- Karine Polwart with Steven Powart and Inge Thomson give a lovely rendition of Karine's 'Rivers Run' in an upstairs room before her gig at Farnham Maltings. Another chapter in my folk film 'A Day To Fix My Hedgerow' (see trailer)
I sing this song to my little four month old son. This song brings me comfort when I worry about the future that he will face.
What a lovely song she wrote and they sing it so well. I could listen to it 1000 times and never get tired of it.
I heard that Karine wrote this for one of her children. If you listen closely to the lyrics it becomes clear that it's true. Every time I hear this it brings tears to my eyes. Such beautiful sentiments eloquently put into words & music, wonderful & one truly blessed child.
I came across Karine's music a month ago and since then, I need to listen to her songs everyday, beginning with this beautiful tiny jewel. Music and poetry to be treasured forever...
I wish I could give this a thousand likes.
Saw Karin Polwart as a support act to Seth Lakeman a few years ago at a small gig in Hatfield Forest and I thought she was amazing and still do. This song can bring a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat.
Lyrics for anyone who likes to sing along.
Thank you for making the lyrics readily available. It enhances the listening experience greatly.
I saw you with Nans and Mouts, those two guys coming from France to go to Scotland !! And when you start singing guys... that was so wonderful ! I'm glad they posted your song on their facebook page !! Lot of kisses from France
This song has struck a chord in my soul ... lovely. "I cross my heart and hope to live".
Haven't heard melodies this good in 20 years. Truly amazing.
A first class genuine songwriter. Getting rarer these days.
To my great delight, FOLLOW THE HERON is being played a lot now on my National Radio - RTE RADIO ONE, on Folk and General music programmes, we LOVE great songs!
Quite lovely. I love the natural acoustics of an empty room. When I bought my last house, before the furniture was moved in, I had to have a jam session with some friends.
Superbly written song, beautifully sung and played, with great melody and exquisite vocal harmonies. We live in exciting times, musically speaking... thanks, Karine, Inge and Steven, for your wonderful contributions to creative music.
I was so lucky to see this trio at Wickham festival ♥
It's a finger harp based on the Kalimba or Marimba from Africa. The song and an interview with Karine is featured in my film A Day to Fix My Hedgerow which is viewable also on TH-cam.

great
Perfect hello from Chicago
Yo Chicago!
by the way, what´s the guitar-like instrument Karine is playing? It's got only four strings, but's nothing to do with a Venezuelan 'cuatro'...
Wow! Its been up for ten years and I never noticed that its a four-stringed thing!! A question for Karine I think!!
@@goodmart22 haha! ;) is there a way of asking her?
It's a tenor guitar. Here is made by Martin, I think......
@@pauljenkins2501 Exactly right and tenor guitars are really quite popular on the "folk scene" as are their slightly smaller cousins the baritone Ukulele. Kate Rusby's band usually features at least one or two Martin 4 string tenor guitars.
Completely random question guys but whats the name of the instrument the girl on the far right of screen is playing?
It's a finger harp based on the African Marimba or Kalimba (as I understand)!
Martin Goodsmith Cool, Thanks for the reply. Always wondered what they were called.
@@goodmart22 it is called a mbira
Isn't she, though! mmmmmmmmmm!
slip jig?
What tuning is Karine using, does anyone know?
Nu et culottés 2023 👍
