I totally agree about using the right hand in a band setting. The bass player has a great opportunity in this number to show his stuff, so why get in the way!

Tony, I'm in my 70s and I have just come back to playing piano. I've not played for over 35 years so I'm a little rusty but I have plenty of spare time. I have to say I have no illusions of playing professional piano it's just for my own enjoyment. Thank for your insight.
Man you picked out this solo quick. I just used the blues scale when I played it several years back. Nothing sounds bad in the blues scale but its not like the original. I wish your channel had been available 30 years ago.😀
Hello Tony. Great song, I like it very much. Listen, in the late 1990's a German guy showed me a version where they used the C chord also : Am7, Bm7, C7+, Bm7, .... I never found the name of that band again, but it was clear to me. And now I realize the original is only the 2 chords.
hey Marcos, a lot of people play it in the way that you described: Am7-Bm7-CMaj7-Bm7...etc. I've seen even high level pro play it both ways, but here's what's interesting about that- if you take an Am7 chord and put a CM7 chord on top of it you end up with an Am9 chord, so both chords can really sit on top of each other nicely. You can actually mix and match those 2 chords a little bit, in other words do the 2 chord vamp and every once in a while go up to CM7 instead of down to the Am. Try it, it's fun. Hope this makes sense.

I know you've covered "Someday my prince will come", but was wondering if you could do some analysis on it, in particular, Miles Davis' recording? Wynton Kelly's intro really fascinates me - he does some snazzy stuff over an f ostinato - think it would be an interesting thing to cover ! Keep uploading, it's invaluable to all of us! Our "Prince". :)

I"m an intermediate jazz piano player but I still get lost sometimes when I improvise in modal tunes like "so what", I don't always "feel" the 4-bars or 8-bars phrases, do you have a trick HOW to practice to obtain it. I hope you understand my english, I"m from Québec. Thanks again.
Could you do a leson about Stablemates(of course you could, you're totally able) but the question stays, are you willing to do that? also focussed to the scales for soloing?
No. The right hand might play a C chord but the bass almost always plays an A on that chord so it is Am7 even if you are only playing notes from the C chord.
