Hip Hop’s Obsession with BLOODS: How they became a trending Phenomenon.

- The documentary "Bloods and Hip Hop: A Cultural Influence" delves into the profound impact of the Bloods street gang on the development of hip hop music and its integration within the wider hip hop culture. By tracing the historical trajectory and examining the intertwining of these two distinct elements, the film sheds light on how the Bloods not only influenced the lyrical content and aesthetics of the genre but also became a symbol and fad within the hip hop community.
The documentary begins by providing an overview of the origins and rise of the Bloods as a prominent street gang in Los Angeles during the 1970s. It explores the socio-political context of the time, delving into the economic disparities, racial tensions, and gang rivalries that shaped their formation. Through interviews with former and current Bloods members, the film captures the personal stories and experiences that led many individuals to join the gang.
Moving forward, the documentary examines the emergence of hip hop as a cultural movement in the 1980s, focusing on its roots in marginalized communities and its role as a means of artistic expression and social commentary. It explores how hip hop artists, who often came from the same neighborhoods as the Bloods, drew inspiration from their environment and experiences, incorporating gang-related themes into their music.

@@i-95southfloridaboy55 Facts! I remember that era like no other.
No Sir… No Sir….The Movie Colors introduced LA Gang Culture to the rest of the US. I think that was in 1987. In NYC we laughed at it and thought beefing with the next man over a Color he was wearing or affiliated with was DUMB. Then Ice T, NWA, Cube, Quick, and Snoop got us even more acclimated to their scene. THEN Tupac linking about with Suge really glamorize the life style even more.
Growing up in the NYC. The Vietnam Vets used to refers to us kids as Young Bloods or Bloods. And we also used to refer to out Blood Cousins as “Cuz” or “Cuzzo”
If you think about-it both are terms of endearment that basically means family.
And while in the 1980s we laughed at LA Gangs. By the 2000s NYC is full of Bloods and Crips, we even adopted Chicago Gangs Culture too.
AND that’s why NYC is no longer on top. We evolved from the gangs of the 50s, 60s and 70s and Became Gods and Earths , Hebrew Israelites, Moors, Ansars, Zulu Nation. All “Knowledge of Self”Based Cultures
Now in NYC it’s Triple Stage Darkness (Blind, Deaf and Dumb) like every where else.
Bloods and crips been in New York since early 90s homie you must be young shit got glamorized by the mid 2000s and in Little Rock Arkansas they been on that shit since the 80s and Jersey even had bloods form Inglewood establishing sets the first mainstream rappers to holla they affiliation was dj quik then Jim jones then game but dip set made it popular on the east coast especially after game co-signed Jim with the certified gangsta video in cali even the hey ma video had Spanish dude on crutches throwing it up in red flags and that was late 01 early 02
A old homie from Compton told me the dude who’s credited with starting UBN in Rikers Island was originally from Westside Piru in Compton… can anyone from NYC confirm where that dude is from because I always thought he was a NY nGGa
@@Guttagangboosie102 Peace Family, there a few stories about how who actually got The Bloods started in the NYC the only thing most people who was there agree on was (like you said) that it happened in Rikers. There are all types of OG NY Bloods on TH-cam given their historical recollections.
It goes a lot deeper in the rabbit hole brotha, this deals with the occult (hidden culture) of our ancestors. It’s a spiritual warfare going on in the innerworld

Without giving my age this whole Blood thing is pretty new outside of the Bloods and Crips album. The industry used to be Crip heavy from Ceos to rappers and producers. Dj Quick was a lone wolf in the industry. Damm near All of the early West Coast rap pioneers was Cripping or Crip affiliated just ask Eazy E, Mc Ren, King Tee, WC, etc.

Thats because crips have historically been the larger gang, so it should be expected that they are represented more.
DJ Quik was the predecessor of Bangin' On Wax. Ironically, he was only trying to get the attention of Compton's Most Wanted & ended up starting the whole trend. Even on Bangin' On Wax 2: The Saga Continues, Batman from The Mad Swans called out for DJ Quik to represent, "And DJ Quik I took your beat & now I'm looking for you/What's up, to the Bloods & the Pirus"

Growing up in the 90's, the West Coast gangs definitely had influence on gang culture across the United States. In my city there was a gang called the Ace Of Spades who aligned with the Crips. They were assholes and one of the largest sets in the city. Due to this, a small group of guys started up a gang called South Side Bloods to combat AOS. SSB was always outnumbered but they still stood their ground. To be a Blood in the 90's meant you had balls.
Lol...This topic been bothering me for years . Dope vid🔥

Them was dangerous times🙄
Bloods started flooding streets in 96 in NY. The Jim Jones shot didn’t come out until like 8 years later. First rappers on that blood shit in NY was Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq
Hip Hop has its orgin in gang life going back to the 1970s in new york ,The Black Spades were very instrumental in the beginning stages of hip hop along with other 70s gangs so cali gangs being tied to hip hop is an example of history repeating its self
But New York was pumping out drama like LA. Both areas get busy but it was a real Jungle out west.
East had a conscious movement all thru the 80s and 90s. LA had 200 thousand killers on stand by from Mexican to Asian to black and white.
A killers paradise!
It’s not even close at all.
That gang culture goes way back fam to the white immigrants from Europe, they came over on ships banging ..most of us came on slave ships in chains

I’m a little younger than most in the comments apparently, I grew up in the early-mid 2000s when the blood influence was going crazy. I’m from a city full of nothing but Bloods and Crips, and when I was growing up everybody had red flags throwing up Bs, the crips became the underdog. It’s odd hearing the origin stories where the bloods were the underdogs cause my entire upbringing it was flipped. Shits wild how music has such an impact on the world

PAC was wearing Red Bandanas way before he was on Death RoW and was doing wild things way before Death RoW
Pac wasn't claiming shit UNTIL he got with death row though. He was wearing red AND blue rags before that. You left out that part.
I love how folks talk about Wayne wearing blue before he started repping blood lol it’s hard for gangs to get a stronghold in the south because of how it’s set up down here historically. If it’s not a major city fr fr most affiliations are fractured
That's bullshit they been having bloods crips Latin kings gds and more on Louisiana before lil Wayne came out they even started north of the boot along time ago
We only had Latin Kings in New Orleans. There are no Bloods,Crips,Gds or VLS in South Louisiana. Only Shrevport had Bloods and Crips in Louisiana. @@kenpachiitachi8409
Colors never meant anything to us in New olreans. Yall read to much into them old CMR videos. It became a thing for baby and Wayne 20 years ago after they left the city.
Lol@hard for gangs to have a stronghold in the south...just say new Orleans not the entire south it's complete documentaries out there with dudes claiming to have them since 80s
and btw .. as far as Chris Brown goes .. he been fkn with the Fruits since he was 15 .. and i know that for a fact because it was my cousin Bobby Luv, who is from Fruit Town Piru, that put him on .. Bobby is also a longtime writer for Breezy as well .. 💯
Lmao man as for New Orleans goes , we never had none of that. Only Latin Kings and them Latin Kings were mostly on the West Bank or in Kenner not exactly in the city. We wore every color headband and rag because California street politics got no play in New Orleans. They never claimed blue because their biggest rival at the time wasn't P, it was Chucc of Big Boy records ( Mystikal,G-Slimm,PNC,Tim Smooth,Ghetto Twins etc) and he was a Crip from California that moved to New Orleans to do music. So that theory goes out of that window. Also,B.G dissed Big Boy records and Mystikal for being Crip affiliates on the song True story. Baby and Wayne claimed Bloods not because of Mack 10 20 years ago after they left the city. Straight like dat. Signed a New Orleans nicca.
11/23/93 Snoop dropped Doggystyle. My favorite rapper. Heavily influenced me. Lol had me all intranced wearing hella blue through k-12

DJ Quik hit the scene with his underground tapes before the 'Bangin on Wax' album. My bro Monte from Fruit Town Piru brought one of em to Job Corps in '89 then the 'Quik is the Name' album dropped in January '91. So yeah both were before 'Bangin on Wax' and Quik was bangin Blood for sho.
