I was ordering wood flooring in Canada during the pandemic and the flooring supplier said there was a shortage so the lead time will be longer. I asked “we’re in Canada, how are we short on wood?” The sales rep told me “We’re not short on wood, but we need to send the wood to China to be glued and pressed, then shipped back to Canada to be stained. And shipping was backed up globally.” I was baffled that we lacked the facilities in Canada to do such simple things…
Same with oil refineries. Im like htf so we not have our own refineries?! And people are like. They cost billions to make! MF we sent billions to ukraine and islamic countries regularly.Vancouver BC alone is spending billions just to do this weird subway thing for 10 blocks right down the middle of Broadway, completely shutting traffic down for like 5+ years.
Previous liberal governments creating regulations that keep moving our industry offshore. But that sounds like the company can do it cheaper in china vs canadian labour
Not only that but we don’t have our own oil refinery. We could have gas at 50 cents a litre but by the time it’s sent to the us refined and sent back to us (not before we gets taxed on OUR OWN GAS) it’s 1.50$
When I was a kid, everything we had in America was made in America. Large & small appliances, furniture & lamps, all household items, clothing, cosmetics & personal care. EVERYTHING! Repair shops for everything were everywhere. We made cars and you could buy Japanese or European cars, but at a higher cost. You could buy most anything imported if you wanted it and paid the higher price. All has been gone for decades and so are all the jobs. When we had them, anyone needing a job could work in manufacturing anywhere. Jobs for unskilled young people are now limited to fast food, or sales clerk in the mall, or call centers that everyone hates. I'll gladly pay more for everything because doing that makes the incentive for manufacturing start ups so we can have stuff made here again. Bye bye disposable cheap stuff! I'm all for tariffs on selected goods too that will create demand for able people to start manufacturing goods to meet the demand. I'll bet Trump would entertain grants to start ups as incentive to help. He can start with clothing. We used to make clothes but now nothing. Now China makes most of what we wear, a great deal of it is wear once and send to the thrift and warehouses full of clothes no one wants anymore. Back then if your toaster broke, you took it to the repair. Now if it breaks, you toss it and buy another cheap one. Tim is right. Our leaders just gave away the farm, all at our expense. Will take a little while, but we have the chance to bring a lot of it back and I'm here for it. Bring on the tariffs!!!! I'll take it in the form of leverage to get cooperation, fair exchange, or incentive for Americans to start up manufacturing. It's all a win.
People in big cities dont want to work and especially in manufacturing. They want to sit in an air condition office and put four hours of work in on an eight hour day
A lot of those jobs have been automated already. The American labor force is too expensive and skilled to waste on manufacturing kitchen appliances. We've moved onto aerospace, heavy equipment, and chemicals.
6-7 years ago, when Trump started the electronics tariffs, I was really against the idea. As a software engineer, PC parts were already too expensive and I didn't want to have to spend even more money for already overpriced PC components. But I was dead wrong in my thinking. The electronics tariffs didn't get passed onto the consumer and it's actually one of the main reasons why Intel is creating that massive chip manufacturing plant in the US.
Also PC parts were so damn expensive back then because they were used for bitcoin farming at the time right? So they were being snatched up and then scalped for 4x the MSRP. I don't know if tariffs would have had much an effect on it considering it wasn't really the true cost from the manufacturer. But it is good that Intel's bringing manufacturing back here.
Yes, and also tariffs don't exist in a vacuum. Many other factors impact the economy like foreign policy, tax policy, energy policy, etc. When combined with other policies, we saw lower inflation rates, decreased unemployment, increased labor force participation, lower taxes AKA increased take-home pay, increased wages, increased investments and jobs, stronger stock market, increased GDP, etc. All of these factors help offset the negative effects of tariffs, resulting in a NET POSITIVE for the American people as a whole. Even without these factors offsetting tariffs, it's often offset by companies both domestic and abroad absorbing the costs themselves by taking lower profit margins in order to retain market share. Also, companies diversify their supply chains or reshore production and negotiate with one another to mitigate any negative effects on consumers. In fact, dish washers got more expensive immediately after the tariffs, but then decreased after 2 years. Not to mention, Trump was able to use the threat of tariffs to negotiate better trade deals like the USCMA that replaced NAFTA, without even having to impose those tariffs. The left act like it's a 'gotcha' whenever Trump's opposition mentions potential price increases. Well yeah, we all know that already. In some cases, some products do increase in price, but the question is 'to what extent?' Also, as Thomas Sowell would say, policies aren't silver bullets, but a matter of tradeoffs. Of course there will be COSTS and of course Trump is aware of that, but if the GAINS outweigh them, then it's a WIN.
I built my pc a month before next gen chip sets came out wish I would of spent the extra 200$ for a ryzen 9 instead of the 5 with the internal GPU now that I look back at it
Exactly, that's the entire point. You don't propose a tariff on a country that you have mutual trade with, that would be pointless and benefit nobody. You propose it to strongarm them into stopping whatever stupid shit they're doing.

Even in worst case scenario, tariffs are short term pain for long term gain. I'm behind tariffs to protect American industry and stopping other countries from taking us for a ride. Especially when many use tariffs against 'us' to protect their own industries. We can play that game too.

The Democrat Communist Party and the Chinese Communist Party are one and the same.
I can tell you from personal experience in manufacturing that tariffs work as intended. Back during Trump's first term, I was working at a company that manufactured medical devices. Many sub-components are made by outside suppliers, most of which were based in China. Once the tariffs were announced, our company was looking desperately for local suppliers and found many. One major sub-component was found to be able to be made by a company literally down the street, 5 minutes away. Their price was much higher, but were able to provide immediate same-day reworking if need be and local language support of products. Turn around went from 3 months to 3 weeks. Production costs increased, but rework and scrap costs went down significantly. A win-win for us. Tariffs were (reluctantly by some)noted in meetings as having a net benefit to the company. Retail prices did not increase more than they would have otherwise.
This. This is what people miss. If you slap a 25% tariff on a good, the cost of that good does not automatically increase by 25%. You can usually find a local source, which can provide the good at higher than original, but lower than the post-tariff cost. Even if you cannot, a 25% tariff will usually work out to a < 10% increase in the cost of the good. The shipping, warehousing, etc costs of the good do not increase. Only the base cost to import it.
Ridiculous. If swapping supplier was so good, why didn't the company do it already? If your company was ran with incompetance that has nothing to do with tarrifs. In any business operating efficiently, tarrifs can only make prices go up. It should have other effects too, but prices can only go up since cheap options are removed.
@@theWebWizrdof course the prices will go up. So will the amount of people having good jobs in America. Money will flow and the value for your dollar will also go up. Chasing cheap pricing is a losers game.

The tariffs are not avoidable. Trump said they will remain in effect until the fentanyl and migrants are no longer a problem. And China's response should make it 25% across the board
Oh no! I MIGHT have to pay a tariff on ONLY imported goods that I *CHOSE* to purchase. And all I'm getting in exhange is an end to the *unavoidable* taxation of *EVERY* dollar I earn... That sounds terrible.
As someone in an expensive niche hobby that relies on purchases from foreign artisans that would be out of my reach entirely with a 25% price increase, even I am ALL FOR this. I want to buy clothes and shoes manufactured somewhere we can keep a closer eye on what the hell was sprayed on them and what the 'recycled cotton blend' is actually comprised of.
I really don't understand why this is complicated. The US outsourced MASSIVE amounts of jobs to foreign countries. The US immediately became weaker and continued getting weaker over time, while all the other countries got stronger as our companies sent their money overseas for wages, factories, etc. Not only did we do immeasurable damage to our own country, we received FAR worse products at a slightly undercut price until they knocked out US companies and then basically price-matched where they were. You aren't getting a Drill for $5.
They also do things like buy up and stockpile all the cotton we grow, wait a while, then dump it back onto the market at prices our farmers cannot compete with, taking a temporary loss to force our producers out of business entirely. Bam, global monopoly on cotton, pork, you name it. This is an act of war.
I live in Canada and I agree with Trump here. He's forcing Trudeau to put on the big boy pants and actually govern, rather than prance around. This will actually help Canada.
Yeah really think so? You think the government will flip that bill or do you think you’ll have to? The only thing for sure that will happen is the liberal government and media will have an excuse to why Canadians are struggling. TRUMP
It is so weird that democrats are fighting against tariffs. I'm GENERALLY not a tariff guy. But tariffs on a country that uses slave labor to compete in the market... I'm all for it!
"Free markets" only operate effectively in a closed environment. I.E in a NOT global environment. I.E in a protectionist environment. In a globalized environment, the free market breaks down.
No, this is incorrect. This is incorrect because you are basing your conclusions off of incorrect information. Same as Tim, and many other who speak on this topic. To explain: right now, there are two groups of certain people that are frothing at the mouth because of either "oh no tariffs" or "oh no, but free market". To both of them, I say: tariffs are already up! You see, when demonstrating tariffs and their effects when you teach people, you have this little a graph. It shows the pricing and volume, etc. Basically, when both sides have a tariff up, they are in balance, but consumers on both sides pay an extra tax (boo, taxes, I agree). So if BOTH sides shake on it and drop them, the trade volume would remain consistent, but prices would come down all around. This is an indisputable mathematical fact. So no, they don't "only operate effectively in a closed environment". The opposite is true. HOWEVER... That is not what the situation on the ground is. Because, other countries DO have tariffs on the USA! The situation was basically always this: Trump says either YOU also drop tariffs (less taxes collected for other governments), or WE will raise ours to match yours (thus achieving the tariff balance in the mathematical demonstration). Basically - either we both have free trade, or we both have protectionism, we are good with either... but you might not like it *wink wink, nudge nudge* That is his approach. It doesn't happen in a vacuum. Free market is always superior, BUT there is NO free market if one side constantly uses protectionism, while the other doesn't. If we are competing in a sport, you don't get to use steroids. We either BOTH play fair and stay clean, or we both roid-up and we REALLY see how far we can push this baby. The whole argument is moot.
I wouldn't say that the tariffs were never meant to be used. You don't bluff with this kind of negotiation. If people think that all you do is bluff. They won't take you as a serious threat. They know Trump will likely do it, if he has to.
Avocados just needs a warm climate to grow in…we have them here in Hawaii all over same with mangoes and bananas…all the same fruits that gets brought in for cheap from Mexico and South America can easily be grow in Hawaii but is instead brought from South America making it so that even in Hawaii our local grow is more expensive in stores, how insane is that making it so that we are unable to be self sufficient in feeding ourselves yet the people here constantly complain about that. Tariffs would help to save and grow an agricultural economy in Hawaii like we once had when the sugar industry was here making it so that the locals would once again be able to remain in Hawaii and get into the middle class once again so I’m all for it and many of us locals voted for Trump as we’ll compared to the haoles that moved here from the rich mainland states that came from.

Indeed. They're SO CLOSE to realizing they're the pawns of the corporations. Maybe, just MAYBE, they'll get it through their thick, aggressive, nose-ring head.
Corporations won’t have smaller profits as they will pass it on to the consumer. Consumer prices will go up on anything with a tarrif. You will pay if you need the product not the company.
If the United States were to take control of Mexico, it could address multiple issues simultaneously. Crime and drug-related problems would likely decrease, illegal immigration would no longer be an issue, and we would gain access to additional resources. While this would result in an initial economic cost, the long-term benefits could potentially outweigh the drawbacks.
As a Canadian, I’m glad that Trump is making these moves. It’s going to force Trudeau to clean up his act or start to feel even more pressure from Canadians to resign. If the US starts booming while Canadians are left struggling, it’s going to make life for Trudeau even more uncomfortable, so I’m all for Trump doing whatever he can to make the US succeed.
Yes... What people don't realize is this... More jobs means higher salaries. It puts upward competitive pressure on salaries and wages. Even if the newly created jobs are in a specific sector (such as energy sector), workers would leave other sectors to join the energy sector. This decreases the supply of workers in the other sectors, thereby causing upward competitive pressure on salaries and wages in those sectors. It's basic supply and demand. So if you make more money at your job, you can now afford to buy groceries and gasoline, even if prices are higher. But prices won't be higher, because Trump is going to cut regulations, cut taxes, and unleash energy. That will cut the cost of doing business in America, so American goods will actually become CHEAPER. This is a win-win for everyone in America.
I'm Canadian, born and bred. I'm glad Trump is pushing back against Trudeau. Most Canadians (70%) didn't vote for Trudeau. He doesn't have a national mandate. So, he should be humble; instead, he's arrogant. Time to learn manners
That’s the problem we don’t make anything anymore. We have to stop outsourcing our jobs. It’s ridiculous. The garnet district was always a money maker, now gone. We have to start producing our own goods
We have too many regulations. This causes prices to go up. We should cut regulations, especially environmental regulations that do more harm than good. Then prices will come down. Tax cuts and low energy prices will also cause prices go come down. Combine this with tariffs (or better trade deals), and people will "buy American" once again.
@@bnhcomputers4856 all a large company has to do to avoid those regulations is to move their entire manufacturing to another country that doesnt have them. meanwhile local businesses can barely operate, even while they are not being robbed by the same guy who was let go 30 times in a month

Did I make it in life without even realizing, to buy and eat them whenever I feel like it?

But that sounds like the company can do it cheaper in china vs canadian labour
Cheaper labor and no restrictions on materials.

They want to sit in an air condition office and put four hours of work in on an eight hour day
When I was a kid imported stuff was everywhere but all the quality things were made in America.
Well said
You do realize that when something is “made in America”, that most of their components are imported, right?
"Project Eagle" is here in AZ. I recently drove by the construction site, and the new fab is indeed MASSIVE!
I built my pc a month before next gen chip sets came out wish I would of spent the extra 200$ for a ryzen 9 instead of the 5 with the internal GPU now that I look back at it
But the left is freaking out because tariffs are guaranteed to be passed on to the consumer…
Bois and gurls, those of you who oppose tariffs, this is how it’s done.

It’s a threat.
But joy behar said it’s a “stupid policy”! How could the view be wrong??
@strategery101 Why are you wasting time, to know the view even said that?
Unlike Biden, who signs infrastructure bills and imposes new tariffs on steel and aluminum. Stuff to build the buildings.

Used to be a great radio station when I was a kid. Anyway today, Nov. 26, I come into the city and get stuck in traffic. I like quiet driving as a rule but I think I'll give it a go this one time and see if it's better or worse. The first thing I hear, the host mentions the tweet by President Trump about these tariffs and this is key, unless Canada and Mexico do more to curb the illegal drugs and immigrants flowing into the U.S. In my obviously tiny uneducated brain I think 'well hey maybe we should do something about the illegal drugs and immigrants flowing into the U.S. since that's what seems to be the problem. Apparently I just don't understand how things work because they went on ad nauseum about how this will devastate our economy, blah blah energy sector, blah, manufacturing. Pierre Poillievre said 'This is an unfair tariff'. No one. Not a single person said , yeah these ILLEGAL DRUGS AND IMMIGRANTS seem to be a problem, let's fix that so we can focus more on trade and jobs and better flow of goods back and forth! Friggin idiots!
Often overlooked is the shipping costs due to energy cost. What you said makes sense but it’s often left out of the dissenters math.
We need a hardcore, INVEST IN AMERICANS wave of patriotism. Trashing Chinese goods kind of movement. MAGA!!

It will create market competition and shift more purchasing by Americans to American products.
@logangodofcandy no it won't. US hires crap Indian engineers and screw up it's own tech companies. Just look around
We owe China 800 billion

Basically - either we both have free trade, or we both have protectionism, we are good with either... but you might not like it *wink wink, nudge nudge*
That is his approach.

I can grow most of that myself. I can make tortillas myself.
So Trump might just save my country too😊.
🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸
We just can’t stop winning. We’re going to win so much, we’ll get tired of winning- we’ll be like stop! Please, it’s too much winning!
Well said. Thank you Tim!! 💥
But how will Americans survive without their Quebec maple syrup 😢
The have been watering the stuff down for years
Or Trudeaus “friendship bracelets”
According to the label on the maple syrup I've bought over the years mine comes from either Vermont or New hampshire.
Darn, diabetes may go down without the maple syrup…
Buy American maybe syrup. I get mine from a local New York farm.
'Tis the season to remain based, blessed and MAGA. 🇺🇸
I LOVE PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR THIS❤❤❤❤
I'm a Canadian in Ontario. Fully support Trump. Put your country first. I wish we did the same.
Can you imagine how bad it smells around those caravans.
As a Canadian. F ' Trudeau, go Trump!!
Well done President Trump. From Canada.
This country needs Jobs! If charging another country a tariff causes it to move production to America, then it’s a very good thing
🤟😎👌🇺🇸
@@bnhcomputers4856 all a large company has to do to avoid those regulations is to move their entire manufacturing to another country that doesnt have them. meanwhile local businesses can barely operate, even while they are not being robbed by the same guy who was let go 30 times in a month
Its coming. The US is the lowest cost producer of textiles through technology. It just takes capital to set up the automated factory.
Its the same with most industries.
We also need to stop buyin crap we don't need that falls apart. Lets build stuff that lasts and can be fixed up.
Americans first. We r in power now.
😂😂😂
Fair point about eu nations payin for us defense. But as a german i have to disagree since the us literally disarmed our nation. Like come on man
First off, when I go grocery shopping I refuse to buy imported produce. I live in NC & only buy from local farmers.
Support your local farmers! The food tastes better.
Get ready for FOUR more years of good news like this. 🎉🎉🎉
Basically, "I dont care how many illegal Fentanyl zombies I gotta deal with on my way to the store, as long as my avacado price stays cheap. 🙄
What's even worse is when they say "Food prices will rise because we don't have illegals to pick here in the US!"
Frankly these people are just fine with sudo slave labor as long as they get their stuff cheap...
It's funny to me that avocados are such readily available mental gauge for financial success. Why is that? "Bah, these whippersnappers can't afford a house because of their avocado toast" "B-but the price of avocados might go up!"
Am I missing something? Are avocados a luxury food item? Did I make it in life without even realizing, to buy and eat them whenever I feel like it?
I thought the whole deal with implementing the tariffs was also in concert with eliminating the income tax, thereby giving you extra money to pay for these higher prices or the ability to save more of your own money if you don't want foreign goods.
Government rarly get rid of taxes, income tax is a massive one
As a canadian just moving back to Canada after almost 40 years, this brings joy to see that I moved back at the right time
😂 Republicans against Trump? They're actually calling themselves RATs
Put a dollar in the trump is right jar
Can't, Biden inflation is still taking my dollar.
Can't wait for 1/20/25
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Canada already won the first round of chicken in 2017 when Trump forced a new Free Trade agreement.
@@Kreistor This is a more experienced Trump with a national mandate. We want change.
@@jkjlane And we won't let you turn us into a slave state. Is that your demand? We be your slaves because you're the biggest bully? Remember the "tyranny of the majority" that your forefathers warned you of?
As a Libertarian, I hate Tariffs. HOWEVER, due to One Party Dupolitics, China, Canada and the EU have 2x the Tariff % on OUR products than we place on them. So if this reduces Tariffs or gets rid of them completely, I am all for it...ESPECIALLY if that means we can import fully manufactured Mercedes-Benz cars into the U.S. instead of bringing them in pieces and assembly done here which has brought the reliability down.
If Americans moved to South America by the thousands, they would call them colonizers.
I am more concerned about the cost of beef than the cost of avocados right now.
I talked to our butcher long ago to find out which beef he sold was raised and butchered here. I suggest you do the same.
There is a difference in taste between the 2 just like between Angus and non Angus amazingly enough.
And the beat(of FREEDOM) goes on,on,on.. way to go Trump..STAND UP FOR THE COUNTRY, AND I WILL STAND TOO..
I’m Canadian born and raised… getting out of that miserable shit hole was the best decision I’ve ever made.
