You written first equation wrong itself. How E_0 is a vector? Please correct it.
Two things.. None of these exams are hard to ace.. They used to be but not anymore.. Further, during interviews, it is best to leave the choice of “favorite area” to the interviewer..

I had also appeared for PhD in Engineering interview., Their mainly focus on master research topic and your basics
I thought polarization and direction of propagation are different.. and that polarization is given by the direction of the amplitude vec{E}_0. It probably has nothing to do with the phase.. kx . X gives a wave propagating in the x direction. However the wave can be polarized in the y-direction if vec{E}_0= E0 vec{y}.. But I may be wrong..

Great Video... A great help for all PhD aspirants. I had a doubt. In E(r,t) the direction of electric field is specified by vector Eo. So it should represent plane polarised wave I think. It is true that E(x,t), E(y,t) and E(z,t) could satisfy the wave eqn simultaneously but the combination will still be plane polarized I think. Please do look into it and reply.
@@subhamoy170 I think it is the superposition of diffrent plane waves having different frequencies and diffrent propogation directions. I am not very sure about this. But this is what I think.
@@subhamoy170 but the direction of electric field will be specified in E(r,t) rgt. So I am not kind of getting how could it represent unpolarised light as vector Eo specifies the direction of electric field. I am kind of trying to clarify my concept.

@@subhamoy170 Yes thatss right. In the expression E(r,t) it is in the direction of Eo. Isn't it ??? So cant we say it is polarised in the direction of Eo. That is my confusion altogether.

Will the interview based on only one paper in physics or they can ask anything in physics because I want to do my PhD in condensed matter physics whether I have to prepare for condensed matter physics or for all papers
U should prepare solid state physics very well as well as at least one core topic like emt, qm, cm, thermo and stat, electronics.

They ask u from basics, like classical, emt, quantum, electronics. So be prepare for it, clear the basic concepts. Prepare one of the experiment u have done in ur bsc. If u know programming, then have a look on that. All d best
