall, muscular and doesn't even need her heart to survive on top of everything else, additionally; at the end of the Monogatari main series she doesn't seem to be effected by sunlight either which was her last remaining weakness (which failed to kill her anyways in the alternate universe). Koyomi Araragi barely managed to defeat her when she was just a tiny bit serious in a fight and only succeeded because of the abilities he inherited from her and mainly the Energy Drain at that. She can blatantly ignore most rules simply by choice like casting a shadow or appearing in mirrors, oh and she was worshipped as a Goddess for a time too. Shinobu Oshino could possibly stand toe to toe with the Crimson Daddy himself; Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate and likely it would be a coin toss over who wins. Though alternatively those two might enjoy each other's company and if they ever existed in the same timeline would have probably at least heard of each other since they're around the same age.

I think I've watched this a few times over... I really love longer in-depth videos about stuff, and judging that Overlord is one of my favorite animes, this is a must-watch

I especially enjoyed your extreme level of research in both comparing the attributes of Shalltear to game theory, D&D rulings, and the 3 iterations of her (web, light novel, and anime).

These videos are great for playing in the background when I am gaming. They are nice in the sense that I get a deeper look into a character or story that the anime doesn't really offer.

She is probably my favorite character in Overlord based on appearance and theme but I won't lie and say she didn't fall a bit due to the abuse, being someone who's a little familiar with abuse but I understand that it's her race and vampires are generally twisted beings. I do wish she was a little smarter lol. All in all she's still my favorite and you did an amazing job!

Gotta say if videos were this long about every guardian in overlord it'd be amazing esp the deep read about their creators and what traits they might have taken or their secret desires that the guardians somehow gained from their creator. Favourite example is the psyche of how the vampire brides were treated by shalltear and how it might say something deep of perorocino.
Essentially between Albedo and Shalltear you'd have the perfect Woman. ❤
The Valkyrie part somehow reminded me of Flugels from NGNL Zero, such majestic godkillers.

If you guys read the light novel they have a very sad and lonely past. They were created as weapons to serve as their God artosh. Their so used to violence that they don't understand emotions at all hense in the Elkia vs werebeast "is this what humans call love" so their God is dead while every single flugel follows their new leader azril ( not the Pokémon) its jibrils 'sisters' name so right after artosh got killed she ordered all the flugel to kill themselves which they think they HAVE TO follow her orders so they all did until jibril stopped her which a lot did before jibril arrived. Jibril persuaded her if she can return with a new master azril will let all the flugels live. Now when pledges were placed they all lived in aveijheim which is basically on top of a ixseed called phantasma . During the council of the 18 wings Azril made a rule to have everyone share the books which pissed jibril off massively that she moved out and since murder is forbidden flugel collecting books are basically worth their own lives she went to elkia's grand library won and lived there ever since. Before sora and shiro showed up it was somewhere between 2000 - 10,000 years of boredom and loneliness which you can pick up on hense materialize shiritori game jibril wanted them to last as long as possible from how deathly bored out of her mind she was she showed it from the beginning so she didn't want it to end so quickly. No game no life in the show lasted 3 volumes, volume 6 is the entire ngnl zero movie while everything else picks up exactly where it lefts off. 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10,11 are all the show. Volume 5 is when they go to aventhein the flugels home lol I remember jibril was extremely excited that they finally visit. They went to the library which there was azril in there she is... HARD HEADED AF like imagen facepalming except only your hand is made out of halo's space ships armor nothing else just your hand..that's her. Azril is the first person sora has ever miread about someone's motives which essentially made shiro so damn happy I remember she was sitting down flailing her legs bag and forth bragging that he royally fucked up on completely reading his opponent. She was so excited Because she NEVER saw that happen which if you want to know why the whole story of his fuck up read volume 5 it was from the game of blank just 2 people vs 100 individual flugels in essentially a game of air tag with extra steps involved but at flugels full power through out the entire game speed included. That was a closer defeat than elkia vs werebeasts game. 1 move literally one move they would've lost in that situation that was guaranteed 100%. Volume 7 and 8 are surprising as hell.

My suspicion about the penalities for various heteromorphic races is that they're very limited initially and get worse as the character invests more heavily into the race's class levels.
For example, you don't want to make it so a player can't go out in the world during the game's daylight hours. To prevent this, a low level "vampire" character would have no penality in the Sun's light but would also have limited benefits from the resistances and bonus strengths associated with a Vampire or Undead. By the time they've reach ten levels they have significant benefits from their race and few weaknesses.
As an example, if you made a human character of the fighter class, you wouldn't have them start out with ANY weaknesses and they would get more powerful as they level up. Since a Heteromorph spends levels on their monster class, they shouldn't start out exceptionally powerful and get crazier as they level up, but rather should start out at about the same power level as any other race and class and get stronger with levels.
It's also possible that the 'True Vampire' advanced race class reduces the weaknesses. Ygdrassil was the kind of game where you could very rapidly max level your character, to the point that supposedly some players would find it quicker to just start over than respec. In that context, base Vampire could in fact have worse drawbacks, because the opportunity cost of taking True Vampire levels to remove the weakness is losing out on those extra levels of your main class, or taking a dip in a side class to round out your build. There would 100% be players who'd just go "I will literally choose never to fight in the daylight in order to optimise my build."

Although the voice actress is the same this season, it seems she's forgotten how she voiced her character. There was a distinctive older charming kind of vibe to her voice in previous seasons, but this season it just sounds like they hired someone last minute and asked them to imitate her voice, but in a child-pretending-to-be-older kinda way
It could be because of her character shift since that does seem to be the focus of this arc.
Interestingly enough it makes sense!! Remember these NPCS only technically just learned how to be actually sentient. They had their dislikes/likes and habits created during their creation HOWEVER they could never be programmed to behave and think like an individual! Theyre taking their baby steps in genuine new ground, even if they are super intelligent

Well yeah, before she messed up and disappointed Ainz (concurrently making her appear to be unreliable) she had a haughty air around her. She is a bit more thoughtful and careful concerning her actions; she isn't as confidant as she was before so it makes sense. IT's like her bio essentially conflicting with how she feels after her failure.
She’s changed radically since her resurrection. Between Ainz encouraging her to think for herself and the general disdain from the other floor guardians, she’s become more docile and more thoughtful, and less impulsive.

It's kind of crazy but shalltear and Ainz. reminds me of Pinky and the brains she is Pinky full of muscle willpower strength. and Ainz is full of knowledge wisdom and width of his opponent. Stick them to together they're pretty good match Ainz is the brains and shalltear is the brooms. just how Pinky and the brains was when that cartoon was on cartoon Network.
