    Hey Mike! Great video! I am continually amazed by how folks in rural America will still band together to help out a neighbor in need! Anyway I know how unloading hay goes. Whenever it arrives you just gotta drop everything your doing and go unload it and keep the trucks rolling so that you can do it all over again.

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats for sure, I always hope the drivers will call when they are a half an hour out but that rarely happens. lol Thanks Jay - Mike

      Yeah Mike I've learned whether it be hay or cattle, trucker time is +/- 4 hours. When will you guys be preg checking? I know you guys will get rid of your opens but do u get rid of any broken mouth, late, or any other pregnant cows?

  • @CC-xk6cp

    Hi again! Mike i know all about the hay thing up and down and everything in between! Being a newbie here I'm learning how you folks roll. I have great compassion and understanding and your caring and thankfulness touches my heart. I will be happy and honored to help coming in a bit. You're doing a great job so keep all the hopes and dreams in sight! A blessing to have found my kind of folks out there in God's country living the life that lives in my heart too
    Blessings back new friends!

    I'm glad this years hay is coming together for you. I sure miss back in the day, when my parents would load us up for a "work-cation" as they called it. We would leave the city and head 130miles north to the farm I would one day run until grandpa was diagnosed with dementia. Us boys would help grandpa make hay, usually doing the stacking. The girls spent their time in the garden with grandma, then moving into the kitchen for canning. When the week was over the barn was usually full of small square bales, and the cellar shelves restocked. At the end of our stay we left with enough canned vegetables to last a winter, kind of... and grandpa had enough hay for half a winter to feed the animals, so in the spring we could stick our freezer with fresh meat.
    I miss those days, I would love to some day find a farm or ranch job. Maybe for a week, put the camper in the truck and travel to help on a farm or ranch in another area, learn different farming techniques.
    Thanks for sharing Mike & Erin, your videos are always the highlight on my day.

I retired from a 30 year police career and have steered to develop 80 acres of family homestead land in Hill County, Texas that we were able to buy back. Great vid Mike. If you're ever wondering why your channel is successful and you have the support of good people, it's because you're real and honest. You show in your videos what you really do. You don't try to sensationalize it and add all kinds of false drama. It's obvious to anyone who watches your videos that you and Erin are good people. You work hard, do the right thing, and are raising up some great kids. The first time I watched one of your vids, I knew your channel would explode. That was before 10K subs and now you're over 40K. I would certainly talk to a couple places and maybe contact the university to check on fertilizer cost and get recommendations.

      Thanks Al, we have fertilized in the past, funny thing cause the university has actually done classes on our ranch. Last time we kinda got burned on fertilizing though because we didnt get any spring rain that amounted to anything and ended up buying all our hay. thanks a bunch, I'm sure we will be back in touch with them - Mike

    Hey mike great video. I watched your vid on the four different types of hay the cows tested. I feed 450 head every day from about dec 15 through april 15. As you know cows are funny when it comes to feed. They will skip over grass one day to eat alfalfa and then eat oat hay over alfalfa the next. We are lucky to have a large varity to feed from but the bottom line is it all costs money and a cows gotta eat. Thank you for giving the world a glimpse into day to day on a ranch. A wise mam once told me that there are much easier ways to go broke in life then ranching, but not many as rewarding. Keep at it. You guys are awesome.

      Thank you very much for the kind words. Cows are goofy at feeding time. I think they follow the leader lol. -Mike

      Thats how it usually works, if its not spent on hay it will go somewhere else pretty quick. Thanks - Mike

    Gosh that is nice looking hay. We have to cover hay here in Kentucky and even then humidity can wreak havoc on hay. You may curse your dry country at times but it is great for hay storage👍🏼 Keep safe and well.

    Love , love , love !! Awesome video just like always. Mike I’m sorry you guys have to pay for hay this year. I hope everything works out for you and your wonderful family. Is there any chance you guys could come up with some sort of an idea where a fan of yours could come down and spend some time on the ranch. Wouldn’t that be freakin awesome

    Well it's coming together for you ! It's been a fast season so far! Just watching you and Erin though the year and one can see that it takes a lot if work and you have to be diversified to make it all work out. I visited cousins in another province here in Canada. One has a beef farm and the other one is in dairy. I can see that farming is still a 24 hrs a day ,7days week and 365 days a year endeavor. ( Not a job !!!! No I would never want to call it a job) . I am sure they feel that if you can't be willing to do the time then move on to something else. Most people 99.99% of the population have no idea if the work involved to get through a year or ten as a farmer,but your weekly videos can give them some idea! Good luck!!!!!
