- This is an interesting wood, made more interesting by the spalting. Very easy to turn, sand and finish. Finished in shellac.

Phil, I love your quips, quotes, and pearls of wisdom. The bowl is very nice, also!
Tell you what, Phil… I like Black Tupelo! Pretty grain!
A beautiful marble cake with a nice bark icing!
It looks very much like a Native American birch bark bowl. Wonderful!
Thank you Phil and Larry!
What a treat you are for my Thursdays … that bowl is a real beauty❤
Did you see the face inside the bowl? Another beautiful piece of work. Have a great weekend and hope you're feeling good. 🥰
I saw the face!
Brother Phil, you are the Master of Live Edge Bowls!! So pleasing to see the final result💯 🙏🏼✌🏼
This bowl could be the poster child for wood spalting. Very nice bowl, it looks soooo smooth, and the figure from the spalting is really great. Thank you Phil, appreciate the time we spend together, until next week....Dan
Again, beautiful! I especially like the spalting!
Looks kind of like a football bowl, you might say it’s a super…bowl! 😊🏈
I also turn with my mask up. Saves time cleaning when you do it. Fantastic bowl. Shared with a friend.
The spalting added the character to this bowl. Turned out great! Thanks, Phil!
Beautiful looking bowl. ❤
Well Phil, out of all your pieces I think this is my favorite ❤ . It just grabbed me lol
Beautiful bowl Phil!!! Love the spalting.
Very nice bowl 🥣 Phil I like 👍 keep up good work Phil Thanks 😊 👍
Great turning, bark, spalting and finish. Come on Phil, mess up once in a while, be human like the rest of us.😂 Just kidding, Thursdays just wouldn't be the same without one of your turnings.😊
New wood species to me but what a visually splendid bowl out of it, spalting is Mother Natures gift to wood turners, good job Phil. 😁
😊 Beautiful bowl.
I do like watching you work Phil producing such a delicate little bowl and I appreciate you spending time with me 🌞
Thanks Larry looks very nice Phil.
I love spalting
Oh Golly, that spalting is truly amazing. What a sweet bowl ❤
Nice spalting...I like the thin walls!
Thank You Phil, Thank You Larry & Patricia Gault... Black Tupelo looks like very interesting wood. Especially the Spalted Black Tupelo. Very nice turning today Phil and it looks like you did not have to fight this wood at all. Always FUN & until next time... TM
Nice chunk of wood..nicer bowl.
The spalting really makes the piece strikingly beautiful-
Thanks for the good tip on the NR Scraper. Everything is helpful.
Very pretty bowl Phil, every piece and type of wood has its own particular beauty to me. And just FYI, I thought that little Tooth Fairy Box you made a couple weeks ago was so cool. Never saw those before you did that one.
So...I've been cranking those things out for our grandkids, other peoples kids and grandkids and they love them as much as bowls I give away! I laser the lids like you did and just finish them with Howard Feed & Wax. What a hit! Thanks for the idea!
That spalting added a whole different dimension to the wood. I think you were right when you said without it, it would be a pretty plain bowl. I like it very much. Cheers, Rick
Another beauty in the books Phil. I love the spalting and the design you chose to make it. Thanks as always for sharing! 👍🏾
It's very pretty. ❤
Bravo Phil 🥳 content de revoir tes vidéos 👍👋
Thanks to Larry. Pretty piece. I like seeing wood that is unfamiliar to me. I end up doing research on them. I like that.
Hello Phil. Wow wow absolutely love it. Great job!!!!!
The grain in it is awesome. Great job Phil and thanks to Larrt and Mrs. Larry. 🎉
Another beauty, Phil 👍
The spalting really makes it special 😀
Lovely job, and it's nice to get an "easy" one for a change 😅
Very nice Phil
Hi Phil Yes, I do love the spalting and the subtle grain. The inside of the bowl is a bit more interesting but it will make a nice gift or addition to your collection
Take care Bob
That's a new wood for me, nice turning Phil.
I plainly see a face in your bowl, super nice and enjoyable to watch, thanks Phil
Really nice, Phil. The wood speaks for itself.
Bill
Another lovely bowl, making the most of what Nature provided for you to work with - The Master!
What a Beautiful Bowl! Great Job Phil.
That's some lovely wood you revealed 'for all to see.' Thanks!
Beautiful live edge bowl, Phil. 😊
Howdy Phil from Lincolnshire UK 🇬🇧
I absolutely love turning and/or working with spalted wood. Beautiful job.
That's a beautiful bowl.
Stunning!!!
Wowsers Phil. Beautiful spalting shown off in a beautiful bowl.
Mighty fine looking wood, Phil! Really nice turning, too! In Alabama, where I grew up, we just called it Tupelo. Probably because our slow speech and accent only allows for so many words per sentence...
Wow that's a beautiful piece of wood and as usual you made it even better. Guess I will have to go south this winter and get some.😂 One of the prettiest woods I have ever seen.
Always a pleasure being able to watch your skillful turning - thanks for posting
The spalting looks like a child's artwork on the wall when Mom isn't looking. lol Those long curls are only achieved with a very sharp gouge. I agree that the wood turned well. A gorgeous result, Phil.
Howdy Phil, That Black Tupelo sure is pretty. Very interesting grain & spalting pattern. It looked good with the lacquer finish. It looked like it cut easily enough for you. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley
The inside looks like a landscape with a lake in the middle. Very nice ❤
Beautiful.
Wow, what a stunner! You knocked it out of the park with this one. A pleasure as always.😊
Gorgeous!!
Not only a cool name for the wood but a very cool looking turning Phil. Gotta love all that spalting.
Those shavings peeled off like 3 day old sunburn. Without the pain LOL
Great job my friend,
Gary
Beautiful!
That is a very pretty piece Phil. The wood is just beautiful. Thank you for sharing. See you next week. Be good
Very pretty bowl Phil with beautiful spalting, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Beautiful and as always great work and great video
Love all the different woods. This one is very pretty. 👍👍👍
Really nice turning to bring about the best features
I loved the angle you had with all the curls covering your hand. You always seem to bring something new to the table. Much appreciated!
Beautiful ❤
Very nice bowl and it sure looked like a joy to turn. Love seeing those ribbons coming off the gouge.
Thanks for sharing!
I've wished I could own many of your creations, but this one especially. It is extra special 💕
The thing I like about watching your videos is the different species of wood that you turn. I know the different species in Ohio but not the rest of the country. The colors look amazing. Thanks again, Phil, for sharing with your TH-cam family
Real nice one Phil!
Wow! Gorgeous spalting! That’s really special.
🥰
WOW! Love the black whatever it is. When you were working on the bottom, the wood looked like modeling clay it was so smooth. Nice job Phil....again!
Thats a gorgeous bowl Phil!
gorgeous spalting, love that you were able to go so thin it makes the bowl look more striking.
beautiful piece.
Thank you Larry AND Patricia! The spalt makes the piece, including that fat lipped face on the inside bottom. Nice job turning it relatively thin, too. My book says oil finish will darken this wood. So if you have another piece, you might try an oil finish on it for a different look.
Beautiful, great job Phil! You are very inspiring.
Nice wood different for sure. I like the darker strip in the bottom of the inside. I agree it looks like it turned with ease. Nice bowl I’m glad you kept the bark edge although I wished it was a little bit thicker. That’s just me 😀.
Thanks for the show.
Joel
Beautiful wood and turning
Beautiful piece of wood Phil. That spalting really makes a statement. At 20:11, the spalting in the upper left kind of resembles cave drawings. That is a great looking bowl.
Love it. Very nice looking piece of wood
It is very beautiful.
really pretty -- well done like always by a great teacher
Very nice spalting.great turning.👍
Could almost feel it through the screen, well done.
Phil, your skill with a bowl gouge is always impressive. I look forward to your video every week. Best wishes from Ohio.
That wood is beautiful!
I enjoyed spending time with you tonight Phil! The bowl turned out so nice. The spalting gives it a rustic look that I really like and the shape is perfect. Thanks for another great video. Be well.
Rustic. Yes. I was searching for the right word. You got it!
WOW what a beautiful bowl Phil it kind looks Americab Indian
What a unique piece of wood. And you made a beautiful bowl.
Phil that wood is amazing, what a beautiful bowl that made. Think about how many jelly beans it would hold!
I'll never tire of beautiful spalting like this. With so many wood species I've never heard of its easy to feel overwhelmed or under-prepared with all there is to know with wood-turning. Considering where I was a year ago to now I think time will really cure the above feeling though :)
Thanks for the beautiful piece this week Phil!
It’s a beauty
What no hidden creatures? I saw a beach in Costa Rica!
Lovely piece!
I have NEVER heard of Black Tupelo wood but with all the spalting in it, the finished bowl is quite stunning. Right from the first cut you could see & almost feel that the wood was turning VERY well, so like you, I am not sure where the 'difficult' concept came from. Lets put the enormous success of this piece down to 'Phil Skill', because I like to think of it that way. Great piece, great skill & great finish, who could ask for more when spending quality time with yourself. Thanks mate & cheers from Don in South Aust.
That’s a really pretty wood. I think the splaying makes it.
Beautiful bowl Phil. Looks like it is mostly sap wood. With the heart wood being the dark tan in the bottom of the bowl. I would love to see the other piece of it. Turned so we could see more of the heart wood. Love the shape though. Great work.
Phil , as usual , a fine piece ! That looked like so much fun to turn ! Like you said , you usually don't get such a fun turning . . I wish I could get out to my shop . Snow and very cold down here . Thanks for sharing and we hope you have a great weekend and week ahead .
Very nice. I always like it when you turn a simple form and let the wood be the star
