  • The new Bearhawk Five is equipped with a Lycoming IO-580, rated at 315 HP. Its propeller is an 82" Hartzell Trailblazer 3-blade. Density altitude is 1000 feet. In rough numbers, the takeoff roll was 500 feet at the 3000-pound max gross weight, with a climb rate of 1000 feet per minute. With the weight equivalent of four passengers and half fuel, the climb rate is 1500 feet per minute and the takeoff roll is around 300 feet.
While in flight, notice how the stick position changes fore-aft based on the CG. The two flights were at 3000lb/21.28" and 2219/12.42". The final CG limits of non-prototype aircraft are TBA at the discretion of the designer.
Both takeoffs were flaps 0 and both landings were flaps 3. It could be that the takeoff distance would be shorter with flaps 2, but further testing will be required to verify this.
