    This worked, thanks. Words of warning for others - 1 - be careful near the front edge because you can easily damage the led on the board. I killed one of the LEDs this way. 2- If your touch sensor is wonky, try restarting (putting it back into the charger) - it will work again.

    • @cybernd78
      @cybernd78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can confirm that. For a second i thought that i messed up the touch sensor. Not sure if it was putting it back into the charger or temporary assigning them "none" as command. Now everything works again.

      You can also use the new Varta CP1254 A4 batteries, as they have an even higher capacity than A3. The warning in the video is to make sure you don’t buy A2 batteries, which sellers on eBay often list as ones for repairing earbuds, but as mentioned, those have a lower capacity than A3.

      When I opened mine the ribbon ended sticking to the cover instead of staying on the bud, do you think the controls will still work?
      Nevermind, left them to charge for a while and they're working now.

    Thank you so much for this! I love my headphones but after a few years of heavy use followed by the pandemic and almost no use batteries were pretty dead. You, kind sir, saved me a few hundred dollars for new headphones and prevented generating unnecessary electronic waste. Big kudos!
    One note - when lifting the battery - it's much easier to do from the side where the ribbon is. If you go from that side you're also more likely to only extract the battery which saves you the effort on re-aligning the contact

  • @Lorenzo_Strozzi

    Just performed the replacement successfully, thanks for this video! couple extra thinks to look out for:
    1- as other said, look out for the led's on the bottom of the board, take your time and open the perimeter in small steps, do not go deep with the picks.
    2- my replacement batteries came wrapped with an amber, adhesive tape film that needed to be removed prior installation
    3- watch out to not short the batteries! the metal contact bends upward and that upward part needs to be phisically distant form the side walls of the battery. I made this mistake initially and the battery got very hot. Luckly I was able to recover it but be careful!
    4- removing the old battery was quite more difficult than shown in the video. Personally the best tactic was to really push down with the plastic lever to really get under the adhesive before prying.

    • @webboy998
      @webboy998 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      video is generally very useful
      however around 5:12 how the OP placed the battery onto the metal plate is wildly dangerous. After removing the old battery you should put the metal plate back to the frame to install the replacement battery. On the frame there are two extruding bits aligned with the holes on the metal plate, the hole closer to the battery will allow the extruding bit on the frame coming through to prevent the side wall of the battery (plus side) from making contact with the metal plate which is already connected to the minus side (the side with engravings).

    Tip for anyone that finds the touch controls aren't working when you put the top cover back on. I found the touch controls worked fine with the new batteries without the top cover, but as soon as I put the top cover back on, the touch commands stopped working (for both buds). I found that I needed to reset the buds.
    Put the buds back in the case, the red LED (per bud) should light up indicating charging. Press and hold the touch button (one bud at a time, with the buds in the case, and with the top cover on). After around 15 seconds the red LED will start flashing, keep holding the touch button. After a couple more seconds the LED with flash faster, then a couple more seconds the LED will turn off. Once the LED goes off, stop pressing the touch button. The LED will come back on after a second or two to indicate it's charging again. Repeat for the second bud. Once I did that I found the touch commands were working again. The reset will not change any of your pairing settings, so you won't need to re-pair to anything.
    It's weird. Obviously the touch is working to some extend, otherwise the reset process wouldn't work, but when paired with my phone it would not work with media commands (play/pause/skip) without me doing the reset.

    I’ve had mine since early 2020 and they’re still amazing, not a single issue with battery life and I use them every other day or so only requiring a charge once or twice a month. I do tend to listen to fairly low volume though so maybe that’s why they last so much longer

    Thanks man! I follow your instructions and replace the batteries by myself, you just forget to mention that the metal sheet which is attached to the battery must not touch the side of the battery itself because it causes a short-circuit. by the way, after more than 2 years I needed to replace the batteries because they hardly ever last for more than an hour. Now after first test they last for more than 2 hours! Notice that! always head for Sony authorized repair shop first and ask them for replacement.

However when I put the cell inside the casing, the was a gap and it was not short circuited anymore. @Sarousa, this should be added as WARNING for beginners.

    HOLY SMOKES!
    I bought these exactly 2 years, 1 month ago and the earbuds discharge at an unequal rate. The left one discharges considerably faster than the right one. Plus: The left one discharges completely after merely 30-40 minutes of use :(
    I was considering buying new ones, as they have dropped in price significantly (about 100€) and they are definitely the best true wireless earbuds i've EVER had.
    That was until now because i absolutely did not realise how stupid easy the batteries are to replace!!
    I was absolutely convinced one could not open these without totally destroying them in the process.

The new batteries came fully charged with a small tab on both sides for some reason, so i put the battery in with the tabs pointing into the battery and held it closed for a few seconds to see if the led would start blinking, but immediately notice the battery getting hot. so I removed the battery and installed it with the tabs facing the opposite direction and checked again for heat and power, and it worked great. hey good video, things i learned while trying this
    1. the flex cable is really... REALLY fragile, especially if you have an old one, don't bend it. i bent mine and it basically broke clean off. so now i don't have touch controls on 1 of the sides. waiting to see if charging still works, hopefully it does. but sound definitely comes out
    2. when you're prying it off, there are tabs/clips that can very easily break off, try not to pry on 1 side and rotate around like i did. that'd break the tabs for sure.
    3. get the varka batteries. i cheaped out and bought some batteries from china. worst decision ever, as soon as i put the metal tab, it made contact with the positive side and turned my battery into a heater. this one should be pretty obvious but.. not for stupid old me lol
    good luck to anyone trying this, take ur time, be careful

    This is why manufacturers are not keen to repair or replace the rechargeable batteries which would actually save the environment from more e-waste.
    I replaced both batteries as they were losing charge fast. It looks easy but you will still need a little patience and TLC as this are pretty small earbuds if you have huge fingers. I bought a pair batteries online which cost $18. The tricky part is placing the battery and it's metal connector with double sided tape.
    Before you close the cover, you can actually put the earbuds on the charger to make sure the red charging light appears. If it's blinking or no lights, it means the battery is not sitting or connected correctly.

    My replacement batteries came wrapped in yellow tape that I had to remove. They also had tabs that I had to break off. They worked awesome the first night but once I put them back in the charger overnight the left one stopped functioning. I completely disassembled it and the battery was too hot to touch. I tried to rotate the battery thinking that it might be shorting out on something. IT no longer overheats but that earbud stopped functioning. I would guess that I fried it somehow.

    When the battery popped out the earbud twisted in my hand ripping off the ribbon. Be really careful it lets go quickly.
    I knew the risk and a 15 min left earbud was mostly useless anyway. It still connects and I can hear just fine. I assume the noise canceling isn't working but I also don't use it much since outside it's terrible.

      They are not exclusive to a model, that said if they are of model thought for a type of earbuds they might have soldered stuff on it but you could always that
      But the battery itself is used in multiple devices

    Hi Saroua, thanks for your video which comes at the right moment as my wfx3 are dying to fast. I would like to have your expertise on this : found some cp1254 but a4 instead of a3. they seem to have same voltage and size but capacity looks better.
    Do you think they could be compatible with wfx3? thanks

    • @photonicpizza1466
      @photonicpizza1466 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They will be compatible. The A4 batteries are newer generation batteries from Varta. They weren’t available when the WF-1000XM3 were designed, so the batteries installed originally will be the A3, but you can use the newer batteries.
      The warning in the video is mainly because of sellers on eBay selling A2 batteries very often, which have a lower capacity so they would be a downgrade, but the A4 batteries do indeed have a higher capacity (and practically identical charging characteristics) so they will be an upgrade.

    Muchas gracias, siguiendo tu tutorial pude fácilmente cambiar la batería. Algo que noté diferente es que la batería original de mi auricular derecho (por que solo cambié la batería del derecho que es la que menos me duraba) dice ZeniPower Z55. ¿Esto es normal? ¿Afecta en algo (ya que usé la misma batería que indicas)? Como dato extra yo compré los míos en Amazon México. Gracias de nuevo.
    Thank you so much, following your tutorial I easily replace the battery. Something I've notice it the fact that the fabric battery on my right earbud ('cause I just replaced the right one which last less) puts on the battery "ZeniPower Z55. ¿Is that normal? ¿Does this affect in something (this 'cause I used the same battery as you)? As an extra fact i Bought mine in Amazon Mexico. Thanks again

    inside under the cover is a flat capacitive sensor coil. There is a black jelly-like plastic there and it serves as a seal or glue to transfer the charge from your finger through the cover to this sensor. So after the headphones are assembled - the sensor stops working because this glue is disposable. Having torn it off, it no longer conducts the signal for the reason that the contact is not tight. How to glue or what to replace this glue?

    ich habe zwei neue cp1254 a4 akkus verbaut, da meine alten akkus nur noch sehr kurze akkulaufzeit hatten.
    der austausch war nicht so einfach wie gedacht. zunächst hatte ich probleme die kappe abzubekommen, mir hat es geholfen an der vorderseite eines der plastikstücke zwischen deckel und kopfhörer zu schieben um die verklebung zu lösen. dabei sollte man vermutlich aufpassen, das plastik nicht soweit nach hinten zu schieben um das mikrofon nicht zu beschädigen. dannach habe ich die schrauben entfernt und die akkus herausgenommen, auch das herausnehmen der akkus war nicht so einfach wie gedacht. auch hier musst ich mehr kraft anwenden als erhofft, jedoch fuktioniert es so wie im video gezeigt sehr gut. dann habe ich die neuen akkus eingebaut und die kopfhörer haben zunächst nicht funktioniert bei einem habe ich beim aufdecken der batterie (wie in minute 4) so wie in einigen anderen kommentaren beschrieben die led kaputt gemacht. bei dem anderen kopfhörer hat diese zunächst nur geflackert wenn ich ihn in das ladecase gepackt habe. also habe ich die kopfhörer wieder aufgeschraubt und die akkus nocheinmal herausgenommen, dann habe ich den metall kontakt der akkus etwas nach oben gebogen, also die akkus von diesen entfernt, den metall kontakt ohne batterie in den kopfhörer eingebaut und dann die lippe unten in der mitte hochgebogen, anschließend den akku darauf gelget und dann zugeschraubt. dann haben beide kopfhörer wieder funktioniert, sohwol noise canceling als auch die touchfunktionen sind noch intakt, obwohl ich befürchtet hatte diese durch zu viel kraft einwirkung kaputt gemacht zu haben.

    I just wondering if you are ever got more than 105-110 minutes out of it, with the same settings? Would original powers earbuds for the same time?
    I did replace the batteries, with EVE ICR1254 V2.0 (0.222Wh), which was claimed to be as good as Varta CP1254 A3 (0.2Wh, same rated capacity 60mAh. It seems to be true as I've got from the first run 1h 45mins (right earbud) and 1h 51min (left one)... But on SBC codes and volume was around 30-40% as I could not go higher with my ears :-), the rest is the same. Anyway, it seems to has a limited impact on battery life/juice. I will see how it goes further.
    One note: the clips are very frigle I broke one at the rear side...

    I changed one side and it worked. For the left side, however, the touch control doesn't work when the lid is on. The red LED is flickering and I manage to do a factory reset (with blue LED blinking).
