- Akiane Kramarik is an American poet and painter. She began drawing at the age of four. Kramarik's best-known painting is Prince of Peace, which she completed at the age of eight. This gripping documentary explores the stories of Akiane and also Ariel Lanyi, a 10-year old pianist and composer from Israel who was fed classical music from the moment of his birth.

What I found most sad is that after the boy played at the bar at such a late hour, he asked his father if he did well and fathers response was dissatisfied! that he could have done better! The boy excused himself that he was tired and he was holding his tears back, he just wanted his fathers approval, and it was his fathers job to say „son you did your best even though it’s so late and you must of been tired, I am so proud of your strength“. This boy will never be enough, it’s a tactic to push other to work hard to please a parent.
And it does not work! My parents would do that to my older sister who was bringing in a high grade average. It just made her look outside the home for acceptance. It also taught me why work hard if all they are going to do is put you down. I would purposely bring below average grades home. I regret it now at age 50, but as a child your brain is concentrated on parent approval.
Well, say what you want but it's his kid who's the superstar. Not yours. I wonder why. Ever think maybe he's doing something right and your ideas aren't working?

I don’t think he “was looking for his fathers approval”, I see a boy looking to connect. In his heart he knew he has better in him and that being tired affected his performance. This child, I believe, would not want not trust false accolades from his father. His father responded with great respect and love, which strengthens trust, (at least that’s the way I see it.
@@PatinaEdochie if the father’s boy had lied to him and told him, no, no, no, you did a great job, the point would’ve felt betrayed. By the father, supporting him, but loving him through it, the boy Could feel the love and support without judgment.
It was sad to see his father tell him he could have done better. What pressure for a child. Don't push him for your gain dad.
Akiane's family has been supportive through thick & thin. She has brought me back in touch with my faith, and I will be purchasing a print but I don't know which to pick as they are all so beautiful.
AKIANE... for me... painted many beautiful pieces... she and her family i think are not driven by money... AKIANE believed that her gift is GOD given... to paint from such a very young age without any formal training is most extraordinary... GOD BLESS this young lady and her family

So have you seen her actually paint one of her paintings from start to finish?? What we get is a couple seconds clips showing her touching up lips with a bit of pink or white to already painted eyes. These clips show these paintings almost done! Let’s see her start one and show us how she makes these images. The God and her running things is as scripted as it gets. Research Marla Olmstead

Life is so much bigger than the living. Talent is beaten out of children at school now. I grea up being allowed to do anything artistic I wanted, I painted, sewed, generally created everything all my youth and today I still create every day.

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,

it's so nice her family are supportive by giving her a painting room~ !
She is the sole bread-winner in the house, of course they gave her the studio! And I wouldn't call it support. Truly supportive parents provide for the family, help children develop their passions but don't rely on them to make money for the family. Parents should focus on their own careers. Unfortunately, they didn't. Now, when you see Akiane, you see the whole industry around her, every member of her family sucked to her, profiting on her talent... 😖 Still, to this day.
@@marta9127 why do you think her family benefits her? Akiane herself had the desire to support her family and the family also does everything possible to help her. It's worth it that she helps her family too. Since she was a child, without the support of her parents, she could not improve her talent. In addition, there are many children in the world who have a desire to support their parents, especially as they grow older.
Akiane wanted everyone who saw her artwork to feel joy and hope. If you don't know for sure, don't just judge. God can also use children to help others.
@@MiArtMaharisoa I think that parents should support their underaged children not the other way round. It is not a grace that's granted - it is a responsibility. A normal thing. To expect a 9 y.o. child to be the bread winner for the entire family is just ridiculous.
@@marta9127 If her parents had been stuck in menial jobs, they would have come home tired and maybe even grumpy because of unkind bosses and customers. Akiane's world would have been much heavier and distracted. She would not have been able to soar. As long as the family released her at 18, I think the situation was really mutually beneficial. And, as long as they didn't push her and they only facilitated her own dreams and aspirations, I think it was ok for them to help with selling the artwork. She seems happy today even at 29.
That’s an awful lot of pressure for the young boy. Some things must be kept age appropriate, so keeping him up working into the wee hours and working like an adult was just not something I would have done with my child, genius or not. He has his whole life, so allow him to be a child first.

Ariel’s father is too much! Is he living vicariously through his boy?! The boy is now programmed to please dad at all cost to himself. Yes, Ariel is extremely talented and disciplined but his needs should be considered.

Ariel’s father is being a businessman not a father. There are numerous child prodigies who, due to being pushed and pushed , just walk away from their instrument.

There are lots of omissions here. She's genuinely a genius, but there are good teachers backing her. I can see the method there. It's not like she learns by herself, but always humans need a kind of superpowers to watch. I can tell you, from my own experience, that when we are kids (most of all of us), we have a very high potential to learn. The point is to get all the factors in our favor. Now, I can see her paintings are really good, but she still needs more knowledge to apply and learn

This type of Genius is only the ability to create in a narrow or single field but there is a lot more to a person's life. True Genius is being to live beyond the norm across all dynamics of life and livingness.

Take the young painter girl. She is objectively brilliant. But this is all she does. And she loves it!
All school did, was get in the way of my creativity. And also my learning! I learned more the first year I got the internet when I was 19, than the entire time I was at school.
I used to play 10 hours a day. I'd have played longer, if I wasn't exhausted from having to suffer through school.
School is an outmoded concept.
But there is nothing super natural about it. We are all to some degree indoctrinated into a religious world. She is the product of an extraordinary talent, plus all the time and opportunity to develop said talent. And the results are remarkable. Because SHE is remarkable! Not some intangible mythical sky wizard. I think the idea you get handed something from on high, is utterly insulting. And belittles her ability!
I worry about the little boy. You could see the pressure he felt. Kids like that, often burn out.

Our future is in the eyes of these children, they're remarkable. Now, for the introduction. When a child proudly presents you with a painting, do you enjoy the painting with the child? Occasionally, when I am admiring a child's drawing or painting and I suggest to the parent or teacher that the work of art be hung, put it on the wall. It is an honest frame of innocence brought to life thru the child. We must hammer on building a future in their eyes and not be bores to their lives.
The child needs to know MATH.
The parents basically admitted to child abuse. They didn't educate her at all and let her decide what she wants to do. Her paintings are mediocre. So what is she going to do when grows up, her painting aren't worth anything and she has no education?

Ariel's parents are crazy! They didn't allow their son to have his own dreams and passions. They made him a product of their ideas. Terrifying. This poor boy had no choice. There's something wrong with parents who buy a piano for the child who hasn't been born yet, and choose the career path for the child who is still in the womb! Ariel isn't happy, he's trying to please his father...Anyone knows how he's doing now, as an adult?
This is despicable! All the adults should be ashamed of themselves that their pleasure and entertainment is more important than the welfare of a child who should have been in bed at 8 pm. Frankly the adults might display better judgment if they had more sleep and less alcohol! Shame on them and on this father.

Whilst Akiane undoubtedly had great natural talent & technique for such a young age (capturing light, shadow, colour & form) I certainly wouldn’t say she’s a genius or a master. Observation is only one constituent of art. Picasso could paint at a professional level as a child but it was only when he began experiencing life, poverty, death, love that his work developed & progressed. From what I’ve seen of Akiane’s adult work she has developed very little & I suspect her early success & closeted upbringing has hampered this progression somewhat. Her work is too safe & has the look of cheesy Christian pamphlets or Xmas cards. There’s no conflict or expression or flare in any of her work.
@Phoenix Fox well if we are to hold the bible as the gospel truth for ‘life, the universe & everything’ …God isn’t exactly a fan of wealth or those who pursue it (see Matthew 19:24) so I doubt that He would bless a family for getting rich off of the back of His brand. I don’t personally buy into religion myself, but I do love the art, fables & architecture which came from Christianity. So setting fairytales aside, I do agree that her father saw a good business opportunity and the fact he capitalised on it during her youth was a masterstroke on his part. I do also believe that he did it with his daughter’s best interests at heart (even though it smacks of sickening televangelist greed; hoodwinking the devout into believing his daughter speaks to Christ😂)
I just think it’s a shame that the kid’s talent stagnated so early & she never got the chance to explore where her art might’ve taken her. Can you imagine if Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Caravaggio, Giacometti or Munch had never developed beyond what they painted in their youth? The world would certainly be a much poorer place.
Akiane is a success story of sorts, but not one which will ever derive any reverence in art schools in years to come.
Lol, cheezy haha, you have a point, but take note, she's painting posing static people and the environment, not warhammer 40k or star wars lol. Of course they would be safe. She's no genius but a har worker and as they say, hard work beats genius. I'm not sure if she studied further professionally like going to school, but when her painting is getting sold for thousands of dollars, she doesn't need to. There is no conflict or flare in her work because the theme is peace. Expression? There are lots of expression, mostly from the way she draws the eyes, the body positioning and also the environment she paints, mostly colorful and bright. She says she paints from her dreams mostly or from nature.
Who knows? She might dream of ctulhu and we might see weird alien art lol.
@@Kopie0830 A peaceful theme can still be daring and create conflict, especially in technique & execution…. take the impressionists for instance. They were mocked for using simple light and shadow instead of fine detail. They were laughed out of Paris & deemed untouchable by the Salon. Then the critics finally caught up & the rest is history. Their subject matter was simply nature, the human form and portraiture, and yet the flare and expression was captured within the brushstrokes & their willingness to create new & interesting ways of looking at the world.
Her art is too safe because she is not pushing at any boundaries or trying to grasp the nettle of new ideas or technique. It’s just Christian cookie-cutter cheesiness for people who are afraid of more challenging work. I completely agree that her business has done remarkably well but I think that says more about America than what it says about her talent as a painter. I do actually think she is a gifted painter btw, I just can’t believe she stopped at the threshold & never pushed things any further. Cthulhu would be a definite improvement on ‘catalogue model Jesus sporting this seasons must have shawl’

I personally wouldn't pay asking price for her works, but that doesn't mean that the value won't steadily increase. I believe people who use her works as an example of a "so-called child prodigy who's popularity waned as she grew up" are arrogant in their assumptions. It may be madness, but quality, body of work and promotion are the keys to being a successful artist by society's current standards. If you are one who only looks for originality, please let me know who's works you admire in that sense (and I'm pretty sure I can tell you of an artist who came before them).

Every baby should be learning music and math. Kids should be learning Bach and multiplication in 2nd grade, Beethoven and algebra in 3rd grade; calculus and Tchaikovsky in 4th grade.
Do you find it a bit odd that the parents did not teach her math, yet they are racking in millions?
Could it be that they don't want her to be able to differentiate between what's hers from what's there's?

And about that maths. I think every child should have the opportunity to get the basic knowledge in maths, physics, chemistry, biology, music, literature, art, history, foreign languages and so on. Those primary years (7-18) are a good time for a person to get to understand the world better. Of course as we get older, our studies become more specific according to our interests and talents...but having the basic general knowledge is really benefitial. A child deprived of this minimum becomes a disoriented adult I think. Golden rule is a must. Especially with children like Akiane.

She is undoubtedly skilled as a painter but her style is just traditional representational and not some avant garde genre busting revolution. She is no Picasso.
Im not that big of a fan of Akiane, or any living artist in general - But Picasso absolutely sucks. I'd wipe by butt with picasso's "art."

If the parents, themselves, don’t even attempt to work, despite her giving them assignment in regards to her art, and only rely on her financially for their income, I would say that yes, she’s being exploited by them. TECHNICALLY, it’s all her money, even though she’s a minor. By now (since the video is a few years old - I saw it a few years ago, even then not knowing how old the video is), she should be an adult, and has probably moved out, living an independent life on her own. Is she still supporting her parents (even though her dad said that it would stop after she turned 18), or did that stop? The narrator did, at one point, mention that she’s the only source of income for them, even her, herself, saying that it’s a big responsibility.
And in regards to the young boy, any sane parents who want their child to grow up healthy, knows that kids that age should actually be in bed by 9pm, so that they get proper sleep. Not even Jean-Claude or whoever that guy in the beanie was at the jazz club seemed to take into consideration that he was tired, just telling him “Sorry, kid, you’ve got to continue playing. I can’t tell the audience that we have to stop the show for the night just because you’re tired.”

My only thoughts: do we remember that the great masters used to travel and talk to others to get their names out there and people to understand the times of which they lived in? Parents pushing their children to become who they are- is in their own rights, but to use them to make a living, as you purpose, is a matter in worth taking a look into spiritual matters of warfare. I know that seems far fetched, but do some research. That being sad, I love seeing the paintings, and hear new composed pieces that I think our society needs. Great job for putting up a question that a few must have thought.

This girl is not even close to being a genius. 😂 ... Just because she showed some natural ability at a very young age doesn't make her a genius ... It was only 'exceptional' because she was so young. Passing the threshold into adulthood usually levels the playing field when it comes to these so called 'prodigies'. Her work still looks the same as it did when she was twelve. This should tell you something. It's a marketing gimmick and her work is actually pretty bad in my opinion. She seems like a nice person though,.. good for her that she's managed to profit from something she loves to do.
Sounds like her parents are using her to enrich their lifestyle!!!!

I have been a professional painter for over 20 years, and I'm here to tell you, the girl painter is NOT a genius. Her anatomy is weak to say the least, and that is not the only amateurish thing about her work... Sure, she has a gift, but so do millions of self-taught 13-year-olds. She will impress tasteless, ignorant people, who are also devout Christians. If her parents really care for her and not the money SHE makes... Send her to a good art collage and give her a proper art education... This absurd 'genius' hype will do her more harm than good in the long run.

@Janitor Queen she has funded a luxurious lifestyle for her parents and they dishonestly claim they did not give her a religious upbringing, yet from a very early age, she's clearly been exposed to tacky religious publications and art. She may have had the potential to be an illustrator or graphic designer but this is horrible, mediocre art for people who don't understand good taste orc great art.

Interesting how an artist only becomes an ‘industry’ because of her age. Granted, for her age it’s sort of remarkable, but the works are not nice.

The girl is a very skilled draftsperson, but her works have absolutely no nuance or subtlety.I don't mean subtlety of taste, but of actual visual representation. I found the eyes and hair to be especially spare. To be honest, they reminded me of garish velvet paintings from the 60s. She could have a go at sculpture.
Of course most kids her age couldn't do that, but the technical skill is all there is here. Hopefully, she will continue to find satisfaction in doing it

Jeez, Akiana’s parents are a bit greedy, wot? What an interesting girl, although her art doesn’t appeal to me. But what a talent! I hope she enjoys her life and doesn’t burn out early. Good luck Akiana!
Very, very few child prodigies go onto be successful as adults. Akiane Kramarik is still painting professionally and is considered mediocre. Her adult work is very similar in style and technique to the work she did as a young child. She never grew as an artist. Her work still looks like it belongs in a Watchtower magazine. She's well known for the work she did as a little kid.
Because they dont grow as a person, being toted as a prodigy kills persons emotional growth and protects them from life,, hence no growing therefore no change in perspective thusno way for skill to advance.
I can only think of about six or seven female artists who have achieved fame, and she is one of them. She is still young and although not classically learned, she is talented and committed like Picasso was. On the level of comparing her work to mediocrity, there is always some with most artworks of the last 150 years. There are very, very few artists who are truly exceptional in the classical sense if you want to break it down that way.
@@KuopioKallavesi I think that there are limits to skill, but natural ability only needs inspiration to feed it. Her inspiration is on a whole other level than your average person, so time may reveal some stylistic changes or other unforeseen abilities.
There is another angle to look at it. Good painters in this style are not popular by definition. She could be the best of them all but those are still mostly portraits and there is no place to go forward after achieving a certain level.
Fury artists are much less technical but they do have more cultural significance. This has nothing to do with her and everything to do with how culture evolves.
Mediocre compared to whom? Her updated version of Jesus is more polished than her original done as an eight year old.

It appeared to me that the boy needed his father to advocate for him. He was certainly allowed to change his mind and leave early. I understand it isn’t professional to not uphold a paid commitment. The business relies on their hired entertainment to keep customers staying and buying drinks. However, your relationship with your child here matters. If he didn’t want to continue, listen to him and cut the gig short.

I think Akiane is an exceptional and super rare talent,however, homeschooling and her sheltered upbringing didn't benefit her style. Sure, her paintings are more mature now and what she did as a small kid is exceptional and absolutely outstanding, considering she didn't have formal drawing lessons, yet she showed a really good knowledge of shading, colour theory and even inverse drawing as a little kid
(I especially like what she did from age 13 to adulthood, because you can really see her style maturing, I really love Wonder, Today, Water angel, Dancing against time,Adoptions,Water lily,Nectar,Tomorrow, Direction and Enchantment of Childhood,those are my favourite paintings from her and I personally would purchase them), but she would have profited from some master studies and advanced drawing classes as a kid, as well as having a normal childhood and teenage experience as an inspiration. She didn't develop much since she was 12 and I'm also very skeptical about the religious stuff, she didn't meet God, she has great imagination and photographical memory, so this part is pretty sketchy to me. All these "child art prodigies" like Akiane, Andrés Valencia, Autumn de Forest Kieron Williamson(I still really love his work though and would purchase it, maybe an exception) and Karolina Sávolt (personally, it's too kitschy for me,too much, with all the gold foil and opart and cartoonish looking female figures, she's talented but extremely overrated, and to me it looks like she is already close to having a burnout at almost 13, because her paintings are very repetitive and many of her characters have same-face syndrome, she'll need a teacher, otherwise she won't develop as she ages, but looks like in terms of promotion she will become a Hungarian equivalent of Akiane) are a bit overrated and wouldn't sell their paintings for that much money if they didn't have so much marketing. She seems like a lovely person though.
I totally agree with you about your attitude towards her never being properly trained - all music prodigies had or have music teachers, so why should a painter not have had teachers too. There's Emily Bear, who is a prodigy at the piano and she did take lessons from eminent teachers and she was exposed to different musical styles, including jazz, and it helped her grown and extent her repertoire.
Talent is one thing, you also have to put in a lot of work and I believe that's what she did, but there is also something impersonal, somewhat formulaic about them; it expresses ideas, but not the personality of the girl/young woman. She may have "fun" doing the paintings, but they are clearly also a product and they are sold as such - along with the story of her being a genius.
When she still had that website up where they had her paintings and drawings from age 6 onwards; I always was struck by the leap that her aptitude seemed to have taken between ages six and seven - and I do not only mean that she started using colours around that time. It somehow looked as if those very early things were added as an afterthought to show that there was something she developed from. There was a time when I doubted that she was the one who painted the pictures; I was convinced that really her mother painted them and they just sold her as hers and along with her story because it would sell better with a little girl and the God story attached.
I am also pretty fed up how they sell themselves as a pretty close-knit family and there is a lot that seems to get swept under the carpet - I think one of her brothers was even arrested for drug dealing once. I'm sure it must have been him because the name Delfini Kramarik is pretty rare, I don't think it was anyone else by that name.
@@christianealshut1123 I didn't even know about her brother being accused of that :( But yeah, her parents should have let her go to a normal school and let her follow professional training besides that, at her skill level around 6-7 she wouldn't have had problems with very advanced classes, surpassing the teacher and her early works are impressive, but looks like her family exploited her, instead of supporting her extraordinary talent. She seems very down to earth and humble though, but letting her be a normal kid and not a professional artist since primary school would have helped, waking up at 4 am was not normal at her age, she didn't have close friends growing, no exposure to other art styles (I mean, she's very versatile and with her new work I can see she's trying to experiment, like with The Game, Freedom, and The Muse, but she would be even better if she was exposed to more techniques as a little kid), and there is nothing supernatural about her success apart from being a workaholic. , her content is very impersonal. I wish she posted some tutorial videos with voiceovers, and tips and tricks for different mediums. Not like anyone would copy, but this could be a good way for her to use her gift.
@@carolinegodard3886 And what I don't like about her paintings is that she always sells a story along with it, such as why painting her self-portrait was the hardest project she ever did or what is so special about The Prince of Peace. As if she is telling us exactly how she wants them to be interpreted. And if it's one thing that draws me to any art it's that I am free to interpret it any way I want to.
And maybe you take things way too seriously for someone no one's ever heard of. Go easy on yourself, honey. Life's too short.
I think his dad is proud of him, but this child needs to have balance and not be playing at bars until late at night. Schedule the child accordingly and let him have a fun like a normal child wants and needs.
If they didn't know Akiane's age, very few people would give her paintings a second glance. She is competent but her style is very bland and has progressed little since her childhood.
Who'd say that after creating the entire universe, God would be left with such a crappy taste?
As spiritual Beings, I think we've all been around for a long, long time. Some of us carry forward all of the good things and skills we had and some......well, not so much. The monsters of yesteryear come back too and don't necessarily bless us all with their presence.
The painting are scary bad, my worry as a person who was in a BFA program is that is she's not redirected out of this schlock, she'll get stuck pumping out this Christian hotel art. The gold standard here is Thomas Kincaide, who eventually had stores in malls selling his sickening mass produced Hallmark card paintings. She has the potential to be one of the big cases of deprogramming ever in US culture.
Redirected to what, slash art and blank canvases? Art schools should teach technique and perhaps history for style exposure. It should not redirect artists from their passion just to indoctrinate them in the art of BS. Some of us appreciate actual talent be it biblical or otherwise. 90% of todays multimillion dollar "fine Art" is simply novelty paintings barely suitable for Walmart aisles. BFAs and MFAs are just exploitation initiation badges.
Wow. She’s a child. You’re really mean. Jealous? She’s making bank! Of course she’s going to paint in the same genre. Lots of artists paint the same subjects in the same style over and over because it’s what they become known for and it sells. Not everyone is as sophisticated as you think you are. Lighten up and make some art!
@@Bander471 This art is technically proficient, probably because the poor child has been made to practice for hours every day from a very early age. There is a well- known correlation between hours spent practicing and quality of output. However, these paintings are awful! She and her parents are lying about her 'visions'. These are typical conventional Catholic-style representations of Jesus and Mary as white, blue- eyed Europeans, complete with clothing which is nothing like what would have been worn in the Late Bronze Age in the Middle East by peasants. Mary was traditionally depicted wearing blue to identify her in art but no-one wore blue, apart from perhaps wealthy Romans! Obviously the girl has been shown religious picture books from babyhood which she has copied.
I predict that Ariane's art will be wireless worthless in a few years. It is tasteless kitch but her ruthless parents are now rich at the expense of their daughter having g a normal childhood.

Some families of these special children are really getting it RIGHT! Letting the children live in their interests instead of TV, tablets, bullying and watered down, useless education.
Amazing that she could do this level of work as a child, and kudos to her, but there's nothing exceptional about her work beyond her story.

@@tenonakin9237 Actually the commenter is correct ... She's not that good really. It's a marketing gimmick to put over on people who are ignorant about painting. Reminds me a bit of that artist 'the painter of light', Thomas Kincade. It's bad art, but a large demographic seem to really gravitate towards his work. Props to these people for making a great living doing what they love, but this girl is definitely no 'genius'. She showed an exceptional ability when she was very young, but as these so called 'prodigies' grow to adulthood, we can see they're not really all that 'exceptional', especially when they don't progress in skill level or concept. She's doing the same work she did when she was 12, and it's pretty corny, badly made work in my view.
She is exceptional, but the parents probably don't understand that to develop her skill she needs to live rather than create more art. She'll probably create her best art when she grows up beyond them, and beyond creating for them

She's very good for her age but her parents are clearly brainwashing her. They're not that good right now but I think in twenty years she'll be killing it in the corner of religious art. I believe in an afterlife but it took 45 years to understand "God". I've studied every religion and have toiled over occult works and Gnostic teachings. I could be wrong, I don't know sh**! Maybe she has a direct link to God.... Her art needs work though. I say this as an accomplished artist.

For Akiane I just want one question answered. Just one. The Jesus portrait (which started it all at a realy young age)....projector or no projector? It's OK if it was projector used (as I have a feeling the mom was behind it all....reminds me a lot of the Big Eyes movie with a paternal twist. Its a nagging feeling that won't go away)
