Hi Cher, for the last example, the one on “Despite no one was hurt…” why can’t the error be in the word “was” and why can’t the correct word be “being”.
That’s a good question. ‘Despite no one being hurt’ is technically grammatically correct but I think it’s not commonly used as it’s usually used like ‘despite’ + gerund (-ing) or noun, without the subject. The use of ‘Although’ shows the direct contrast between no one getting hurt and many shark attacks happening more clearly and maintains the same tense as the entire paragraph (past). Good question! It’s because ‘bamboo’ is considered uncountable here so it cannot have an ‘s’. Keep your questions coming :)
