How long did it take you to be able to understand Japanese so well? 👁 I'm learning and though I can read it fairly well with no issues, when it comes to listening I understand literally nothing. 😭

i'm opposite of you, my reading needs work but my listening is quite accurate even for radio and livestreams where they are at their most chaos and frequently start speaking over each other lol
i apologise in advance for being a busy-body for offering tips when it wasn't asked, so just ignore the following wall-of-text if you don't like it
I started training my listening comprehension with songs... just look at the lyrics as you listen to it (bonus that it also helps with learning new vocab)... after that you can practice with subbed anime and then move to drama CDs and radio... for any of these methods, just keep rewinding whenever you didn't quite catch the part... repetition is key in learning language after all... if you come across words that were spoken too fast and not too clearly, you can just simply google the gist of the phrase that you heard and you'll usually be able to find out what that word was
slowly but surely, you'll get a hang of it... good luck with your self-study in the language from a fellow student of the language ^^
