Then, as you waited for them to grab your game, you looked at all the other boxes of games you didn't get but you knew were gonna be a good time!!
I'm in my early 40s and it has been great discovering your channel and enjoying the nostalgia. I look forward to your next piece. Oh the days when we'd trade cartridges, discuss game strategies, and argue over graphics during recess.

I remember how worried Nintendo was in introducing a RPG like Dragon Warrior to the West that they went above and beyond to make that game more accessible stateside. All the explanations, all the guides and tips.
Hey Jay, NES Addict and Russ Lyman would TOTALLY play their Game Boys on the beach!
The wacky art NP used to use was so odd and wild.
It was a risky move that paid off in some ways and failed in others... it was a good time to be a Nintendo kid
Then Final Fantasy dropped and changed the whole game.

I didn't realize that both the Simon's Quest and Adventure of Link tips were in this issue. It always drove me nuts that you basically couldn't beat either of those games unless you had a subscription to Nintendo Power or knew someone else who did!
Man your videos are something else. I am so jealous of the people yet to discover your channel who will get to binge watch the whole lot!
I didn't start reading Nintendo Power until the N64 days. Still, I always looked forward to getting my monthly issue in the mail to learn what is coming soon and how to beat certain levels of a game I'm stuck on.
I miss it so much... but it probably wouldn't be the same anyway

If those people watch it then they'll get the previous episodes as recommendations. There could be potential for the whole thing to pick up.
Also I hear posting frequency is favored by the algorithm, so get that next one out kinda soon. (Totally not saying that for selfish reasons - ok maybe I am a little 😂)

When the notification bell screamed "NESComplex", I immediately stopped to do anything else and started watching the video (so, it was ten minutes ago 😅).
It was so awesome for you american people to have lived something special like Nintendo Power...here in Europe, or at least in Italy, everything was focused on Home Computers, with Commodore64 at peak (the most common magazine was called "ZZap!"). Only in the advanced nineties we got "Console Mania" and "USA Today", respectively the very first all around gaming magazine and TV show. They were good, but on my eyes Nintendo Power was something even more special. Despite being italian, I own a copy of Dragon Warrior: I found it at flea market near home. Glad to see you back, waiting for the next video.

I am just relistening to Retro Rejects podcast and the show is weirdly nostalgic for me, 2012-2015 was truly golden age of retrogaming on youtube. This video was a lovely surprise, glad you are still releasing videos, after all these years. Do you still keep in touch with Vintage? Looks like, unfortunately all his videos are down from YT.

You’re background! I just took a screenshot and sent it to my brother to see if he remembers it. It’s what the game section looked like in toy stores. You’d get a a paper slip from a blue envelope (like the one on the bottom left) out in the store somewhere and then take it to the counter to get the game.

I cannot explain how happy these videos make me. Brings back so many memories of my youth. Love it. The feeling of being 11-12 and getting a Nintendo Power in the mail was amazing.

dragon warrior was the very first rpg i ever played, and it’s one of the only CIB nes games i own (i only have 2). holds a special place in my childhood memories.
My first RPG too! Good times. Late nights...
we actually traded one of my dad’s coworkers john elway’s quarterback for dragon warrior because he couldn’t figure it out. my brother and i played the crap out of it. lots of late nights indeed.
This was the very first issue I received when I started my subscription. Saw it in the mailbox after school and immediately read it from cover to cover.
This was my first Nintendo Power issue, great video Complex!

Disney actually did pretty good on their games. Duck Tails, Chip N Dale, Tailspin, even Mickey Mousecapades. Bugs Bunny did well too with Birthday Blowout and Crazy Castle.
Yeah don't forget the best Disney game, Lion King
Mickey's Magical Quest on SNES is still one of my favorite retro games.
The Little Mermaid NES is also way better than you might think.

Once again, NesComplex saves me the trouble of digging my NP issues out of the basement for a nostalgia hit! I'm kind of shocked how much I remember so many of the illustrations. Now and then, they'd have an artist whose style would really catch my eye. It felt like a significant bonus to an interest in video games.

Man I envy that collection of Nintendo Power magazines! I used to have a good stack of those. I remember getting so excited when a new one arrived in the mail. Sadly I think I eventually threw them away. Same with my Wizard Magazines. As a comic collector you'd think I'd know better! Thankfully I came across digital scans of Nintendo Power so that's been cool to revisit.
My NP subscription started with getting Dragon Warrior and they with changed my life! Learning to go through the grind and compete an RPG taught young me how to focus and stay the course. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I was never lucky enough to have a subscription to Nintendo Power. However, I did have access to the magazine in the school library. On lucky days, a centerfold poster may have been left for the taking. I don't remember how, but I sent away for a free Nintendo Power--the page count was reduced from the retail version. The magazine I received: Nintendo Power #8 with Scrooge on the front. I still have it.
Wow! So cool... I didn't have it early on either... but I had that sample too!!
My name never appeared in NP but my half brother's did! I thiiiiiiiiiiink it was for Abbadox? No idea what issue or what his score was but if someone wanted to obsessively comb through every issue of NP look for John Courson from Santa Fe Texas.
He died about a decade ago so there's no problems with me giving out his name.

Ahh, the nostalgia is overwhelming! So much love for DuckTales, the shows and the games. It is definitely one of those NES titles that I can pop in anytime and enjoy. Dragon Warrior, everyone’s (well, from our days) first RPG. Gotta respect the classic. And man, I get all the nostalgia chills for the GameBoy version of Tetris. Takes me right back to the Christmas when my older brother got the good ol’ GB. Great stuff!

Not even sure if sure if this is your original channel, but you got me into collecting nes games after my wife drug out an old box in our basement and told me to do something with them. You had a tutorial ages ago on how to make custom plastic cases and I had made about 4-500 of them....... starting with "end nippers" and then going to an electrical tool before finally running out of space in my game room and resorting back to cartridge and manual room only. To me you will always be the OG NES collector on youtube. Glad to see you're still around!

This series is awesome. I'm in my 40's now so I'm obsessed with reminiscing about the good old days. Unfortunately, my parents either threw away or sold all my retro gaming stuff, so I have to settle for these videos. Looking forward to watching the rest!

Still have all my issues of Nintendo Power from 1988 to about 1995. Great nostalgia and memories. Collected a few more issues on and off during the GameCube and Wii eras.

@@NESComplex I really enjoy it! Its like reading the old magazines with a nerdy friend, and its especially entertaining to see how the culture has changed. There is just something about how old mags were made that you can sense how much work went into each issue. Today's issues are all done on computer with little effort and half the pages. Ive got a big ol' stack of vintage NP issues. I'd offer you some for free if you'd do more Time Machine videos but I bet you already have them all!
