You mentioned having more routers than anybody needs. I remember watching a video a long time back where the host asked "How many routers do you really need??? How many router bits do you own???". I'm not going to get that crazy, but I do own 6 so far. 18:06 You can build a simple jig (similar to a mortising jig) for cutting those dados, and very easily prevent kickback like what you experienced here. Dado stacks like to eat a lot of wood, and as a result, can be quick to kick. The jig you build can securely hold your 2X_ material with a toggle clamp or two. Are the frames you are building for a Long Langstroth box??
Jointer bit my thumb yesterday. Luckily just nicked it ha ha. I stopped for a minute to check that all my thumb was still there. Took a little break afterwards.
Lost 3 fingers on a jointer while using push sticks. Have many years working with wood and thought I was being extra careful. It was so fast it took me a minute to realize what had just happened. I realize that you have lots of experience with your tools but that is when the accidents happen. Please be careful and don't end up like me... it is not worth it!! Other than that great video. Lol thanks! An as a retired Farmer/Electrician I needed a hobby besides the wood shop so 3 years ago I got Into Bee's an since on a budget now days nothing better to do so I build my hives an frames. But I got to say never thought about a interlock box! Can not tell you how many male an female plugs I have replaced over the years from unplugging an plugging back in for safety. GREAT IDEA!!! Back in the day I wired the shop I all 10 ( the old school 10ga which is equivalent to modern day 8 ;-) ) But thanks for the ideas!
This is a 1978 model year Craftsman table saw that has been extensively modified, then upgraded to a 3 hp motor, Vega fence that has been customized, and a custom cabinet with built in dust collection, router table, and router lift.
In the "off season", and to get you in the woodshop, your time is your own. A frame for a dollar each is too expensive. If you don't have to buy the wood, all you need is the time to make hundreds of frames. My labor costs me nothing. If you don't agree, well have at it. I can control the quality of the parts.
Quite true and since I make these from free scrap, my cost is very minimal. I find this relaxing, and since it is for me, and not for sale, I do not count labor time.
i love the batch cut idea! But seeing you keep all that crap on your table saw fence stresses me out 😁.... To each their own; you appear to still have all 10 digits. great video
I Donno if it could work for me tho …I often run just my pinky finger along the top/inside of my fence during the cut Probably as a way to locate the position of my other fingers . Donno
If you make your top dado 7/16" deep and make your top bar 1/2" thick, your overall dimension will not be the prescribed 9-1/8". The top bar will lie proud by 1/16" so that your overall height is 9-3/16".
roger.........PLEASE take the time and make a jig.......i do make the frames with about 100 hives.............PLEASE MAKE A JIG.......i dont want to watch a bloody accident .

Why not use a stop on the joiner and use a pushblock to keep your hands away from the cutter ?

When cutting the strips, would a thin strip jig work as well, instead of having that 3/8 strip between the blade and fence?

When you were using push sticks how did you lose fingers?
Could you do a video on how you have the control box for you saw set up. Would like to fix mine that way.

Make a saw jig for the tapers. There are plans available from at least one fellow with dado set up.
Great info! What is the length of the bevel/taper for mediums and deeps?
Length of upper portion (not beveled) is 3-1/2" for deeps and 2-5/8" for mediums

Why do you say don't use eastern red cedar
Scent as it seems bees don't care for it. Western red Cedar works well, though, but is rather soft.

Keeps everything, especially push sticks, handy, and it never gets in the way.
