Honestly, "too powerful" is not a thing if used properly. A completely OP robot/superpower/etc can be used in a dramatic and satisfying way when bad guys were winning for a while and all hope seems lost. Night is darkest before the dawn. Alternately, it can be used as in Getter Robo manga - for "reverse cosmic horror" effect.

Both sides has been shown, in the original manga when kouji uses mazinger for the first time he destroyed cities and if not mistaken even killed people in that rampage, mazinkaiser only attacked the lab. Its not the appearance of the mech it is who is piloting it, the human soul in it. Other example when mazinger is taken from Ashura in mazinkaiser series.. he was at then a demon, part of dr.hells army. Every robot can be good or evil no matter what he looks like. :) And by the way chris F bloody things are now common, even marvel and dc heroes are a little bloody these days which means alot. Although Gundam dosent have that much of weak robots, well yea compared with super robots they are nothing but they are not thaaaat weak.
Everyone has their own tastes, if you meant "mazinkaiser is better than grendizer in animations" it's like you are comparing the batman of the 70s with the batman of the trilogy, but story-wise you have to admit that grendizer had better characterization and plot, mainly because of the number of episodes. So yeah, they aren't easy to compare and each one has their pro and cons

Yes, now in the animated series the Nagai's robot bled. But if you have read Mazinger Z also in the original story the robot had bled,for example there's a scene when a enemie cut an arm of Aphrodite and seems like he cut an arm of a person. The fact is that Nagai is attached with the splatter
