you know, its weird, but I think this budget warboss turned out as one of the best ones yet. The base may have been cheap, but it was decently dynamic, and not a pose I'd seen a warboss in yet, and it gave him a much different feel than most warbosses I see.
I've been a huge fan of orks for a while now and with the range refresh they are getting I'm seriously thinking of jumpin gon the bandwagon and starting my first ork army. But I do want to kitbash and make the army my own. All your conversions are super inspiring and really motivates me to take the plunge. Basically I just wanted to say thanks :)
As much as I like the massive and beastly orks you’ve done before this may be the best one, simply because it’s cheap very easy and roughly the right size to be used as a normal ork warboss
Plus this is in the spirit of the Orks! They don't get premade prepackaged things, not like a guard tank or flak armour from the factory, they got to cobble together what they can to make their big armour! I love this, i want to make something now!
I always love these Orky convertions. They are the main reason why I subscribed, and make me eager to try my own hand at it. I wondered, would you be able to make a larger boy or boss without the bionics, power packs, power claws, leg harnesses, armor or other cyber bits that replace much of the natural Work? A Snakebites warboss perhaps
That's a really nice idea. Challenges that force oneself to go outside one's normal modus operandi can be quite stimulating and rewarding. How about a conversion based on in some manner randomly chosen bits?
Cool conversion! But can you prime the model in the end? I would be interesting to see them tied together. Maybe with a central highlight. Than you can see how great your conversion work really is. Just one further step and your videos would be perfect.
That's 'Jaagrath Kreeg'#46 from the 'Pathfinder Battles, Rise of the Runelords'-Range. Might be easier to get one of the standard ogres in the UK, they are a bit less dynamic, sadly.
Budget warboss is the best warboss because it really leans into the Ork concept of since their stuff is made out of scrap metal and random bits and bobs there's literally no uniformity
While I really enjoy your vids, I feel like, and I know you don't paint, that the models would greatly benefit from at least a layer of primer and some basecoat + drybrush, to tie everything together. Like the color of the OG miniature shining through, green globs of greenstuff, especially on "metal" surfaces like the claws, white plastic card that extend the grey chest armor despite being different colors on the "same" piece. Same can be said for shin guards made of GS combined with regular grey plastic, which just really "bothers" me. It's nice to see what you're doing, and how creative you get, but I can hardly see the end result before my eyes. Sorry rant over. Anyway, keep on doing your stuff, enjoyable regardless.
I have an idea. Tau warboss. Hear me out... A warboss who already leans more towards shootahs than choppahs hears that "da blueskinz gotz da best dakka" and sets off to acquire some. I'm picturing the armor being made out of a looted battlesuit, with huge over the shoulder cannons, cobbled together to wrap around his hulking frame. Maybe instead of a normal powerklaw, he's just got a giant fuck off cleaver sword in mockery of his favorite foe. Alternatively, ork inspired Tau. Though I got no idea what that would look like. Just regular Tau but with four times the guns?
theres an fourth option, buy the warboss that come with the pack of Ork Warboss Grukk's Boss Mob, is the same warboss they release as a commander in kill team and is amazing
"I want to make a cheap Warboss that anyone can make" $5 more than the stock GW Warboss, not including all the shipping of parts, finding a specific cheap base model and the first part is a resin cast head.... I like the model (aside from having a gun barrel touching the back of his hand) but you didn't really nail your goals. My first attempt at a cheap Warboss was extending the proportions and bulking out a standard nob. Maybe start there next time?
That's actually a really good point, shipping is kinda important for the American crowd, since most bit sellers are located in Europe. So I suppose he didn't do that well when it came to cost effectiveness... model looks great tho.
@@themageofcontext7071 I think his point was, that Kitbosh set out to make a cheaper Warboss and failed, which is technically true, even if the model still looks great!
but if it's €18 just for the materials used, then you'd have to factor in the amount of time you spent building the whole model. You haven't said how much time it took to build it, but between choosing the right pieces, putting the green stuff on and waiting for it to solidify, and the overall assemblage, I'd wager that it took you at least an entire morning, or 3-4 hours. Assuming a €10/h, which is sort of a minimum wage, then you'd have to add other €30 euros to the model, which would make very, very expensive. Of course, if we're treating it like a full job, then you'd be making way more than just a single a model in that amount of time, but that's not really my point. Rather, regardless of you building it for a hobby, you're still selling it at a net loss for yourself, because you didn't give any value to the time and the mental work you yourself put in the model. Which is a shame, because it's clear that you're very talented. Now, if I had a friend who built models from scratch for a hobby, and would be willing to make one for me, as long as I payed the raw materials, then it'd be great. But I can watch this and say "screw the companies that are overcosted". Ok in part they are, but they also have to pay the employees, and at that point at least €5 euros on top of the components' base cost would be more than fair. Sorry for the long posts, but just to try and be clearer, where a company might put to high a price, thus overvaluing the "human labour" aspect, you're doing the exact opposite, by not giving a value at all to your own work.
Minor nitpick, but I think it would have looked better with the axe facing the other way. right now he looks like he just completed a swing, but the other way he would be starting his full-out attack
What, with the axe head pointing towards himself? Imagine holding an axe with the edge towards you and then striking someone... its an incredibly awkward motion... you are wrong
I think you're misunderstanding what I meant... Currently the axe head is pointing to his back right in his right hand I'm only saying the head itself (and only the head as it was attached to the shaft) should be rotated 180 degrees so it points to his front left, which would make it point to his target in front of him instead
Or, you know, 3d print it and screw it. Because honestly, when a company gives you the middle finger you should remember you got one of those as well. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET, there is no improvement without competition.

He also finely started pinning his weapons... I'm so proud of him!
A cheap warboss? Now that's an interesting challenge!
All in all a good job, I never thought of using D&D minis...
I'd like to see more of these budget conversions in future, makes them more achievable for viewers and makes an interesting challenge
Using cheap toys as basis for conversions is always great!

@@JojoJohnie It is a good time for it.
The pose of the ogre with the parrallel feet is so goofy and unnatural - great conversion
The base mini you chose here did so much work to elevate the final boss to a striking pose
While I'm not always the biggest fan of your human models, I always love your Orks. This one was great, might even get me to start an Ork army.
the iron fist, from the ogres, could have been the middle lower talon of a powerclaw
As much as I like the massive and beastly orks you’ve done before this may be the best one, simply because it’s cheap very easy and roughly the right size to be used as a normal ork warboss
This is one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve watched on TH-cam, very quality and cool (:

Always inspirational - keep them coming!
Ork vehicles = toy tractors and diggers
The most budget Warboss is the one I print using like $3 of resin
Keep in mind - did you also include the software to 3d sculpt it or the cost of the file?
@@themageofcontext7071 Blender is free. The printer was a gift. :)
Can you link the website where you got the stl file?

Solid video, really shows that a bunch of simpler steps can lead to an amazing and complex looking conversion.
Now get him painted!
But... to get all these parts I need to buy loads of different kits... I'm too budget for even this...
I'm more into scratch building but you're starting to make me want to try kit bashing now so well done! Great build.
Great mini my friend
Its not a proper Orky shoulder spike if it can't draw blood when you grab it from the wrong angle XD

All those bases he uses normally are either 80 or $100+ here in aus.. I wanna build some warbosses but it’s so much

Would be nice if you spray the end result in a simple grey primer coat. That way all the details and your design work comes into it´s own.
I love your conversions. Always super practical, but they look way, way better than the GW base models.
Hey was just wondering, but how do you go about finding these obscure models that you use as a base? Was it just something you found randomly on eBay?
Any tips on where to get a hold of that base miniature in the UK? Haven’t had much luck searching for “DND Ogre”

here's another thought, maybe you could buy a really cheap hulk figure or something too as a base
Can we see you paint this model
