  • This episode of the podcast kicks off a new feature called "Second Look", where we replay selected talks from past Ancestral Health Symposium conferences, that we think will interest you.
    This talk was presented by Todd Becker at the 2014 Ancestral Health Symposium meeting in Berkeley, California. The title is: "Myopia: A Modern Yet Reversible Disease"
    Myopia is also called near-sightedness. It's a refractive defect of the eye, where close up objects are in focus, but more distant objects appear blurred. Glasses or contacts are typically prescribed to correct this condition -- although in reality they don't actually correct the underlying problem. They are just a crutch that aids you in seeing more clearly. And often they just make the underlying problem worse, so stronger lenses are needed.
    Todd wore glasses for my his myopia, starting in high school, and over time the eye doctor kept increasing strength of the prescription... until he discovered how to get rid of them in his forties.
    The first part of talk is about about the increasing incidence and causes of myopia, including the underlying biology of how the eye becomes myopic by increasing in axial length, due to environmental factors such as poor vision hygiene -- spending too much time reading and looking at screens up close.
    The second half of the talk builds on this biological understanding to reverse the process, describing in detail how to use an active focusing technique to reverse myopia and restore normal vision. The method was adapted from research and practices used by others. Todd first wrote about his success and the active focusing approach in 2010, on the blog, GettingStronger.org It's one of many applications of a general biological principle known as hormesis - the judicious application of controlled low-dose stress to make the body and metabolism more resilient in different ways.
    The talk also indicates how the same principles can be used to reverse hyperopia, or far-sightedness, where one has trouble focusing on fine print or objects up close. Something that many people encounter as they get older.
    This talk on Myopia Reversal remains the single most popular recorded talk on our Ancestral Health Society TH-cam channel, with well over a million views and 4000 comments. The comments fall into three main categories:
    A small number are from skeptics who don't believe it is biologically possible to reverse myopia.
    A larger number are from viewers who applied the technique with success, and either reduced their glasses prescription or got rid of their glasses or contact lenses for good.
    And there is another group with questions from those interested in trying the technique but are unsure about certain details. For these people, there is an FAQ post on my blog that answers many of those commonly asked questions.
    Here is a guide to topics discussed in this podcast episode:

    I think the hardest thing about reversing myopia is the lifestyle adjustment. Modern society is predominantly set up for close vision. Modern life is staring at screens, books and papers in rooms for hours rather than looking out into the distance.

    • @RAVETOR
      @RAVETOR 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      People don't change their lifestyle either once they have gotten their first glasses, that's why their myopia gets worse.

      That is why you need to use Plus; there are only two ways to completely fix myopia: spend massive amounts of time outside or push your eyes toward getting farsighted using Plus. If all that close-up on a screen is using plus, you might even get very farsighted to the point where you start having problems reading without glasses like me.
      i start with -1.50 on both eyes; now, Dr., give me reading glasses. At least my distance vision is great now.

    If possible upload better quality video as the slides are blurry even at 1080p, thanks.
    Easy way to reduce myopia. When you get your prescription, ask the optometrist to get you to 20/30 not 20/20. Using -2.00 as an example prescription for 20/20.....
    It should be 0.25 lower example, instead of -2.00, get -1.75.
    For computer use about 3 feet away, use 1 less, ex use -1.00.
    For TV use about 6 feet away you can use an in between -1.50 or use the computer glasses and deal with a little blur. Zenni is a great place to get affordable frames and lenses. I recommend the oleophobic coating with no blue blocking.
    Don't rush it, I've gone down 0.25 every year for a few years.

      @ericsilva7430 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@E.rw1n_77 Minor lenses (distance glasses) induce more myopia.
      Plus, lenses (reading glasses) induce you to become more farsighted and have less myopia.
      Glasses actually make what you are trying to fix get worse, so to fix myopia, using Plus helps. Using minus makes things worse.
      Animal studies show this: plus makes animals go farsighted, and minus makes them go nearsighted. If you remove the lens, animal eyes go back to normal/neutral.
      So reading with Plus is the best way to protect your eyes from myopia. minus is a quick fix that destroys your eyes.

    @nutrition9340 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I think you make an attribution error in thinking that myopia has to do with near-work. We now know that myopia has to do with dopamine. The diet and exercise part you mention at 11:32 is probably the most crucial factor: have you ever seen any student being taught standing? No: they always have to sit, and for long hours, hence the deregulation of insulin. You yourself Todd were able to cure your myopia not because of plus lenses, but because you practice intermittent fasting. In France, a girl called Marie-Camille says she has completely cured her myopia with 4-days fasting and changes in her diet.

      it could be real, since diuretic drugs tend to increase premature presbyooia (maybe by draining fluids also from the eyes), and presbyopia uses to counter act myopia. Fasting has a similar mechanism of removing inflamation from the tissues
