    Thanks for the video. I've got a Y38 out of a 2022 GT86 with only 875 miles on it I bought a year ago and still need to install in my IS250. Your video is very helpful to those of us facing this challenge.
    One note - you don't need LSD additives or lubes that contain them for this differential. LSD additive is designed to provide an appropriate coefficient of friction for LSDs that use plate-and-clutch style mechanisms. The Y38 uses a Torsen helical-gear design to which LSD additives are not relevant. My research indicated Redline 75-85w lubricant is optimal for this unit. The LSD style fluid will not harm your differential, but if the LSD action is not to your liking consider replacing it with a quality non-LSD fluid such as the Redline.
    The factory recommendation for GT86/BRZ differentials from the manual reads "Differential Gear Oil LX" or "Other gear oil that meets API GL-5 SAE 75W-85 or GL-5 SAE 75W90 specifications". No mention of selecting a lube containing a LSD additive when deviating from the factory LX fluid, which is 75-85W.
    Thanks again for documenting your work, and I look forward to your axle rebuild video. I hope not to damage my boots but they do have ~128,000 miles on them and are 15 years old, so I'd probably be smart to replace them anyway.

      Yea. It also fits the 3rd gen 250. Though the ratio is high. 2IS is 3.9 like first gen. But 3IS is 3.7 so those rpm’s will be high on highway.

    Great video about the installation!! Seeing not a spec of rust and how clean the diff mount bolts were shocking too!! How the axles fought you for a few hours when the car is already that clean, a high mileage warrior from a state that uses salt would guarantee use of a torch, swearing and make this take up a day and night getting the bolts loose

    Man! I’ve had this diff and the Toyota fluid sitting in my garage for years and never got around to getting it installed haha. Give me an honest opinion, is it worth it? I’ve read everything there is to it prior to purchasing back in 2019😂 I know it lowers mpg a bit and your cruising rpms are raised by a few hundred RPMs. I know cornering is better and acceleration is a tad bit better but do you think it’s worth it? I have air suspension so that’s why it’s been on the back burner. I don’t really want anyone messing with my control arms or Air Bags😅

      Toyota says LX for all their LSD diffs. That’s the $80/quart stuff. Regular diffs call for LT which is still $50/quart. Screw all that, $18/quart Valvoline is good for me.

    good video! in relations of removing the drive side axle, couldnt you have used a long extension and tap it out it from the other end of the rear diff?
    if you do a rear diff swap on the 1st gen is300, its best just to drop the rear sub frame haha. its much easier that way.

    • @TunerwithKids
      @TunerwithKids  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a bar blocking the hole thru. The axle stubs on the 1st gen make it much easier. But the lack of access for the Allen bolts is the pain on the is300.
