On May 8th, 2023. An officer pulled in a Wawa gas station because he had to use the bathroom. On his way back, he noticed a car that was tinted up & proceeded to observe the vehicle. (Please note, the couple did not commit any traffic offence as they were parked at a gas station). When the officer was walking around observing the vehicle, the woman got out and started yelling at the officers. This is the body-cam footage of the events that followed.

I’m a 35-year-old black man from Detroit. I was pulled over a few nights ago at about 3 AM in a predominantly white neighborhood. I roll down my windows turn my dome light on and handed the police officer my concealed carry permit my drivers license, my registration and insurance, they didn’t have to ask 10 minutes later. The cop came back to my window and let me off with the warning and said have a great night.

As a black person, I have nothing to hide. My car is fully insured and registered. I work my ass off and know I do not commit crimes. If an officer walks over to me and ask me for my information, I’m just going to give it to them instead of giving them a reason to charge me with resisting or obstruction. I have too much to lose. I’m a black man also,this is a tricky situation. If I’m legally stopped I understand that I have to provide all documents like any other American. There’s now way if I’m just walking down the street and the police just randomly decide to Id me with no reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime that I’ve committed I’m not giving up id. Sometimes yep it’s just easier to just give up the id and have your rights violated.

I'm an elderly white woman from Alabama, and this type of behavior breaks my heart. I wish they could see how they are only hurting themselves (and in this instance, their child) when they behave this way. It's like I have this strong urge to help them understand, but we both know that will never happen, especially coming from an elderly white woman from Alabama. 😢

I got pulled over as a black man leaving my job 9 pm. I got pulled over they stopped me because I didnt have my headlights turned on. Asked me the usual questions. Ran my Id and I was on my way. You may get a ticket, but to explode like this over a stop is insane.

I was pulled over by police and guess what he checked my ID, told me my tint wasn't above legal limit have a great day 😊 What happened here was their ego making this situation worse. I'm Hispanic I've been pulled over by PD over the years and just did as I was told present my DL insurance etc only once got a ticket the other times were warnings and one of those times I had an open container he just dumped it out and said go home and drink it. I treated them with respect and they did the same it's not so difficult.

I am alive to tell the tale by listening to the instructions of the officers and not being belligerent or disrespectful. In my opinion it is both Police officers and Couples fault cause this mess.. For Police officers they should tell them why they appoarch them in first place..... even that black girl noticed it... I’m a 33 year old black woman from Florida. I was pulled over a few mornings ago around 645 am for speeding while running late for work. I was wrong and was doing about 60 ish on a 35 mph street. I drive a Camaro with very dark tints. Cop pulled me over.. I put down both my windows.. turned car off with hands on the wheel. About 4 mins later the cop let me go. He was pretty upset and said some things that made me feel shameful however it didn’t turn into “something”. No ticket.. just a slap on the wrist verbal warning.

What was the reason for the stop? Was it a traffic stop? I don't even see a police vehicle with lights on until halfway through. Were they pulled over? Or did they just walk up and try to ID minus a crime? I will say the police were somewhat patient. But minus a crime and no traffic stop, no need to identify, especially passengers. Failure to ID and resisting are secondary charges. There are no stop and ID states. But I could be missing something because the video doesn't show what happened prior.

Do you not understand window tint laws? Each state has laws, and they can pull you over if it LOOKS too dark - which is the reason for the initial stop. It happens. If one doesn’t comply and escalates the situation, that’s not on the police. That’s on them. If the police walk up to their window and smells weed or thinks that the person driving looks intoxicated, they’re also within their rights via probable cause to request they get out to either search the vehicle or have them do field sobriety tests even if the initial stop was over something else. That’s how all of this works.
I’ve been stopped for this very thing before in VA for my back glass being too dark while traveling back home from vacation, even though it’s within the legal limit for my state. I didn’t act out. Didn’t start yelling. Didn’t get all emotional over it like a child, ready to throw hands and sperging. Just rolled my window down, talked to them, they tested my back glass, told me it was too dark but to be careful if I plan to travel in my vehicle within the state, and sent me on my way. Almost as if you show you’ve been raised with common sense and are cordial, things go a lot smoother - something the people in this video should’ve done.

If they see violations, whether at a gas station or not, they have a right to investigate as the lawful authority on our streets. If the police see suspicious activity, they have a right to investigate as well. The best we can do as civilians is to comply with lawful commands from law enforcement. When the officer saw a violation, they asked for the driver's license, and other lawful documents. These are documents that every person operating a vehicle must have while driving, whether temporarily parked at a gas station or not.
