Do you have a link to the motherboard schematic and jumper configurations? I have a Legend 22CD that I suspect is very similar and I'm having trouble getting it to post with the CD Drive plugged in so I'd like to check that out, or heard any suggestions. Great video! The battery saved my build as well!

Do you still have the Packard Bell Multimedia Master CD for this PC? (Or any of the legend series for that matter?)

I bought a PB Legend P75 in 1995 and it was painfully slow and expensive and missing onboard cache. I don't remember specifically but I think I upgraded to the P133 which is the fastest Pentium the PB600 board will take because of the few multiplier options available. I was poor and in college and finally got an AMD 800Mhz Thunderbird in 1999, rusting in my basement at the moment. I wish I still had the PB though, just to verify what I upgraded it to, but it was such a disappointment I was probably eager to toss it in the trash.

Actually removing the battery and having the results you have are not weird. Since your motherboard battery
is dead and I am assuming that you are removing power as you make your adjustments, it is the
same as clearing the bios and it needs to do a reset. Same as removing the jumper or pulling the battery
on some motherboards. It might be nice to save that original copy of the Packard Bell software that is on
the computer with a diskcopy to an old hard disk so that in case you ever sell the computer you can turn it
over with a copy of the original software. Aloha from Maui

46:33 So that explains why I thought they only used that thing to log on to AOL and print stuff using their Canon bubble-jet printer.

Which side is positive and which negative for that replacement battery you installed? I need to do the same thing and the board is not marked.

Hello there, i am trying to restore the same machine with PB450 Motherboard and i have the same issue with CMOS battery being dead. I was wondering where i can get a similar battery stuff as yours, because i am not really good at electronics. I have tried a system with a external CR 2032 lithium holder and using raspeberry female cable to connect to the motherboard but it does not work and i am a bit out of idea. Usually MB boots fine without battery but this one for some reason Hard Drive settings are not saved no matter i did not stop the PC.

if that CD-ROM is a CR-563-B connect it to the sound card and the cd-rom will work. But make sure that the CD-ROM you are using on the IDE 2nd channel, make sure it is a IDE CD-ROM. That PB450+ motherboard will not save the bios information without a battery.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I noticed that on eBay those Quantum Pioneer hard drives go for $60-$70 for the 2.1GB version. I think it's a bit of a rarity

I think it's a VGA to HDMI adapter and an AVerMedia device of some kind.

Lets see if this particular packard bell computer is worth it to restore. aka a nec japanese computer that they bought or made the american / european packard bell.

so anyway billy are you going replace that lcd monitor soon?

    • @techfury90
      @techfury90 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Predates the NEC merger. This was the first PC my folks had at home.
I'm also not sure why people seem to think post-NEC merger machines are loaded with NEC DNA either: they are *nothing* like my Japanese-market NEC 98MATE X from 1995, either, which is actually built shockingly well.

Yeah, if you have zero soldering skills, it's a good decision to keep away from soldering on things of value.
