Last week we just installed a Soul non-valved exhaust on my 2016 Cayman. . My car was bought new by me in So Cal and doesn't have many miles and no rust so everything came off no problem. Watching you deal with those rusty bolts and nuts sure did not look like fun, but good on you for getting through that part. I like the fit and finish on the Soul exhaust as mine went on in no time with the car up on a lift. The pops, bangs and burbles from both on and off the throttle being the best part of the whole thing to me. I also like the slightly smaller size and a little less weight. After the install I wiped everything down with WD 40 and will have to check my pipes to see what they look like now after the first run in. I ordered my car in Jan 2016 after I read that Porsche were going to a 4 cylinder turbo in the new 17 models and was always glad I did but the one big option I did not get on my minimalist build was the Sport Exhaust .I even bought a slightly used OEM Sport exhaust years ago but was never motivated to put it on. I like what you have done so far with your Cayman, you are helping show what great cars the 981 models are and how to make them even better.
Just installed Soul performance exhaust ( cat back) with BMC air filters and finished with a tune via FVD brombacher on my 981 cayman s. Love the sound. I have zero regrets. Impressive!
@@TommyLGarage Nope its loud enough with the competition headers. I think it would be crazy loud with a aftermarket catback. I posted my install video.
A piece of advice to anyone doing this job, drench all the nuts and bolts in plus gas, leave overnight, use some heat on the nuts, then use a damaged nut extraction socket, they are very cheap to buy, this is the life saver, grips what’s left of the nut and digs into it, with the heat on it to expand it and the threads cleaned up as best possible, they should come off, I just did it and all were i off in 1.5 hours and was pretty easy tbh!
I've got the Soul Performance Valvetronic exhaust with carbon fiber tips on my F80 M3 which I think sounds great. Too bad they're discontinued since Nov 2019 though.
I wonder if in the end if it would’ve been easier just to remove the headers. I always hear everybody say that removing the headers on a Porsche is super easy. So I wonder if it would’ve saved a few days by just buying some new exhaust gaskets? Anyways awesome install and such a rad track car🏁🏁🏁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Don’t really help as your driveshafts are in the way for complete removal, with the headers still attached it would be quite heavy and awkward to manoeuvre about, they don’t split easily at the rear boxes, even on the ground they are hard to split
@@TommyLGarage Yup, the rest was pretty easy except those bolts. Are you planning to upgrade your headers as well? I think you should. I have 200 cell cats waiting to be installed and from the clips I found on TH-cam, it will take the sound of this flat-six to another level.
Adam E Honestly I do not think I will bother. Heathers will create drone and I want to be able to enjoy the car a long cruises. At this point it is loud enough for me
@@TommyLGarage I heard that's a problem with after market exhausts. With PSE, it's not an issue. Mine doesn't drone and it's totally quiet when cruising on the highway. As quiet as stock in my ears. But once you open the valve and put it on sports/sports plus, it becomes a totally new car. I'd still say high flow cat headers is a must for sound and power upgrade. I had mine installed today and tuned to stage 2.

Sounds great... and none of the stupid pops and bangs noises that I hear on so many 981 exhaust videos... just a nice burbly overrun noise, amazing. Any ideas why your car doesn't do that?
Is there a Part 2, where you hook up the controller? I have installed the Porsche Sport Exhaust system on my Boxster 981 but not the controller yet. I actually have the Soul controller unit with transmitter. Curious how you tie into the vacuum and electrical on your vehicle.
Now that the system has been installed for the past 16 months what are your overall thoughts on the setup? Has the color changed much or was the color change due to the product being covered with an oil as a part of the manufacturing process?
I really want to get into a cayman but idk what years to get my budget is sub 30 so I don’t think I can go past 2011 what’s your opinion if I hold out another year or two I can get an f80 most likely but something about a Porsche

Even with stock exhaust, its a blast to wring out in a tunnel ;) I drove a 2016 with what I believe was stock upgraded exhaust and the drone was horrible. Then again, I am a purist. Hell, I've even been known to eat bologna plain on white bread - lol! Cheers!

Those bolts were a pain the as* to remove. Took me the whole day to remove my stock exhaust and upgrade it to PSE system w/ a valve controller aswell.

So the car pops in sport mode. Sport mode turned off and it doesn’t pop

Color changed. This was the best modification I’ve done to the car. I would do it again without any hesitation.

Depends. Manuals carry a big premium. $48k for a manual 2014 base is ok in today’s market with a manual but too high for pdk
