    Striker. A weapon so "balanced" that they gave one to the other factions too.
    Speaking of balance, did anyone else find it hilarious when TR finally got a long-range AV option and the VS and NC immediately started crying?

      This shit is ass i got clapped in my syth by 6 guys in a valk and all 4 passengees had strikers i got evaporated instantly and then they proceeded obliterate 3 more esfs

      +Wrel i was hoping to see some information on the effect of vehicle stealth on the striker. i don't know if the increased lock-on time affects it, but i seem to be able to dodge coyote missiles much easier when i use stealth. Could be interesting to do some tests on it.

    If they increased the fire rate to give it that burst potential. (drop the mag in a 1s - 1.5s) it would be far more usable. Getting the rockets in the air before the first one even locks on, would be a huge buff to the thing. Plus since it doesn't flat out kill an ESF I can't imagine pilots complaining about it since they would have the entire length of the short reload to get out of there.

    Wrel, I am a new subscriber and have been playing ps2 on the PlayStation four for a few months now and you are the only consistent you tuber that shows great quality videos and I thank you for this. You are very educational and a great watch. A little constructive criticism; try talking about the ps4 and the xbox1 versions a little to broaden your spectrum info that you're giving out to people. Thanks for the great videos

    Its good when used in groups is true to every other weapons too and the joke is, the other AA weapons are much better when used in groups than the striker.

      +kicsiqki 5 people who can't lock onto a target because there are trees or mountains in the way = 5 people who can't do damage. Strikers would be able to, that's one of the reasons it scales well.

      +kicsiqki or you could pull a bunch of maxes, be stuck to your 350 nanite "class" and still have to hump some engineers. feels like you could spend 1k certs for another burster and 1k certs for extended mags and still watch air getaway; striker is 1k cheaper, people still run off if you tag them a bit, and you won't feel bad taking your striker off when you're done with it.

    back when this had normal lock on, i saw over a dozen people using it (may have had some vulcan maxes too) stopping the NC pushing north from Ymir's facilities. it's not often you see vanguards getting farmed by infantry, so for that reason alone i love the striker. nowadays, i like it because you can put damage easily onto that damn ESF that's flitting like a sparrow over the facility with breakers or a PPA.

      WHY THE FUCK is it an ANTI-AIR weapon if the lock-on is for short range?! XD

    I have the Striker but I've never spent much time with it. When I got it, I tried using it some, and I still stubbornly run it on my heavy assault because I've been trying to figure out how to use it effectively. This clears this up a bit and explains my frustrations. I've never thought about its potential on Hossin, I guess I know where I'm using it now. Thanks for the review.

      Personally I preffer a rocketlauncher that I can pull out when I see a MAX as I turn around a corner or a Tank sometimes. The old T2 Striker was actually really effective against tanks and ground vehicles as well as of course flying vehicles, but it couldn't fire unless it locked on. (And it can't lock on infantry and that includes MAXs.)
      I guess we can say that it's a good thing that we can now fire without locking on a target, but overall the T2 Striker is much weaker than it used to be.
      Back then destroying a Galaxy was a piece of cake with the Striker, but now you don't have a chance even if you empty like 3 mags on it.

    The one thing the striker is really good at is dealing with skyknights farming groundtroops. They usually dont let you lockon, they know how to avoid getting hit by normal locks. The striker can at least damage them so they have to repair. I defended a sundy with my striker agaist 3 BR 100 Scythes for several minutes, so it works in some situations. The reason why it sucks is, a double-burster-Max can do the same, but at longer ranges, has more ammo, more damage output and can use lockdown and it also fucks up the enemys vision and framerate. The problem is not that the striker is useless, its just that the Burster does the same.

    My TR heavy uses the Striker nearly every day. It is my go to weapon for 'fun' and area of denial. Many newer troops don't realize the 200+ damage and overreact. A cluster of vehicles is easy pickings and I get kills consistently with it. Hitting tanks from the rear works best (no surprise there) and Lightnings are the easiest to kill.
    Also, much like many of your reviews state, picking off wounded, burning and smoking aircraft are good tactics. It does generate decent bonuses but will be out performed by many other suit fits. For fun play time, nothing beats it except possibly the TR MAX with rockets.

    I play TR as my primary, but I also have characters in the NC and VS (VS being my main prior to going over to TR side). I own the Lancer, the Phoenix and the Striker and my impressions of them are:
    The Lancer is similar to the Saron or Gatekeeper (vehicle secondaries) where you can stand in one spot and shoot at a target with pin-point accuracy, and if someone puts an ammo pack down, you can encourage others to start doing what you're doing and before you know it, there's a VS Lancer battery on a hill or on a tech plant tower that's blasting armor that dares come out into the open. The extreme range makes them viable targets for snipers and area of effect blasts from tanks or aircraft, but the window for killing these players can often be small pending on the scenario. Lancers are also great for taking out aircraft, especially liberators and galaxies due to their bulk.
    Phoenix launchers can be extremely deadly and used creatively. I once saw an entire squad of Phoenix users stand up on a hill behind the North East tech plant on Indar so nobody could see them, and they fired Phoenix missiles up through the balcony window to take out a sunderer that was sitting on top of the tech plant and stopping the NC from taking the base. The ability to fire your rocket from behind cover where nobody can hit you, then guiding your missile to the target, is extremely useful against enemy armor. None of the TR could do anything about the Anti-Tank NC Phoenix Battery because we couldn't see them, so we shot down the rockets instead of the players. Yes, the major draw-back with the Phoenix is that the rockets can be shot down before they reach their destination. They also have a very tight turn, making it difficult to fire straight up and then hit something that's 10 meters away, because you have to tediously angle your rocket to hit something before it's shot down. The Phoenix is also just shy of useless against MAX units because when you fire the rocket, your body stands still while you guide the rocket. You are an extremely easy target when you fire a Phoenix missile at a MAX while you're squaring off with one, I would say to DEFINITELY not use the Phoenix against MAX suits.
    The Striker? Unlike the Phoenix and Lancer, you are less likely to start using it and encourage others to stand beside you and use it. Many TR players will see you using the Striker, raise a brow and go grab a Grounder instead. The Striker is definitely a deterrent weapon, similar to the Skyguard on the Lightning, where you can fire a ton of bullets at a target, but never be guaranteed a kill. The damage ratio is poor compared to the other two weapons and, as Wrel pointed out, it's really only useful for taking out sunderers when it comes to anti-armor. Like the Lancer, the Striker doesn't deal quite as much damage to Infantry, but it can make a MAX's day difficult -- and like the Lancer, I wouldn't go 1v1 against a MAX with a Striker / Lancer; use it in a crowd so there's bodies in front of you to take hits while you line up a shot.
    Overall, the roles for the ESRocket Launchers are:
    Lancer: Anti-Armor & Anti-Air (mostly against Libs and Gals) w/ some Anti-MAX capabilities in large groups.
    Phoenix: Anti Armor & Anti Infantry at a range.
    Striker: Anti-Air (useful against all types of air) w/ some Anti-MAX capabilities in large groups.

    I can actually say from personal experience that the "Striker Valkyrie" isn't nearly as fun or effective as you might think. The lock-on component is really funky while in a Valkyrie's rumble seat, so it's actually really hard to get a hit. Also, sometimes the lock on just flat out fails when in a Valk (no idea why, lag could be a factor.)

    Unreal Tournament's rocket launcher has an alternate firing mode that may work for a Striker revamp:
    Holding down the firing button loads another rocket into its chamber (max of 3) and when you release, all chambered rockets fire in a tight spiral for big alpha damage. Maybe something similar could be done for the Striker? Chambering up to 6 rockets would be risky, but the payoff would be either big damage to a small area or area denial (similar to the Lancer).

    I pull the Striker when I really want to get enemy air out of the skies but haven't got the resources for a Burster MAX (or if I can't depend on allied ground troops to keep enemy infantry off me), or if there's clusters of enemy armor in the distance for me to plink at. And that's it.

    Stryker is good for searching a contested point for a stalker. Good for firing slower for CoF to reduce and get very long range hits with little guess work to the drop and changing elevation when you see a shot miss. Some rare people use ESF heavies with safe fall and shield to drop from higher heights. Sling some death as your ESF dies to an opponent who may be below 5 missiles worth in damage. Fighting from near ground of course. My favorite use is to farm air deterrence.

    Great video as always, I actually did not know that MBT's resist the striker rockets more so than sunderers and harrassers. I very heavily agree with you on giving the striker a coyote lock on for ground vehicles, though perhaps in a smaller radius than what it has for air vehicles.

    Like you said in your vid, the Lancer has long range pinpoint power, Phoenix can shoot around corners with the camera guide.
    The alt fire would be a good start for changing it up, but I would want to see the alt fire as a fragmenting type, long range mines or magnetized grenade type projectiles for land based vehical combat. sticks with the scheme of 'need many to be effective' and gives it more utility for infantry based conflict creating a 'denial zone' for some interior fights. might be too much like spamming grenades with 3+ strikers if it goes for a fragmenting style tho.

    +Wrel I have an idea. what about making it a ground mine layer? It would have an alternate fire mode that would stick the rocket to the ground as a mine wherever you pointed it. you don't even need to buff damage or any other aspect, really. it would be a pretty unique mechanic.

    +Wrel Just an extended comment after my initial reply. This is based on my most recent play with the Striker. I must have not gotten the memo about the aircraft tracking, after listening to Wrel's description and how to use it effectively I am picking up air kills that I would have missed previously.
    Still a boat load of fun, it's just more effective with critical info from Wrel, thanks for that.

    and wrel yeah, as usual(jk) TR has the short end on this regard... some of the ideas u mentioned are pretty cool. lock on ground would probably not be much(other than killing flashes) cause the low vehicle damage.
    gatekeeper tho.... cant complain much there >.>

    Good review - I was looking forward to this one so thanks for making it. One thing I have found with the striker though is that unlike regular launchers it can shoot out through spawn-room shields - much like you can with regular guns. Good for safely scaring off those drivers who like to camp your front door and pound everything that attempts to leave.

      Admittedly it's been a while since I played, but I remember my regular launchers just blowing up in my face whenever I tried to fire them through a spawn shield? If they all can then great ~

      9thgate Sometimes it's glitchy. I've had them blow up, but mostly when I'm too close to the shield. I think when that happens, the projectile spawns inside the shield and the shield coding makes it blow up.

    I think that maybe the heat seeking mechanic could apply to vehicles as well, and up the damage output a little. For me, I know that multiple rockets coming at you at the same time can be a great deterrent, even if there's a low damage output.

    Due to the amo capacity, if all rockets in the mag hits the target it does a total of 1200 damage, the same amount as one rocket from the dumb fire decimator

    Thanks for the review Wrel. It's been a while since I used the Striker and I just started again post buff. I wasn't aware the damage against vehicles was so dismal, but that's to be exected I guess. I have found that the good velocity you mentioned coupled with what feels like less drop than other dumb fire launchers give it some decent effectiveness against larger vehicle zergs that are a bit further away, so there's that I guess =).
    I still must agree though, overall it still feels a bit underwhelming compared to my Lancer. Great review as always!

    Let the Striker seek vehicles as well, the same way it does aircraft. That would make it one of the most fun and effective weapons around. Just fire behind a tank so rockets home in and shoot it in the back for decent damage.

    So, actually groups of striker can take down vehicles quickly due to the lock-on mechanic. So this weapon is actually very popular in chinese server.

    Great informative vid, I just subscribed to your channel! I have a question about when you said the T2 has a short and long reload time, what is the factor that determines your reload time?

      +Sergeant Gunny A "long reload" takes place whenever you have a completely empty magazine, whereas a "short reload" takes place when there's at least one round left in the magazine.

    sustained dps for shield sundies and being able to correct for whatever drop it might have while firing is pretty good. its probably the worst at killing infantry out of the empire rockets though.

    Lancer Is still pretty much the best rocket launcher since everyone has it and that pin point accuracy, rapid fire, extreme range. Another reason I think vs is over hyped to the point there OP as hell

    Some TR players can be so whiny sometimes, not just TR of course, but I digress; The Striker seems unique since it locks on and is maybe most effective at close quarters. It may need a slight buff, but I haven't thought much about it yet.

    I watch a 10 minute video on what I know is a garbage weapon/skill.
    He makes it look amazing.
    I go play the game ready to be a badass with said garbage.
    I get killed ten times by people with a variation of the name xiaoyuaingVS.
    I find myself Banshee farming for a good half hour.
    Go to bed.

    As ESF, when strafing fast and low, nothing really threatens me other than people with strikers. It is a really small niche though.

    The problem is that it is only good at taking out aircraft at close range, but other launchers do that better, if you have the skill. Mastering the decimator can make you devastating against anti-air. Many aircraft make the mistake of "suicide bombing" the ground with low health and thus are blasted out of the sky by skilled players wielding dumbfire missiles.

    Can't agree more that the TR got the raw end of the stick on their ES launcher. Both the lancer and the phoenix are superior in most circumstances, given that they are in the hands of equally skilled players.

      +John Parker I don't mind nerfs for sake of balance, but this wasn't a nerf, this was a complete rework on how the weapon functions. coyotte missiles wasn't why i bought the weapon. This is a different weapon, the original striker is gone - hence a refund is needed.

      +Forced G+ Account I would have to agree with this, as the same reason is why I purchased the Striker as well.
      I think the last saving grace for it would be to give it AA Launcher lock-on mechanics, instead of the proximity lock-on. That way, it could lock-onto air more reliably and still be valid for vehicles and light infantry suppression.
      I would be fine with giving my enemies plenty of warning for this change, which I would think be a decent enough balance for said tweak; plenty of time for them to react to it.

    Soo i mainly play VS and i love to fly the Scythe - not that i am good at it, but i try. And whenever i am dogfighting or strafing some sort of TR army, i find that i am often picked of by a striker when i am retreating to get repairs. I will take flak damage or a mosquito might damage me, so i break of and then i am sniped by a striker. It's kinda annoying since you don't get a lot of time to react since the lock-on is almost immediately followed up by you getting hit, but in other situations i just laugh at infantry using it since i can tank a lot of the hits.

    this thing has been bugged for months, (ever since the missile tracking bug) the missiles move way slower now.
    and 70% of the time they don't track unless the target is stationary. (but that could just be an issue with the crappy servers.)

    The only thing the Stiker has over the Lancer is anti-ESF capabilities. Other than that the Lancer is a direct upgrade in nearly every way shape and form.
    It is a weapon that pays way too high of a price for only a somewhat useful mechanic.

    I will say this is a better Striker than what got into the game when it first appared in PS2. Now it can be used to other stuff than air, and the air isnt horrible for EVERYTHING ELSE, yet it is still pretty useful. Good Work, Devs.

      +Zurakci's Gaming Channel Tell that to all the TR. Pre-patch, the Striker was very good, many people used it. I used it as my primary launcher. Now? Nobody uses it. My outfit used to have a dedicated crew of people who would go in and perform area denial to support the rest of the platoon(s). Now? That's fallen apart, because no one wants to deal with this thing anymore.
      Are you an NC or VS? If you are, then try to experience using it now yourself. Striker was one of my top weapons, now? It's fallen way behind.

      +Nie tutaj Trust me, an organized squad of 4 Strikers, an engie and a medic used to be able to lock down an area completely for enemy air. Now all it does is sometimes scare ESFs off.
      Also, didn't it use to be able to lock on ground as well? In any case, it's gone from broken to useless in most cases.

      The Dragoon I do have a Striker and I got it from when it came out. It was pretty unfair and unbalanced. Not like.. Shield scatter max or Raven max, but it was still rather unfair for TR and for NC and VS.

      +Zurakci's Gaming Channel what do you mean? before it could lock on GROUND and AIR.now we get coyote mechanic on a striker that is ONLY useful against air where in very specific situations.
      Sure it has dumbfire which means its only unique thing about it is either doing the valkyrie thing, able to hit esf most likely murdering you and in groups (assuming enemies are close enough for that).
      Only thing I will say though old striker was definately OP but as wrel said if they gave it a different firemode to fire all rockets out or increased how fast rockets shoot from it I may consider it right now its better but still far from being useful like the pheonix/lancer.

    Hey +Wrel, I wanted to talk about the factions in a non biased way, quickly and giving my opinions.
    TR traits are fast fire rate, low damage, slow reload.
    NC are High damage , low fire rate and idk medium reload ?
    VS are in between and have Fast reload speed and High accuracy .
    So the 2 traits of TR and NC contradict each other and have no other benefits. However VS does have high accuracy and fast reload , but at the cost of what? Damage or fire rate? No that depends on the weapon but let's roll with medium fire rate and medium damage like the solstice.
    TR & NC have one good trait but also another trait that will contradict it self , like High damage and slow fire rate for NC they cancel out each other and make a "medium" weapon.
    Where as VS has no trait that will contradict itself. So is it that VS have no traits that contradicts itself and the other 2 factions do have traits that contradicts themselves making the VS the "better faction" , or am I not aware of a bad trait or something that will change VS in my mind , I'm open for the change of my mindset , but this is what I thought about and it makes sense too me , If you want a high fire rate , you going to have to sacrifice damage where the VS sacrifices nothing ( or am I missing something )
    I might of repeated similar concepts and I apologise.

      That actually sounds about right. Good call. In Planetside 2 game balance, it's all about modifying some tiny attribute of ultimately the same gun to make it faction specific. Because of this, most of the game is played about the same, until you get out a faction specific item with a unique mechanic, like the vangaurd shield, or the shotgun MAXs. Then, massive cries of "OP" ring through the air. I've heard a ton of complaints from NC, claiming they have the weakest MAX. Why? Because it uses shotguns! It is GAWDAWFUL at range, completely forgetting that most objectives lie in small rooms where shotguns excel. Because in most of the gameplay, players play about the same across all factions, no one is really prepared to use their faction specific traits to the fullest, because they don't know where they excel.
      What the devs should do to fix most of the game balance and whining is to increase faction diversity. For example, that orbital spike idea to replace the VS Sunderer Wrel had in his Armchair Game Design series. Give each faction things that no other faction has. An idea for the TR: all units are faster than normal, including infantry and NS vehicles. The HA rocket launchers would be like the prowler main gun: two barrels, two shots till reload. The list of ideas goes on. Some would still scream unbalance, but perhaps they would find out that they do better with the NC game mechanics than the TR game mechanics.
      This lecture took inspiration from Starcraft.

      Starcraft has three factions, yet they are all still balanced. I believe this comes from the fact that each are entirely unique, and the only things that are similar cross-faction are resource gathering, having a headquarters as the start of the base, building an army, and there are air and ground units.

    for me as a pilot, fighting ground units with the striker is a pain... the coyotes mechanics are pretty powerfull right now vs A2G ESF's...

    there are players who use it against infantry and it kills you so fast in cqc. it's annoying as hell. especially when you're trying to sneak around to recapture points and they pop out of nowhere and kill you before you have a chance to react....

    AIM ASSIST ON PS4:
    This is off topic and its just something i wanted to share. I just assume alot of ps4 players might see this video and thats why i am posting this here. (i play on ps4)
    Aim assist on ps4 is a thing. Yes, and i didn't notice it for some time. I know it might seem as an advantage to ones who use it, and a disadvantage to ones who dont, but this is one weird thing ive learnt from it. its very subtle but very noticeable overtime.
    Now from what ive noticed aim assist can actually fairly correct your aim at long range engagements. At close range if your aim is VERY CLOSE to your opponents hit box, it will pull it towards the hit box. Yes it will surely feel like you have god like reflexes if you aim for the head while it corrects it. Again it is VERY subtle and will take time to notice. NOW YOU MAY THINK WHY SHOULD YOU CARE AS IT COULD SURLY BE SOMETHING EVEN YOU OR ANYONE CAN COME TO NOTICE OVER TIME.
    The reason why i posted this is because i have additionally noticed with my whole experience with aim assist that when i turned it off a lot of people simply couldn't hit me. FOR ANY PS4 PLAYERS WHO SEE THIS PLEASE TRY IT.

    I love this weapon. I love the minichaingun and i love the striker. 2 weapons that most tr consider to be crappy. Why is that? I mean for me the striker is as capable at taking down tanks. I did it a couple of times. Killed 2 lightning and a magrider last time i used it.

      +Rohnlex Come on striker is an amazing antiair weapon if not the best infantry anti air weapon right after dual burster.
      I think wrell is kind of wrong when he say that a high burst of damage anti air launcher is better. It remind me of a guy on APB who had this technic. Instead of shooting you with his sniper and finishing you with a pistol he would do the oposit. The technic was based on the fact that when you take a huge hit you often hide and recover. Something your don't nececarely do when you take a few minor hits. Well the guy was doing just that. He was shooting you a couple of time with his pistol just enough so that when he hit you with the sniper you die in 1 shot. You can do basically the same with the striker. Land a few shot on a esf, reload and then dump the mag on it. Chances are the ESF won't flee after a rocket or 2 and will realize his misstake only when it's too late. On planeside 2 you CAN'T take out an esf who doesn't make misstake. That technic with the striker is a way to push an esf to do misstake and it worked for me a couple of time.

    Eh, The Stryker is really a shitty annoyance more than anything. It needs to be either faster, or do more damage. ESF's are way too powerful for anything other than fak. The Burst fire seems like an awesome idea. And since it is a magazine weapon see it gain a 2-2.5 second reload. Basically the Stryker needs to be able to do a shocking amount of damage fast and before the enemy realizes it. If you have a floating esf, or MAX turned away from you. You should be able to (if you have some degree of accuracy) fire,reload, and fire before they really have a chance to turn or get away.

      ***** Couple problems with that, A the majority of people playing are solo or very small group casual players. The organization needed to make an AA group doesn't exist, and B even with two random people shooting at an ESF it will still have time to turn, kill both of you and just meander off. And With the Reaver and Scythe AI guns being so powerful, the Stryker needs to be the weapon that really makes pilots question if they want to try for a kill. The game still has particularly strange imbalances that for now all to often leave the infantry an as of now the TR at disadvantage without overwhelming number. It's just a basic fact, in how factions were designed and then "equalized".

    i dont think the striker is meh, not as good as it used to be but its my fav faction specific launcher people forget that yeah it only does 200 damage a rocket but it does 1200 in total and its no harder to hit a moving target then the standard dumbfire ok yeah u have to hit more rockets but its still easy to do it eats air alive easily and its very easy to mag dump it on a max before he can react and run away or just mini chaingun the max and win the fight people always complain about TR empire specific but i think the TR easily have the best empire specific weapons in the game lancer is good and i would put it on a par with the striker its just as easy to pre charge it and peak a corner but u can do that with the dumbfire as well just as easily the Phoenix yeah fun times shoot it from your spawn room or use it in the open to give some lone wolf infil a rampage on his recursion wile you stand there like a pleb getting killed and u cant peak corners with it and quickfire, when 2-3 guys are spamming rockets at a door from a striker no one wants to run into that, the striker is better against air then any other empire specific (unless your Lancer Mlg) and its better at spam killing sundy's at close to med range not to mention like wrel said from the back of a valk the thing is dam op it functions just like the minichain gun u walk into a room u mag dump something dies u run away or u shoot at a point and stop enemy's from going there same way the dam lasher functions and again the mini chaingun compared to the lasher and the jackhammer ok lasher stops people from running through doors but if u actually have to fight someone and your not mlg your gonna die jackhammer awesome at close range but u cant shoot it at a door and stop people using that door also it sounds like every other nc shotgun no one knows when your using the jackhammer unless they pick up the burst fire but again the mini chaingun sits in the middle nicely you can fight people with the mini chaingun without being mlg you can also shoot it at a door way and no one will run through that door also u can just out range the jackhammer (sorry nc) the mini chaingun not the best at range but u can normally shoot so many bullets down range u can kill someone anyway not to mention it sounds bad ass now your thinking this guy is obviously a TR player and you would be sorta right i play TR when my outfit is offline otherwise i play NC the most but still in my opinion the TR have better all rounder empire specific weapons then any other faction who's empire specific weapons you can only use in certain environments not to mention guys Max's hate mini chainguns it will 1 mag them unless they have a engi or the right armor (that 90% of max's dont because the c4 is real) anyway if you read this wall of text and agree or disagree i would love to know why and how the other empire specific weapons are better all rounders
    (also remember when the striker locked onto everything the forums were nothing but RAGE on how Op it was its still no less op it just requires you to aim now and maybe a little luck to hit long range targets)

    Wrel pls check back the damage of lancer on sunderers, it deals more dmg per rocket than a lock-on RL and has 8 total rockets available instead of 5, stop saying it's a team weapon because it's not...somewhere after your review they must have ninja-changed the resistance value of the sundy versus this weapon. Right now lancer is the best anti-sunderer infantry weapon.
