Holden's last resort with the antenna is what engineers and machinists call "percussive maintenance," and sometimes, it is the only thing that does work.
Percussion maintenance was a thing with older PCs with spin drives. My dad's old computer tended to get stuck with the hard disks parked. Giving it a good smack would knock them loose. Of course the drive was going to lose sectors due to head impact eventually, but it let him recover critical data then cripple the machine along another two years before finally replacing it outright instead of buying just a new HDD.
In the first episode, another Belter pointed out that Miller had bone spurs at the top of his spine due to growing up in low gravity and not getting the best medical cocktails to prevent the development of skeletal anomalies like this.
Amos Burton presents as a survivor of childhood abuse with flat emotional affect who looks to others to provide a moral compass that he knows he does not have (such as Naomi).
I did not get all of that from the first few episodes, even though there were hints. But I caught on eventually. The actor who played Amos was a master at subtle expression.
The "reality" is that most of the incoming ice is being transhipped to Earth or Mars, with limited disbursements on Ceres or the other asteroids (including Eros, Juno, and Vesta). The Canterbury was an Earth-owned ship even if it docked at Ceres.
Ejecting the ice would have done two things - reduced the Cant's mass, making it easier to accelerate away, and possibly act as a shield between a non-nuclear torpedo and the Cant. Neither of those things would have mattered.
In case nobody's mentioned it before, this story began as a home-made role-playing game. The creators of the game went on to make it a successful novel series, and those authors are in the screenwriting room. The main characters are from the RPG and have some of the standard RPG roles. One is a Paladin, one is a Fighter, one is a Wizard, one is a Bard, et cetera. The OPA is the Outer Planets Alliance...the Belters. Its made of all kinds of people: politicians, true believers, thugs, terrorists, et cetera. Think of the Irish Republican Army or the Palestinian Liberation Organization. When Alex was hypoxic, he was mumbling an argument with someone who didn't want him to go out on another trip. Notice that he carries a photo of a woman and child. These small things are significant to the plot of this show.
Nope. No one has mentioned the fact that this started as an RPG. I'm surprised that you're the first one to drop that nugget of trivia. The idea of people playing this as a game actually made me crack a smile. Thanks for that. :)
Miller pours the unused water back into the carafe because he IS a Belter and recognizes that water must be rationed, even if the Governor from Earth does not.
@@pssthpok, it shows someone who has not grown up in the Belt, giving anyone a particular mindset regarding finite resources like water and air. Even Miller recognizes that.
So glad to see another reactor to "The Expanse"! This is imo the best tv series ever made, regardless of genre, it's brilliant. At the very least the best hard sci-fi show, and definitely the best live action adaptation of any book series, whether it be in film or tv. The Lord of The Rings trilogy was brilliant, same for the new Dune movies, but i still this this is the best adaptation due to it being extremely faithful to the source material while simultaneously adding in new elements that legit improves on the source material. I don't want to overhype it, but that's just how good i think this show is, hope you enjoy it!
Deputy Undersecretary for UN Intelligence Chrisjen Avasareal is a canny political operator who knows how far she can go to accomplish her duties and will push it to the line.
Two more until the brakes come off. Like Andor the first few episodes are a bit of a slog - setup of world, characters, conflicts that requires patience.
@@flowstatereactionsthey had to restart a bit because the show got cancelled in S3 so S4 has to get the ball rolling again. S5 is mostly about cashing in all that setup and it is the wildest ride which is saying something because S3 is pretty hairy.
We're actually done with the series so no one can spoil anything in the comments. I just finished uploading Season 5, Episode 2 "Churn" on Patreon yesterday. I don't mention it in the comments often, since most folks are here for a quick reaction, not full-length videos.
I have seen reacting to The Expanse raise sub levels on DOZENS of reactor’s channels by between 200 and 2000 subscribers! BUT we Screamin Firehawks tend to have Belta mindsets similar in many ways to the OPA members. We will launch your channel into the stars for reacting to The Expanse…BUT WE WILL NOT JOIN for a “inna-lowda tax.” NOT EVEN IF YOU CUT OFF OUR WATER RATIONS. So if you want the Expanse Bump, FREE OUR FEEDS !!!

The Fonz approves.

The fact that you know who the Fonz is makes me smile :)
Agreed lol
Lmao @ "percussion maintenance" I love it

Ok, thanks for that. I still missed it even during editing.

I think it's a travesty to have Belters mining ice and then giving them limited disbursements. WTH?

I always thought of it as a 'fuck you' to someone who is showing off their wealth by having open water on the table.

Very interesting point of view. I thought he was being an asshole, but I prefer your perspective.
@@flowstatereactions, Miller is a burned-out cop (like Dirty Harry) who has been given a chance at moral redemption.

Thank you so much. I loved everyone minute of this show. Absolutely mesmerizing visual effects and intriguing dialogue and thrilling plot lines.

Yes indeed. What a stellar performance from her. She was so damn believable in this role.
Why is his spine like that? They told you in the lunch bar last episode.
They told me a million things last episode lol
Avasarala is fiddling around with pistachio nuts she carries around in her purse and is always munching on (a nod to the books)
