I too have been shopping for a mid life crisis Italian sports planer and these always come to the top of the list. Thanks for such a detailed and thorough review. Facing that curly maple at the end really drove home how good this machine really is.
Thanks for taking the time to put this informative, practical review together. I’m considering an upgrade to the same machine for the same reasons you had and in a similar size space. Your video helped answer a number of user experience questions that are often difficult to find. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to the notification that tells me you’ve released the video on “How to invent space.”
Nice review man! I got the 16" version of this. Took like 9 months to get it due to shipping / logistics during COVID. I'm surprised they don't do the mobility kit for this any more. I'm not sure if you got it, but the Xylent cutterhead maintenance kit is great, comes with a little diametric tool to set the right torque on the insert cutters, I found that on my old machine I was for sure over torquing the inserts after using the tool that comes with the SCM machine.
I have been researching all the different brands of planer thicknesses and your review has affirmed my decision, that this is the best machine for me. Thank you for your excellent review. Subscribed.
You have a really good channel here, your honestly is what sets you apart from everyone else. As always a fantastic review! Please keep making videos, your honesty helps us to make good choices.
If you had to, have you figured out how to adjust everything. I hear the manuals are pretty much written in hieroglyphics. I hope you have so maybe you could answer any questions if I have them. Thanks
Fantastic review. Everything said and shown. I thank you so much! I love the way you're explaining. There are too less reviews out there for this machine. I am looking for this machine since 2 days now. I was one year on the trip for a hammer A3 31 but i realiazed that the Minimax is far better.
I have one and it's been perfect so far. Now I want an SCMI combo machine but I don't wanna give up my 16" planer--or the $20k or whatever it will cost me.
I'm in UK. I've been looking at the same model of levelling castors for lots of projects - heavy planters in garden, kitchen islands, workbench in outbuilding, washing machine, fridge freezer. They're low profile so can get tall, heavy items through doorways
Love the midlife crisis quip. Nice gentle comic timing. I think the grooves reduce the suction effect of smooth on smooth surfaces. Downside is they can hold resin from softwood so wipe with toothbrush dipped in white spirit occasionally. If we hadn't helped our children buy roofs over their heads I'd have got this planer-jointer. World changed from when we were young and a nothing special income paid enough to get affordable mortgage for house. Not sure I'd want to be young again in the gig economy
LOL...that's not a midlife crisis my friend that is choosing to spend your money on things that keep you busy and entertain you. I am right there with you. I'll take a CNC machine or sliding table saw over a Rolex watch any day. Good video content by the way.
I did not have to make any adjustments to mine, but I believe the information to do so is in the manual. If you are having problems making the tables coplanar, you should contact your dealer or the manufacturer. Thanks for watching!
Hi, is there anything you’d change about the review now that a little more than a year has passed? Asking because I’m thinking about ordering one soon. Also, what did you finally end up selecting for a mobility kit/casters. Thank you in advance.
I do not know the exact requirements of the machine, but base on my setup with a vac that claims 806 CFM connected to about 32’ of ducting elbows and blast gates. I would guess I’m getting about 500 CFM at the machine with the other two branches closed. Under these conditions, I’m getting fairly good results. I hope this helps.
@@concentrichomesolutions Thank you, this was helpful. Ps, I bought the SCM FS 30x yesterday. I am very excited. Your video really helped me massively on my decision.
Soon i will have one and plan on a review, picking it apart and mabey keep updating it every few years so a timeline is present. One of the reasons i want to do this is because there are so few reviews on this machine. If you dig through comments on forums in SMC, there are a few dedicated supporters. I hope for the best it is what it is and i will not justify and be blind to myself or others. Thanks you, and await my own #2 Italian combo 😂.
Nice video. I think you can lift the tables with out removing the pork chop. I have the fs41e. It’s a bit different but I think it works the same. Check out my insanely high production quality video on it

I've become an expert at inventing space! LOL! Thanks for watching!
I just put a deposit on the 16" and was getting cold feet. Your video provided me a second wind of confidence. Thank you sir.
I’m extremely pleased with my purchase and I’m sure you will be also! Enjoy! Thanks for watching!
I just did the same... FS41C with the Tersa cutterblock. What did they give you for an estimated delivery timeframe?
@@MrMooseSlayer November. I ordered 4-weeks ago. What did you get?
@@ProfessorClay I ordered 2 weeks ago and was told Jan of '22... I hope they're being ultra conservative!

If you had to, have you figured out how to adjust everything. I hear the manuals are pretty much written in hieroglyphics. I hope you have so maybe you could answer any questions if I have them. Thanks
There wasn’t anything much to adjust on the one I got. As I recall, I adjusted the belt tension on the motor and the fence. Thanks for watching!

Hi. Great video. I was wondering where you bought the height dial indicator from? Is that an aftermarket add-on? Mine doesn't have that. Thanks much!
I believe that it is standard with machines that has the spiral cutting head option. Thanks for watching!

In an alternate reality somewhere far, far away, millionaires are modifying their Lamborghini doors to look like jointer/planer combos.
Thanks for watching Matt!
