The "P" model refers to an original inside form by Stradivari, which is kept here in Cremona at the Violin Museum together with all the other forms he used to build all his violins (such as the "G" form, the "PG" form, the"S" form, and many others). The inside form is the heart of the ancient Cremonese construction method, and is the part on which the ribs garland is made, and which creates the outline of the violin (shown in the video here: th-cam.com/video/3zBs7qRq0cc/w-d-xo.html ). The letter "P" probably stands for "Prima" (first), and is the longest-lived form of Stradivari, which he used throughout his career and with which he made a huge number of violins, since the years before 1700, throughout the golden period and up to the last years of its activity. I don't copy any particular violin, I have copied the original forms (P, PG, and G) on which I make my personal violins. But in this way, I could say that a bit of the soul of all the Stradivari violins is present in my violins, a sort of tribute to the Old Master🙂
Gracias por compartir y por mantener sus “secretos” de luthier abiertamente disponible en TH-cam. Un gran regalo para todos que de una forma u otra nos interesa éste campo.
this is how a violin should sound ! almost as close to a human voice ! wished i could hear more of the D and E strings too..Davide, how old was the wood chosen for this violin (not that it matters much..but for curiosity sake)? i am just in awe ! bravo maestro ! what is the plastic sort of piece on the treble side C bout?
Thanks! Regarding the wood, I bought the maple for the back in June 2001, and the spruce for the top in October 2006. They were probably two or three years old already, but I only count how long they have been in my possession, just to be safe🙂. The black plastic is a protection that Sokhema (the player) had brought. I would have let her play even without the protection, but I was so struck by her very respectful attitude towards my violin that I did not object.😊
