Lots of very wise advice, Pavlin. Thank you for sharing them. I like to turn every gas fill-up time into time to do a few minutes of stretching too. Frequent stretching makes long rides much more manageable for me. I also like to place my attention on my breathing, every so often, to still my thinking. To feel the ride is much more pleasurable to me than to think through it.

I believe a lit of it is i your head. If the day does not seem to be going well I can always remind myself i could be at work or just simply that I am healthy enough to be riding my bike. Wherever I want, largely whenever I want. Not everyone is so lucky.
And then even a cold wet day with bike problems doesn't seem so bad.
So much to look forward to as things improve and we can travel again.
    Happy travels

That was very logical. Usually, I do not consider watching videos where guys who blabber, roaming around on their bikes.
    But this was different, insightful.
    Thank you!

Thanks! This will help me on my 10,000 mile trip coming soon. Plan A = don’t die! Plan B = survive today. Short answer, take everyday as a singular event with one goal in mind, leading to the ultimate goal of your destination.
Physically, do a lot of stretching, before during and after. Break it up and try to eat the right foods.

Agreed. Pushups, pullups, situps you can do them anywhere and include some light stretching. Even during the day, stop on the side of the road for piss break, spend extra two minutes and strech, bang out a few pushups, jumping jacks, squats, whatever you like. Also stay hydrated, have earplugs or music to get rid of the monotonous noise of wind and you'll be good. Good point about mental health but I have yet to see a depressed biker

I haven't watched the full video yet, but this is a very underrated topic. I passed my motorcycle test just before Coronavirus restrictions were introduced in 2020 so haven't been able to ride much (maybe 6000km total). The weather is improving so I'm going out on my bike more and I find I need a couple of days to recover physically and mentally from a long day in the saddle!

Agree that for adventure bikes, practicing on surfaces with a variety of traction is really important. The very point of riding one is to be able to ride all types of roads. Not the best at anything BUT can do all of it reasonably well. Good tips!

  • @jothain

Good solid points there. These advices seem very reasonable and easy to follow. One thing about "mentality fatigue" of riding is simple, which actually affects the physical side too. You have to be confident with the vehicle you ride. Let it be bike, quad or heck even car. If you know how it behaves everything will just so-to-say "flow". But if one is insecure it'll affect everything in very fatiguing way. I'd urge everyone to push their limits in reasonable and safest ways from time to time. But I wouldn't personally ever try that on long trips. I don't usually ride long distances, but if I ride ie. half day on snow with bike, which I've not done too much. I can honestly say that I would be fatigued in every possible way for week. It would definitely ruin trip for me.

Mental strength is the important one in my book, if the body is weak the mind has to be strong.
A good helmet and ear plugs go a long way to prevent fatigue and listening to music or even podcasts can relieve the boredom of a long ride.
It also help if you set small targets, aim for the town 30 kilometres away and the next and the next not the one 200 kilometres away, small bites at a time.
    Great advice again PavLin. 👍👍👍👍👍

Great video and thanks for commenting on something important: you have to practice on unfamiliar roads. Long-term goal is to train your mind to accurately figure out roads, surfaces, conditions, terrain, etc that you have not experienced before. One of the bad habits that new riders sometimes do is to ride familiar places only in nice weather and with their friends. We need to keep pushing ourselves in the other direction - new places, new roads, different routes.

I can confirm that you are 100% correct. I am very fit from weights and can pick up the 800GS no problem. It helps with brute force and slow speeds.
But...I dread going on the highway because of how incredibly exhausting it is! In my defense, highways and drivers in Texas are very high speed, aggressive, and strong winds.

If You practice on asphalt roads, and You go to desert, Your fitness will be to weak..Anyway its better to have more fitness than its needed, than to less fitness. Good job with Your chanell. Take care!!!

I disagree on the personal fitness part. You are correct nobody needs to run a marathon or lift a ton of weights or have the physiqe of Arnold. What you need is a general reasonable baseline of personal fitness and a minimum of stamina. Riding a motorcycle for a longer pegiod of time is exhausting mentally and physically especially when you ride lets say 4 or 5 days in a row in adverse conditions, be it hot weather or pouring rain. I have personally gone through that riding a couple of thausand km across the balkans weighing 135 kg and later 115. The difference of the personal wellbeing on the trips was astronomical. I am not saying everyone has to lose x amount of weight. Most people have pretty seditary lifestyles, sitting in cars and before computer screens all day. If you have a life like that and then go on a long trip it will be very hard for you. My personal advice in this regard is to take up a moderate amount of exercise, nothing olymic or super crazy, which will help you to build a decent level of stamina. Cardio exercises will most certainly help with that and if you put in a moderate overall weight routine even better. Motorcycling is definitely more emanding on your body than just sitting in the seat for hours at end.
