Thank you! I was also hesitant to incorporate black into my designs for that reason, but now I love using darker colors for contrast. And as you mentioned, with the right lighting, darker colors can look great!

a small room is small, black doesn't make it small. I love the use of black or a very dark graphite grey on walls. my go to shade. (Black is not a colour, neither is White. They are shades and tints.)

You nailed this makeover, I love it. Only tweak I would've done would've been to include "night stand" cubbies for the beds up top. Using some of that dead space below the septic line, I would make some box inserts into the wall between the outlet and the life saver floatation device, giving them a spot up top to place whatever they plug into the outlet, like how the queen bed has the shelf with the outlets.

I love so much about this! The aesthetic, the big bed on the floor level, with all the additional sleep space. I think my only change would be having wood steps. Pipes are fine for ladders when I've got shoes on, but can be hard on bare feet.

Was an exciting way to watch each part of the tear down and new ‘construction’ take place. Thx much for the seemingly ‘speed of lightening’ move super quick. Much preferred over real time in many other projects. The design with the upper beds was a winner. Also, like the roominess in the new bedroom. No doubt whoever occupies the spot will totally enjoy!! Thank you! We replaced the carpet just before this reno so we don’t plan on changing it anytime soon. You can replace the flooring and just shim the few points where the bed touches the ground. Also, I think cutting the carpet out from under bed before starting the build would have led to more headaches. I would need to install a ton of tack strips on top of the concrete subfloor which is never fun.

Love the build and the desk. I personally would turn that bed into a Murphy bed and have the cabinets go all the way up. And I'd turn one side into a book shelf that swings open.

I love, love, love this room. One thing though. The carpet. you built everything on top of it. So If you ever want to change it out for other flooring.... that could be a real pain. Love that you used the wood on the ceiling..... 1,000% better than that acoustical drop ceiling that was there before

I love the transformation!!! I’ve never seen your channel, but I just subscribed! My only change would be to create an inset nook for each of the upper beds, for people to be able to set their phones/iPad down or a book…whatever people usually put on nightstands. Having an inset outlet would also be awesome too, so you’re not sleeping with charging cords in your way. And the space is already there, behind the wall and below the pipe. That is literally the only change I would make - I absolutely love the whole room!!

If you get a lot of visitors you might want to look into some diffusors for the few LED strips. To my knoledge paper, spaced roughly 1cm off the strip with a basic encasing works wonders preventing the rough lights. Props for the room make over, fron germany.
Thank you! I actually did use diffusers on the top bunks. I installed the LEDs inside black metal rails with a slightly frosted white diffuser. Makes a huge difference! For the LEDs on the lower bed it wasn’t necessary as the wood strips I installed basically act as diffusers. Thanks for watching!
Cool beans... but think about it, If you ran the bunks along the wall but still up high, then you could have made the queen bed a MURPHY BED, and then had vertical space behind it for a stand up closet. Long term storage under one bed and entrance to the closet under the other.. Nice work , really cool
Looks great! Some thoughts: Those pipes are going to be uncomfortable for bare feet to climb. I'd suggest a ladder rebuild with wood and re-purposing the old ladder parts to make a couple of folding luggage racks. Throw a half dozen additional hangers onto the hanging space, and all luggage management needs will be met. To make the room more welcoming: A wall mirror on the wall opposite the windows, to both increase light and provide a place for guests to check their appearances. A throw rug, a slimline upholstered armchair, and an ottoman using colors already in the room would be amazing, if you can fit them in. A place to sit that isn't the bed not only makes the room more classy and comfortable, it can also make a world of difference to older and/or less physically able guests to have options on where to sit when trying to manage their footwear.

This looks nice, I will most likely use this as inspiration when I remodel my daughter's basement. What I have issue with is the fact that you installed wood on top of carpet, my OCD is going crazy right now.... Also, for noise mitigation I would have installed fiberglass batts in the ceiling to deaden the floor above.

Huge transformation! Awesome to see start to finish. - That door falling at 3:04 was so satisfying haha - Not the planer! That's definitely the route i would've gone to first, assuming scraping was out of the question for that much wood. I have my eye on one as well. Glad the wood worked out in the end. I love the wrapping going wall/ceiling/wall with drywall on the sides. - Love the 8:21 drywall hit on beat. Too much fun to edit those in. - So many small details that were well thought out (small trim pieces, electrical for bunk beds, blocking for pipe "handles" - The lighting/focus/audio on your last shots of you sitting on the bed looked excellent and a big step up production quality wise. Maybe it's just the lighting in the room, but it was well done. Hard to incorporate that with seeing the project throughout a video, but it feels very professional. - What do you use for LED switches? I haven't really played with them but have a project they'll fit nicely into.

I honestly may have had a malfunction with my planer because it saw SO slow. Regardless, it had to be returned. But, I may still buy one in future when I have another project that requires it - Glad you caught that. I spent a lot time on sound design for this video. I tried my best to make the music beats line up nicely with the video. If done well, most viewers don't even consciously notice, but still appreciate the quality of the production - The thinking ahead aspect is probably the hardest part of each project for me. It takes a lot planning and forethought. You have to pretty much have the design locked in from day 1 of the project which makes things stressful, but it usually turns out very nice in the end - You have a good eye! I actually upgraded cameras/lenses. The majority of the video was shot with my 10 year old entry level Nikon. The ending was shot on my new Sony A7IV with a nice wide angle lens. I also got new wireless mics and gimbal! I used the gimbal on some of the b roll shots. This purchase has been a long time coming and I'm excited to increase the production quality of the videos moving forward! - I used standard switches (not anything LED specific). The key is that you get an LED driver. You run your 120v line to the driver and that outputs a low enough voltage to power the LEDs. As long as you use a driver, you can use any switch. I linked the one I used in the description. Dimmable drivers are usually much more expensive FYI, but I think they are worth the cost Thanks again for watching and commenting!

I would've done some alternating tread stairs instead of ladders. And maybe would've done a double-double with under-bed desks/wardrobes and a center staircase.

Terrific, so well done! No bars for bare feet I couldn’t even use it (looks cool though) and need someplace upstairs for your water or phone or eyeglasses or pills or retainer or… you know. Small shelf or cubby hole.
This was just a great makeover. Only thing I would change is for the upper bed, to just have one long flush bed/mattress that would go all the way across instead of having two / or have 2 but no gaps. This would allow for taller and shorter people to share the space up there sleeping on opposite sides. Very well done
Thank you! I agree, but I would have had to have a custom mattress built for that to work. Mattresses only come in certain sizes and 2 twins worked best with only about a 5” gap in between
@@GoldenKeyDesign I like the gap, as a tall person I'm used to my heels sticking out past the end of the mattress, which just feels normal to me.... however two teenage boys might not like their feet touching!!!!
The gap might also help if one person moves around in their sleep. It will prevent movement from traveling to the other mattress. Also changing bed sheets would be a lot tougher.
tip for planing i know it take a while but i usualy run two boards thru at the same time with a decent cut nothing too deep were the planer starts struggling
Nicely done! Admittedly, it wouldn't be my personal preference for color palette (I tend to lean more towards either pale white-ish wood tones if I'm not painting wood or a pale grey driftwood-ish stain, along with cool blue range color tones with a single warm pop of either red or orange sprinkled around) but it still turned out really nice. As for the wood boards, try some bleach on the wood you deemed too dirty. You might be surprised.

This looks nice, I will most likely use this as inspiration when I remodel my daughter's basement. What I have issue with is the fact that you installed wood on top of carpet, my OCD is going crazy right now.... Also, for noise mitigation I would have installed fiberglass batts in the ceiling to deaden the floor above.

Thanks! And I added insulation around the pipe so you don’t hear it. Also, when people are sleeping, no one will be using toilets/sinks/showers anyway

- That door falling at 3:04 was so satisfying haha
- Not the planer! That's definitely the route i would've gone to first, assuming scraping was out of the question for that much wood. I have my eye on one as well. Glad the wood worked out in the end. I love the wrapping going wall/ceiling/wall with drywall on the sides.
- Love the 8:21 drywall hit on beat. Too much fun to edit those in.
- So many small details that were well thought out (small trim pieces, electrical for bunk beds, blocking for pipe "handles"
- The lighting/focus/audio on your last shots of you sitting on the bed looked excellent and a big step up production quality wise. Maybe it's just the lighting in the room, but it was well done. Hard to incorporate that with seeing the project throughout a video, but it feels very professional.
- What do you use for LED switches? I haven't really played with them but have a project they'll fit nicely into.

- Yeah, scraping would have taken ages too. I honestly may have had a malfunction with my planer because it saw SO slow. Regardless, it had to be returned. But, I may still buy one in future when I have another project that requires it
- Glad you caught that. I spent a lot time on sound design for this video. I tried my best to make the music beats line up nicely with the video. If done well, most viewers don't even consciously notice, but still appreciate the quality of the production
- The thinking ahead aspect is probably the hardest part of each project for me. It takes a lot planning and forethought. You have to pretty much have the design locked in from day 1 of the project which makes things stressful, but it usually turns out very nice in the end
- You have a good eye! I actually upgraded cameras/lenses. The majority of the video was shot with my 10 year old entry level Nikon. The ending was shot on my new Sony A7IV with a nice wide angle lens. I also got new wireless mics and gimbal! I used the gimbal on some of the b roll shots. This purchase has been a long time coming and I'm excited to increase the production quality of the videos moving forward!
- I used standard switches (not anything LED specific). The key is that you get an LED driver. You run your 120v line to the driver and that outputs a low enough voltage to power the LEDs. As long as you use a driver, you can use any switch. I linked the one I used in the description. Dimmable drivers are usually much more expensive FYI, but I think they are worth the cost

I would've done some alternating tread stairs instead of ladders. And maybe would've done a double-double with under-bed desks/wardrobes and a center staircase.

Terrific, so well done! No bars for bare feet I couldn’t even use it (looks cool though) and need someplace upstairs for your water or phone or eyeglasses or pills or retainer or… you know. Small shelf or cubby hole.
This was just a great makeover. Only thing I would change is for the upper bed, to just have one long flush bed/mattress that would go all the way across instead of having two / or have 2 but no gaps. This would allow for taller and shorter people to share the space up there sleeping on opposite sides. Very well done
Thank you! I agree, but I would have had to have a custom mattress built for that to work. Mattresses only come in certain sizes and 2 twins worked best with only about a 5” gap in between
@@GoldenKeyDesign I like the gap, as a tall person I'm used to my heels sticking out past the end of the mattress, which just feels normal to me.... however two teenage boys might not like their feet touching!!!!
The gap might also help if one person moves around in their sleep. It will prevent movement from traveling to the other mattress. Also changing bed sheets would be a lot tougher.

The only change I would make (and it looks fabulous!) is paint that vent the same color as the wall.
You could put a small 2 seater sofa or fouton on the wall near the room door. Or another table unit.
tip for planing i know it take a while but i usualy run two boards thru at the same time with a decent cut nothing too deep were the planer starts struggling

Nicely done! Admittedly, it wouldn't be my personal preference for color palette (I tend to lean more towards either pale white-ish wood tones if I'm not painting wood or a pale grey driftwood-ish stain, along with cool blue range color tones with a single warm pop of either red or orange sprinkled around) but it still turned out really nice. As for the wood boards, try some bleach on the wood you deemed too dirty. You might be surprised.
