    Any advise of what type of artificial nails we can use , if we have issues with our natural nails ? what type, how to apply, maintain, where to procure or how to be home made and from what materials, etc ? thanks

      You can also play with very short nails

    With a straight arm/hand the hand and the arm muscles are not relaxed. Place you hand and arm in the position he recommends and just let go of your hand to make it drop. Now you are relaxed.

      You are advocating for the Tarrega/early Segovia/early Parkening RH positioning yes? You are now very much in the minority.
      If you simply wiggle your RH fingers in this position and compare how your right wrist feels compared to doing the same with the straight wrist that Mr.Palmer demonstrates, you should notice a feeling of constriction in the dropped wrist position,
      whereas the straight position feels free and easy. Those tendons going through the carpal tunnel don't like being stretched around a corner, then asked to activate the fingers.

    For a start the guitar is far too high up your body, you will get left arm stress as it’s not ‘hanging’ but being kept there by you shoulder and arm muscles. Second, your left hand position is also under stress as you will have to always keep it in that position. The best left hand position is to rotate your hand so that your fingers are further back and your thumb forward, thus way no stress. If you want to see how to do this watch Segovia or Bream, if you follow them you will be able to play for hours and most importantly make a beautiful sound.

      I’m really not sure where this technique comes from, but it’s the reason that so many young guitar players don’t make a very nice sound anymore.

      Segovia’s technique is too old fashioned. Check Vladimir Bobri ‘s book on the Segovia guitar technique. You may prefer other kind of posture but There’s nothing wrong with this guy’s technique in the video…😊

    The position is very relative from person to person, even the nails, i could never play with those long nails. Even the left had for my hands that neck position is completely wrong but again, it's very personal.

      That's right, there are no RULES, maaaaan, everything is just, like, subjective, dude.... "everyone is different!" If I find it more comfortable to put my pinky toe where he puts his thumb, who are you to tell me that's not correct!

      @@NotoriousFunk Speaking of nails, how long do you like to keep yours and what shape do you file them to? I've played electric guitar for a while but I'm just starting on classical and can't find much information on this type of thing. Mostly just people debating whether to play with nails or flesh, but not much about how to use nails and how long they should be, etc.

    • @NotoriousFunk
      @NotoriousFunk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeefRimgarGames I keep them short, the shape is personal and it depend on many things. I've used different shape getting a different sound, without nails you get a dark sound but technically you are limited and with a low volume. On the opposite with long nail you get a bright sound but technically it's more difficult to play. Then it is very personal, I had a mate in conservatory who had very long nails and he could play but he was able to use only the free stroke. In flamenco they mostly use short nails. In the end there are no rules if not what works better for your hands.

    I don't agree. The RH should be hanging naturally and relaxed. If you put your lower arm at the edge of the table, and let your hand hanging, you'll see this natural position. Not the straight line position you suggest. You need to twist it anti clockwise a bit to make it straight line, therefore it's not relaxed. Segovia, Williams, Bream, Yepes all have adopted the position I mentioned. Just look at the photos and videos of them.

    Playing with nail only will produce bad tone. Think about it and do some practise before you continue with your videos.

    • @johnlay3040
      @johnlay3040 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find short nails produce nice tones. With short I mean just enough to be seen above the top of your fingers.

    • @THOUGHTFULCLASSICALGUITAR
      @THOUGHTFULCLASSICALGUITAR หลายเดือนก่อน

      I too have some disagreement with Mr. Palmer's advice on tone production, but using the nail only is the correct approach.
      By planting the nail first (obliquely, yes), then pushing both down and across the (slightly depressed) string before its release the tone can be both clear and full-bodied. This means there will not be follow through up into the palm of the hand, but rather being sensitive to the release of the string and the immediate release of tension in the finger will allow for a short follow through, with the finger remaining very close to playing position.

    • @nebovas9432
      @nebovas9432 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@THOUGHTFULCLASSICALGUITAR Playing note by note is one thing, and playing a composition is another. The problem is that there is no time to push the string down and this will produce a tone that is sometimes good but most of the time very thin. In faster passages we can hear nail only. The shorter the nail, the more consistent your tone will be.
