Awesome experiment! I went and tested it just now, it worked great. Thanks for watching and giving suggestions.
ha thanks for watching out. We were giving the trick at the end as a different way to do the experiment. So you would use a different balloon which has not been tied off yet:) Thanks again for giving us feedback, we appreciate it.
Air pressure didn't allow the balloon to expand but with the hole the air in the bottle then escaped allowing the balloon to expand. :)
Episode 100 is what you want to check out!
That's really awesome. How did you end up proving the air was inside the bottle?
The pressure inside the bottle without the hole is the same as if you'd try to blow into an empty bottle. That pressure is compromised when any part of it's structure is taken away, like putting a hole in the bottom. The air pressure in a softer, more forgiving environment, like the balloon, allows for a lot more air to enter. While the air is in the balloon and the top & bottom are sealed, the air in the balloon can't escape and the pressure of the bottle is intact.
This is a very good "air pressure / displacement" lesson.
Nicely done!
Haha that is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
I love these kind of experiment. It's simple but yet it makes you think
It's the air pressure differential. Inside the bottle you have atmosphere pressure, that is far greater from what your mouth can produce. So, you can't blow the ballon. However, when you make the whole, that air is able to escape and thus you can blow the balloon by pushing the air inside the bottle out. As for the water part without the hole, hydrostatic pressure is greater than the atmosphere pressure inside the bottle. However, since water is not compressible like air, it has to come out...
You can see Steve on The Spangler Effect and Spangler Science TV channels on TH-cam:)
I would guess the independent variable is the air pressure inside the bottle but outside the balloon, and the dependent variable is how that pressure acts upon the substances in the balloon.
its because of the preasure in the bottle and there is no much space. like for example if you suck air out of the bottle and then blow up the ballon it would work , it would blow more.
Very nice!
Brilliant!
If im right in saying, it doesnt blow up because the air inside the bottle is pressing against the balloon but if air were to escape the balloon didnt have any forces pushing against it because when the balloon expands, it pushes the air out through the hole.
I love this music! I was singing it the other day!
Hello there, and what is your question?
I just want to say that when im bored and have nothing to do i come to ur vids and put auto play sit back and watch
Well a lot of guys got their answers right :D that is nice to see
Kind of. There would be less air per unit of volume inside the bottle than outside the bottle. So there would be less pressure inside the bottle and more pressure outside the bottle. So the outside pressure that is greater keeps the balloon expanded. I think.
Thank you very much for this. I'll do this in my lab class.
Basic displacement rules. It is the same rule as pistons and pressure.
awesome. finally something I haven't seen on your channels. really cool.
You have to have the hole because when you blow up the balloon it builds up pressure from the existing air, with the hole once you blow it up the air can be released from the bottle so the balloon can take the place.
The pressure in the bottle will not allow the expansion of the object with no hole. The hole lets the air escape so that the ballon can expand. Is this right?
Done this at school With a tripwire mechanism I tripped over it and Permanant Black paint was covered all over the class
the pressure in the bottle created by the inflation of the balloon forces the air out of the ballon to equalize the pressure
Pressure inside the bottle. Therefore if the hole wasn't there the internal pressure would restrict the inflation. The tape over the hole makes a vacuum, keeping the balloon suspended in the bottle
Put a little bit of hot water in the bottom of the bottle before attaching the balloon then dunk the bottle in cold water. The change in air pressure inside the bottle should expand the balloon.
Yes and no. You can blow the balloon up if the air pressure is less than the air pressure in the balloon. You can also achieve this by cooling the bottle down since pressure is relative to volume and temperature. There are many ways to achieve this.
Finally i got it..! Sick SCience was reallly helpful thankz!
You can't blow it up without a hole because when you blow up the balloon it takes up space so you have to get rid of air to make space for the balloon. The only way to get rid of it is by pokeing a hole so the air can come out.
it is all air presser that creates suction around the rubber of the ballon not the air used to blow it up
the water won't go up because there is no air on the bottom pushing the balloon and if there is then the air pushes the balloon but it can't push it out the bottle so it pushes the water
(involves pressure)
because the balloon needs to expand and if the pressure of the air in the balloon pressing against it isn't released by (using the hole to let the air out ) the balloon will pop
The concealed air in the bottle was trapped by the balloon when placed around the cap area, so their was no way for the air escape, so all it could do is stay in the bottle and add pressure, keeping the balloon from being blown into a circular stage, but when he poked the hole in the bottom of the bottle it was released and the balloon was then able to be blown up and to be filled with water. It's like a syringe really, when the knub on the bottom of it is pushed, the fluids on the insideare forced out of the needle on the end.
At the "Here is what you need" bit, at the end you should have put ".. And a friends house".
This was uploaded on my birthday!
Kindly do an experiment on 'perpetual motion' (near).
because the air in the bottle have nowhere to go except against the balloon so the balloon doesn't inflate but when u poke a hole at the bottom the air can escape through the bottom allowing the air to go into the balloon
You can't blow up the balloon in the bottle without the hole because the skin of the balloon is pushing against the particles of air and other gases making pressure and so the balloon can't go further because the particles are stopping it because particles don't disappear, they just get compressed. The hole provides an escape route for the particles letting them escape and resulting in the balloon getting blown-up inside the bottle :D (I'm 14...)
what is the independent and dependent variable of this project?
I used to do this as a kid!
Pretty cool to use as a vase
that is so awesome o.O
especially the water balloon part :O
good for you...you payed attention in basic, BASIC science...
Its because there's air pressure Inside the bottle so the air is taking up the space so the only solution was to get rid of that air or have some space for it to go to.
Why doesn't the air escape out of the balloon through the nozzle when the hole is closed? Is it cause doing that means there won't be any air to surround the empty balloon?
The atmospheric pressure inside the bottle cant escape while your trying to introduce more atmospheric pressure into the bottle
and when you have it blown up and you seal the hole the air pressure then doesn't allow the balloon to shrink.
You can't blow the balloon as air is occupying the space . Hence , with the hole , air is able to escape the the bottle through the hole . The balloon is able to be blown up as the air in the balloon will occupy the space which was once occupied by air .
Urm , yeah .. I guess . I'm 12 and i learnt this in school :P
Go Sick Science!
Yes but not quite, it has to do with air pressure too. When you inflate the balloon it takes more space, but how can you inflate the balloon if the space is already occupied with air. You can do it with compressed air but it kinda gets dangerous because the bottle is plastic. If you do it that way the air compresses and the balloon will inflate, but there is a chance the bottle will blow up from the air pressure...
the air in side the bottle causes preasure so the balloon has no space to be bigger
I need to try this. Totally.
why does the air "pour" out at the bottle on step 2 ?
awesome video Steve
You can leave this sitting on a smooth surface table or something like that, filled with water and just watch for someone to pick it up and get splashed.
The air pressure in the bottle is too great
We just had our 100th episode, check it out Sick Science! #100
You can't blow it up because of the air pressure in the bottle and the pressure makes Like a force against the balloon
I love the music.
That's what I was thinking too!
Air preasure in the bottle
pressure on inside blocks more air
I LOVE SCIENCE
That's cool and no idea why that is though, time to go researching
When you blow the balloon in the bottle there is air surrounding it, when there is a hole all the air can escape thus blowing the balloon
when you blow up the baloon the air has nowhere to go because there is no hole there for the baloon cant expand when you poke the hole the air has somehwere to go
finally an easy thing i can try thanks
You cant blow the boallon because of the air in the bottle. Its impossiblre to add space in more space right?Thats what happens.Air is taking up the space inside of the bottle. And when the man tries to blow the ballon, there is no space for it to grow!
the pressure
Best way as use of a water balloon grenade.
Because the exact same pressure that you're blowing into the balloon , the bottle is pushing out because there is no room for air to escape .
there is air taking up the space in the bottle. The hole releases the air to give the balloon the space to blow up.
American English - Liter
Everywhere else English - Litre
You don't see liter that much because americans often use oz instead of liters.
It's just like center and centre, caliber and calibre, theater and theatre, saber and sabre.
air is trying to get out when you try to blow in
i did this the other day in science class
I think that guy is Higensworth!
you can't blow up the end because the air can't get out without the hole and the balloon is trying to push out air but it can't without the hole!
The air in the bottle takes up space and when u blow the balloon the air in the bottle forces the air out of the balloon
*Didn't pay any attention in science classes*
*Watches science video's now that I'm in college*
Wait, wha-
It creates a vacuum and there is no where for the air to go that is already inside the bottle without popping
because the preasure in the bottle
The air pressure in the bottle cannot allow the balloon to inflate, because there is no room inside the bottle for more volume.
you cant blow a balloon int the bottle because the air in the bottle is taking up space. you can bow it up a liitle bit because of the air that escaped when u opened the bottle but u cant blow it up completely
Without the hole in the bottle, the air inside is trapped and you can't fit any more air in, the hole lets the air escape.
my balloon exploded and my room is soaking wet, i hope your happy steve...
Pressure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AIR PRESSURE
STOOPPIINGG
THE
BALLOON
CANT MOVE
the air in the bottle dozen let the ballon to expand but with the hole in the bottle the air escapes
and let the ballon to expand
I am so doing this.
P.s.
Havent you shown your face before on the different shows youve been one. I thought I remembered seeing something like that.
Because of the astounding amounts of air pressure in the bottle.
"Why can't you blow up the balloon without the hole in the bottle?"
Because science!
Awesome im going to prank my friends with this!!!!!
I can, i can! (I have a 140 psi air compressor in the garage). Of course I'm gonna burst the liter bottle.
the trapped air doesn't allow any space for the balloon to Blow up, so when the hole is made the air escapes and gives the balloon space.....?
Because the air in the bottle can't go anywhere without the hole!
Who does theses videos?? Higginsworth??/
