Man, late Brookside was grim. There's some good stuff here, but it's way too heavy. In its final couple of years, it seemed to have only two speeds; turtle or supersonic. When it tried to be more everyday, it was dull. When it tried to ramp up the sensationalism, it was too much to enjoy. Somehow, at its height it was able to deal with really dark content by balancing it out with the lighter stuff. But this is tough to watch.
@@crafte164 it declined real bad during its final four or five years. As much as I loved Brookside at its peak, I wouldn't want it to return. It would never be the same show. The ship has sailed, it ended at the right moment and I'd prefer it remain as a legend of its time.
It was finished as soon as Channel 4 started hiding it away on Saturday afternoons. Redmond should’ve just pulled it and fought out the contract issue in court.
I think Channel 4 were keeping him sweet by proposing to increase the number of episode of Hollyoaks to five nights a week. Absolutely no doubt that once they pulled it from primetime, it was game over. It should never have ended its run in graveyard slots. Absolutely iconic show, Channel 4 should have given it a big fond farewell with a special night devoted to the final episode and one or two shows celebrating its 21 years and marking the end of the series. Basically, the exact type of thing they did for Big Brother when it ended on Channel 4. Pitiful treatment, it deserved way better.

I liked it the storylines went into proper serious stuff witch made it more realistic story's what the soap needed.
It was no different to EastEnders. I'd love it to come back it was better or at least as good as the soaps still on TV.

They did a fantastic job making Emily one of the most unlikeable characters on the show, then they play 'sad' music when she dies?!
