Gertrude Saddle Hike - Fiordland National Park
Wow what an adventure!
After a short walk through native bush along the valley floor you’ll start your climb.
Be sure to follow the organge DOC markers especially when crossing the Gertrude Steam beneath a large waterfall halfway up to Black Lake which is a nice spot to have a snack and take in the views.
Soon after you’ll reach some steeper sections where you’ll use fixed steel ropes to help you on the rock slabs *could be very slippy when wet!
You’re nearly there! Bit of bouldering along the way and you’ll soon be rewarded with amazing views of Milford Sound and towering mountains at Gertrude Saddle.
Descend the same way you ascended!

Getting there: Approx 270km from Queenstown or just under 100km from Te Anau… Just shy of the Homer tunnel on the way to Milford Sound.
