I cry for a very good reason… all I can think about is my 7 year old son, who is about to turn 30 this year. He was 7 when his dad and I divorced because his dad left me for a much younger woman and turned my son’s whole world upside down and out of my 4 children, it seemed to affect him the most, even to this day he has struggled in various ways because of it. He is doing fine now, but it has been hard as a mom to watch and to wonder what the trajectory of his life would have been, if his dad and I had stayed together, if more families stayed together and made things work for the sake of their children; and I mean really make things work, not faking it. I was truly willing to forgive and patch things up, at the time. Not saying I was an innocent and perfect party, by any means. It’s never that simple. It never is. 😌
I think it will… eventually. Someone super-famous will stumble upon Ben Rector one day & promote him because that someone loves his music. Then someone famous (maybe the same person, maybe a friend) will put his music in a movie soundtrack and that movie will become super popular… and next thing you know, millions of views on all these videos!
@@wilcovmeppelen It would have to be a motion control rig to do that.. I dont think it is. It looks like the tempo changes are built in so they'd add 4-8bars relative to the slomo section depending on the frame rate that they slow down to
@Ben, I'm no piss-ass guy. But when I listen to your music something in me just breaks down and I become extremely emotional. You are talking to my soul

What I find captivating about this song is the lyrics get more somber as it plays out; it’s well written. While listening, it’s hard not to reminisce about one’s own adolescence and transition to adulthood. All of our childhood heroes eventually fade away - lost to old age or the snares of the world. This song captures the reality we all experience in slowly losing our innocence. No one can escape it.
Ben's songs and music are more than nostalgic, they're iconic in a way, God has blessed this man to be a blessing to the world 🌎💖. Listening to Ben's songs bring me happiness, it has a good old fashioned kind of feel good quality about it. Thank you my Heavenly Father for Ben's gift and music 🎵🎶🎹🌈. ✝️🕊️👼🏾🌎😎🕯️🎈🦋🇺🇸🦅☺️
How the heck does this Channel only have 111K subscribers.... I mean seriously... One of the few artists I feel has stayed true to his music and doesn't care about getting massive. Just makes music because he loves to.
I just turned 37 yesterday and this song resonates so much. I’m married to an amazing woman and have 3 wonderful kids, but the hardest part is feeling stagnant in life and facing the real world. Wish I could be the Real Hero that my young kids see with their innocent eyes, but one day they’ll find out I’m just a flawed man, trying to give them a better life.
David Wilcox calls it “the big boring middle in this long book of life”…don’t give up, Dad…you’re guiding someone else through rough waters and even the little things matter that you teach.
Such a fantastic song - perfect song for a highway drive with windows down! I think I know the man in the red outfit. Love my uncle Brad! Congrats on a successful song.
An alt title for this project could have been the Happiest Sad Album. He’s playing with tension in the lyrics and music and humour of this album, and it really works.
Gees, this is Life, words I've asked a many times, where are the heroes I remember, gone life in the system removes the imagination of your youth. They call it growing up.

Heroes is my fav track on the album, too, so I just all around loved this.

Oh man! That really got the waterworks going for me, such a beautiful appreciation of living life to the fullest at every age, even rocking out in spandex at my grandparents age!
Brilliant YET AGAIN! Found out at work a couple weeks ago that all my bosses love you and have loved you for years! Totally brought us together in a new way! Told them about Sunday after the video launched and now it’s become a staple between us all. We work at Chick-FIL-A. 🙏❤️❤️❤️
How is it that during the chorus and bridge they are all in slow motion yet his lips are back in sync and the drums too!! Hats off to the video director
another great song ben! I just have to say... (having been a (rather poor) bible study leader myself for quite a few years), the point of being a bible study leader isn't to have a "perfect" Christian life. (if there even is such a "perfect" life). The point is to encourage each other to be faithful despite all the challenges and ups and downs that will inevitably come. I'm still finding that out for myself. Anyway, the fact that you remember what your bible study leader said all these years later shows that what he did in faith will bear fruit eventually! God bless. Really enjoying your music, Ben.
There will for always be heroes among your angels... Always... True friends, by your side... Here, there and beyond a place called once upon a time in everywhere... Sending love and only love... Waiting on a beautiful Little Langley Larney Lady Angel... Beauty... Beauty and more

Somehow this is definitely in the times we live in now, but so ahead of our time; at the same time. Forever glad I heard Ben’s music🤞🏼😍
What a great song. So glad I decided to ignore the silly optics upon first glance to find how well the images related to the lyrics. Ben has found a new fan!

Does anyone else cry for no reason when they listen to Ben's songs? Or is it just me.
Yes definitely me
Somehow he makes us reminisce about the imperfect old world which we sadly yearn for as we see the new world crumble around us

Good song
It’s incredible how this video is shot in one take, then slowmo and then getting back to tempo, that’s some artistry on its own.
I agree‼️
Right!? As a film maker I have no idea how they did that.
Crazy indeed! Maybe they played the track in the background in variable tempos every time and that they played along with?

Almost 70 years old and just found Ben, and his musical style and lyric tempo. Lucky me, thanks Ben.
That french horn part though. Beautiful little detail.
I wish I had heard this when it came out. It reminds me so much of my son who I lost February 6th this year.
I think the best song on the album.
The hardest part of growing up, was not getting old.
I just love Ben’s writing ability to make you look at the beauty of life but in the realist way. If that makes sense. Like a reminiscing nostalgia

I'm really digging the overall direction from Ben in this album. I've followed him from the Duke days...consistent, solid songwriting. It's been a joy
Remember when music had emotion and great songwriting? Ben does......

My mind literally can’t compute how they planned for the speed ramping in what appears to be a one take gimbal shot. Mad props to the whole production

The album is objectively the worst he has ever made. One good song does not an interesting/dynamic LP make.
That was amazing. The slow motion in time with the lyrics blew my brain wide open.
Now, come to Phoenix...we need you.

But his wife's remarried now, and I think he sells garage doors
I miss when I thought chasing dreams was
Holy magic behind curtains in a sacred place
'Fore it was managers and lawyers
Who colored up and cashed them out
For vacation homes in coastal states
