I heard someone make an interesting observation recently about how a majority of horror slasher icons often wear masks that obscure their facial expressions, and how one of the defining characteristics of Art the Clown is how integral expression is to what makes him frightening. And so much of that is due to David Howard Thornton's portrayal of the character. Dude absolutely deserves to go in the hall of fame of horror icons.
He’s right about that. It’s one of the reasons Freddy was revolutionary over previous slashers such as Michael Meyers and Leatherface - with no mask viewers could see his face emote. It made him much more wicked. Art is kind of the best of both worlds. He can emote like Freddy, but his silence still gives him that inhuman ominence of Jason. My only nitpick is how scrawny he is. Freddy overcame that by having his mystical dreamworld powers, but Art really doesn’t have that so at times it feels a bit silly that someone that small could wreak so much havoc. The visual wickedness of his face and ultra-violent acts he commits tend to cover that up though. Wonderful character and a wonderful actor that really understands what it takes to make that character special.
Although no one compares to Freddy Krueger, I’ve heard from others that Art is like a silent Freddy. You just KNOW if Art could talk he would be revolting in the best way possible.
I find it funny that people who play terrible villains are actually nice people in real life. The actor who played Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs was actually a sweetheart in real life.
I got to meet him last Saturday and he was really nice, unfortunately I didn't get to see him in costume and character as Art later in the event because I left early. Maybe next time
Definitely try to catch him it’s a wild experience there is just something about how striking he looks and he has so much charisma but then you see the teeth and he does the smile and it just stuns you and you kinda freeze up like holy shit that’s really art the clown i’m standing next to and he is beeping a horn at me 😂
My kids tried to get me to watch Terrifier. I wouldn’t. A while back I came across this video, saw how handsome he was with his salt n pepper hair and how he absolutely transformed into Art the Clown and so I was hooked from then on.
He only has those eyes in the new movie I don’t think he is going to use those at conventions I’m sure they don’t feel great and he does a lot of conventions trust me when you see art irl the contacts are the last thing you are looking at it’s the teeth that really draws your attention it’s wild
Notice how much the makeup match with his eyes colors David Howard is the one and only who can make this makeup looks creepy this is absolutely insane 🔥
I wish the face didn’t change from the first movie to the third. I really like the first face so much more. The cheekbones, the uncanny smoothness… it was much less “mask-y”
and I forgot to write that if I knew where to write to them, the whole group that is engaged in the film and their actor, I would write thank you for such films .👍
i remember watching all hallows eve before art was popular then when terrifier came out in 2016 oh man its hard to believe we even got a second one let alone a third and now a 4th i dont want 4 to be the last i bet the could keep this character interesting up till at least 6 mayyyyybe 7 but it cant be yearly releases every couple years theres gotta be ways to spice him up but if 4 really is the last we gotta see damion make more movies cuz hes not scared to make amazing controversial stuff and david has to be another character cuz hes amazing
Art could go for 6-7 movies but Damien has said he doesn't want to be another franchise that overstays it's welcome (lookin at you Saw!) Terrifier will likely end on the 4th movie, MAYBE 5th.
I just wanna say that while the movie wasnt the greatest thing in my opinion, his performance as Art was absolutely amazing. He looks so badass! The miming was perfect. It was worth seeing just for that. The over kill wasn't for me, and neither was the mocking of Jesus.
The 3rd one he has the demon eye contacts in most the time which I don’t know if i agree with yet, his normal eyes are dark so i feel the only time he needs the contacts in is real close ups or during certain expressions
I get so creeped out by Art so much so that I have not seen any of the movies. I suppose that is what makes it such an effective antagonist. I just know that my poor little scull computer can't take it lol

100% agree. Dude is legendary!
There’s no question. He’s right up there with the goats.

Plus he's an actual clown so portraying one is all in a day's work for him 👏🏻
Love how as soon he has the teeth put in the actor disappears and the monster comes out to play 🤣
Literally, tight before our eyes.

Such a natural, he really brings art the clown to life!
How a nice guy can portray such a vile sadistic character show's the scope of his ability as an actor
That's one way of looking at it.
I find it funny that people who play terrible villains are actually nice people in real life. The actor who played Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs was actually a sweetheart in real life.
@@avocado3-in-182 También Albert Shaw de The Black Phone, amo esa película
I wonder what the prosthetic was made of😮 since his face just captures every movement
I’ve wondered that too. Maybe foam latex?
Human flesh lol
It's a foam latex piece
Silicone. Foam latex is the old way. Silicone is much more expressive. As the pieces can be thinner than you would have with latex.
@@reiafromcanada3026damnit,you beat me to it&stold my response,L😂L
Seriously. Art the Clown aside, David himself is so cute and his smile is so endearing.
0:45 this is when u see him get into character. The eye roll and the relaxed and annoyed look on his face.💯
The way he acts with his eyes is incredible
Along with the smile 😁

For being scary, Art has a pretty eye color lol

A handsome guy under all that stage makeup!
Art is such a nice feller.
I'd like to invite him for dinner.
My whole family would be honored.
Don't forget the mashed potatoes!
The character ART the clown is very good, he is very charismatic in real life David❤He plays the character well, I loved it. 😊

David, actor or Art the clown?
I watched every single terrifier movie and they were all great
Omg his acting 😉❤️ 0:54
Terrifier is such a goofy clown but don't let that fool you because he's twisted and sick 😭😭
After Terrifier 3, Art is my new favorite horror icon. This movie solidified his place as a legend alongside FK, MM, and JV.. Very goated.
Love him so much!
He is so cute under that scary mask! But how fast he gets into character it's ridiculous!
He's a whole different human being once he put on the make-up and outfit.
Art the clown Legend 👑💯
David is amazing and Art should definitely get his place in the Hall of Fame of Horror
David belongs with Robert Englund and Lon Chaney Jr. in the group of horror characters that can only be played by one actor
Tim Curry belonged there as well until Bill Skarsgard came along
David Howard Thornton is a nice guy, even in costume he doesn't scare me.
Without the man behind the prosthetic there would be NO magic- and that is what truly makes what David does “True Art”
I sincerely hope David lands the role of Joker in James Gunn's DCU. That would be a huge missed opportunity if he didn't imo
He seems so nice and chill before the costume 😂
love how the second he’s in the costume he goes straight into character
My kids tried to get me to watch Terrifier. I wouldn’t. A while back I came across this video, saw how handsome he was with his salt n pepper hair and how he absolutely transformed into Art the Clown and so I was hooked from then on.
It's nice to see the real person behind this vile character! 🎅
That side smile is iconic
He's so cute!
I like Art the clown but dang, David is really good looking!!! ❤
I got to meet David Howard Thornton is at comic con such a super nice guy its amazing how a nice guy like him brings a character like art to life
It’s just like a completely different person. He doesn’t even look like his normal self from the beginning. It’s truly terrifying! 😂❤🤡
Such a lovely man could become such a cruel clown. perfect.
Idk why but when he put the teeth in was just too funny 😂😂
As Art, he is hilarious 🤣🤣
A cult classic horror icon in the making
I love it when he gets into character ❤❤❤
How long does it take in total tho
What about the lenses?
He only has those eyes in the new movie I don’t think he is going to use those at conventions I’m sure they don’t feel great and he does a lot of conventions trust me when you see art irl the contacts are the last thing you are looking at it’s the teeth that really draws your attention it’s wild
@@paulysmallz8095 He also wore Black contact lenses in the first Terrifier movie.
0:56 and ✨️PRESTO✨️ its the goober! ☺️☺️☺️☺️
I'll be the actor playing Art is such a lovely guy. Usual case with horror actors.
Where can I buy that latex prosthetic from.
such a lovely smile 😂

My boy Art‼️❤️
The theme song is 🔥 the third movie was so good
I love It!!! Iconic Art🖤🖤🖤
Love you David!!! 🤘🤡
It’s the matte black lip that somehow makes it even creepier
MY GODD!!! He's AMAZING actor!!!
He really deserves an Academy award!
His performances are amazing
The last smile 😂
Him being in costume and out of character is so weird, even if it was only for a second 😂
Ive met david howard thornton he was the nicest guy!
Simple but terrific!
Art is so much less scary after seeing this😂
Just applying the prosthetic: immediately uncomfortable.
Dentures & a smile: regrets living..
Question - does he wear contacts in the movies, or in the very least, in Terrifier 3?
he definitely had something over his eyes in the third one. they were all white except for the pupils
In the third film, yes. At least in a few episodes. This can be seen from the trailer.
It’s like venom. One human side. One demon controlling
Art the Clown 🤡 is absolutely Terrifying Pure Evil
imagine how much pain in the face that is for hours.
even gettin ready he's in character
Can we buy the mask part for Halloween?
I wish the face didn’t change from the first movie to the third. I really like the first face so much more. The cheekbones, the uncanny smoothness… it was much less “mask-y”
CANT WAIT FOR 3
They need to mass produce a 1 on 1 copy of that face mould pre painted if possible!
Wouldn’t work because it’s tailored for his face only.
You rock, David!! 🖤
Wow it really seems so simple from this video
That's smile 😂
and I forgot to write that if I knew where to write to them, the whole group that is engaged in the film and their actor, I would write thank you for such films .👍

It's always shocking to see that he's a normal looking dude under the makeup
