What is the point of comparing the driving dynamics of a sporty fiesta with that of a vehicle that aims to be efficient? You failed to explain anything that makes this car great (the eCVT gearbox, ev driving only capabilites, range, actual city mileage) etc

    • @damianvila

@Commendatore I think you can drive it for 2km (or 1.24 miles) in the EV mode

    • @Nordjyden9000
      @Nordjyden9000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@damianvila That's correct, 1½ to 2 km and then the battery is flat. It takes about 30 km on motorway at 110 km to recharge it, and during that period the mileage is 12-13 km/l, 33-36 miles/gallon. The average mileage is 17,5 km/l or 49 miles/gallon. Nice but nothing to brag about. EV driving is very expensive and not the least economic.

@@Nordjyden9000 You a right, if you use it not as it intended ( drive in the city between traffic lights in speed limits) is not economic. If you drive in the city and you don't need to be a speed king, full throttle then full brake on next red light, then it is economic and reliable. On high way long trips and over 90km/hour there a plenty better cars available. If you use it for shopping, then bring children to school, then drive to work, then back for kids to school then back home, then it is nice little car with low consumption.

@@vitorvieira7617 Ours should replace our ageing Yaris 1.4 Diesel with automatic change. It had 400.000 km's on its back, and was damaged and became a total loss in a traffic accident, but with no mechanical problems at all. Our driving is 90% motorway, and we have a 2014 Aygo I use for commuting. We have used the same dealer for more than 25 years and our cars were and are regularly maintained - we keep them for many years, and the dealer know us and our driving. The Yaris drove around 40.000 km yearly. They praised and strongly recommended the Hybrid with the multi gearbox, as it had a very good mileage for our kind of driving.
I didn't take long before we discovered otherwise. We live in a small village close to the motorway (3 km's away) and a bigger city 15 km away. We have 2 km of village roads. So the daily routine is 2 km on village roads 40 km/h, 3 km on open road 80 km/h and 70 km motorway, then 1 km in the city 50 km/h. The car switched to electric drive coming home after the daily 75 km's entering the village, and switched on the petrol engine close to home or when reversing into our garage. In the morning, or if we should use it later, it switched on the petrol engine immediately to charge the flat batteries. The first kilometer is slightly downhill and the mileage was 5 km/l. It improved gradually to 16 km/l, and after 25 km cruising at 110, down 20 km/h from the old diesel, mileage was sometimes a remarkable 19 km /l with the autopilot on. The car is in complete control of the engine and gearbox. Our 10-year-old diesel regularly topped 21 km/l under the same circumstances, and averaged close to 20 on a yearly basis, but with higher cruising-speed. My 30-year-old Yamaha XJ900 sidecar outfit does it better. Very conservative driving, no burn-outs or agressive stuff, we are past that age, and with my background, anything on four wheels is boring, we use our cars to get from A to B.
Entering the motorway the engine sounded like leaving the car, and the gearbox keeps revs above 5000. Whenever you touched the accelerator, the gearbox changed what felt like 2 gears down, with the engine revving at a guessed 5000 revs.
It took us 4 months to get rid of it, the dealer didn't want it back in exchange for another Toyota - they just got rid of it. And we were offered half price for a car with 5000 km on the clock, even the thought of placing it in the worst part of Hamburg in the hope that somebody would steal it, crossed my mind. In the end we got a decent price, but it was an expensive experience we don't repeat. Maybe it works in a city, but for anything outside,. that type of hybrid is dead-end. Anyways, you cant say electric cars, without saying yes to nuclear power.
Our car park now is a 2019 Renault Megane Diesel DGS and a 2016 Toyota Aygo petrol manual shift. 2016 is not a coincidence: The only electronics are the engine control and B/T. It doesn't treat me like a 5-years old child. The Renault has averaged 19 km/l during the 1½ years now, and the Aygo averages 23. Both are EURO6 and the lower consumption alone, makes them much more environmental friendly than the Hybrid Yaris which is awarded with much lower taxes. Furthermore maintenace is much cheaper due to simpler construction and everything can be easily reused in 2050 when they are worn out.

I have a 2016 Toyota Yaris Icon Hybrid 1.5, and it's a great little all round car, both for the open road, and city/town driving. I would never change to anything else. I do a lot of driving, and £35 of petrol fills the tank and that lasts me around a week and a half usually. My friends are telling me that it costs £50 and £70 to fill their fuel tanks, and they're just astounded that the hybrid is only £35. I just love my car 😃💕

    • @lawgirl2007
      @lawgirl2007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The hybrid has two engines, one electric and one fuel powered, and uses the electric motor to drive around town at low speeds, and when more power is needed then the fuel motor kicks in, hence the car recharges the battery while on the move by using it's normal fuel powered engine. So there's no need to find a charging point to plug it in 😀

@Kristian BalaIt has eCVT transmission. Can be thought of as an electric motor and an Atkinson cycle (more efficient than normal engines) petrol engine inputting power to a sort of special differential gearbox so either or both can drive the car forward. This is not an electric car but uses electric technology to save the energy usually lost by using friction brakes. This saved energy is then used to drive the car forward for a short while.

True that. My 2006 Yaris 1.0 VVTI still going stzrong after 150,000 miles. And thats a 3 cylinder! Nothign done, only opil + filters and 10 years ago alternator. It has a timing chain, 0 rust, and the cheap plastic it always had are still like new, and no squeal.
My "new" 2015 Yaris 1.33 has 37,000 miles, and acts like new. Shame the scratches I made all over interior and exterior too. Well, nothing can be done, its a daily driver and used for EVERYTHING. The 1.0 struggled on motorway any uphill, even the smallest, with just me and GF. The 1.33 carried 4 people and full trunk uphill 130Kmh with 0 issues.
I tried the 1.5 VVTI non-hybrid. From what I could feel, it had more oompfh, acelerated a bit quicker, but thats all. 170kmh, avg 6L/100km, nothing special. From what Ive heard, the 1.5 hybrid feels a little slower comapred to 1.5 VVT-iE. The older are eCVT? If not, the new ones ARE CVT. I dont know about their reliability. But the 1.0 54kW and 1.33 73kW/99PS (except its 1st 2009 version), are top reliable engines.
Fun to drive like Fiesta, not. Quality materials like VW Polo, not. But better optics, funner interior, more reliable, and even kinda nice to drive A-B and also highway. And I think none of them, nor other rivals in class, have any kind of acoustic treatment for motorway anyway.

This year, Toyta Yaris were introduced into their system (Y20 model at least) the new media center console which features android auto and apple car play, my car already has it.
The worst things that i hate are:
    - The back seats are very uncomfortable and you don't have too much spacing because the batteries are inside the bottom seats.
    - if you look to the engine bay, there is not too much metal going on there, also if you look bellow the car you will see not too much metal as well.
    - The top of the steering wheel is thinner comparing to the rest, and when you grab it to make a full turn, grabbing it doesn't feel right.
    - USB cover is very low quality.
    - Storage is very limited.
    - After some time, if you open the driver's door just to take out something with you, you'll hear the system pre-starting (probably the fuel pump feeding fuel to the motor, making the car ready to be turned on)
    - There is no storage on the back of the front seats.
    - When you full speed, you'll hear the engine giving it all, and it makes a lot of noise inside.
    - "EV mode" disables by itself when the car needs more power, and even if you lower the speed, you'll have to press the buttonagain, not quite sure why you have a button to "force" EV mode if you can just run on ev mode if you keep controlling the speed by yourself.
    - Breaking is very aggressive, but that's not quite a problem.
    - "Auto high beams" not always work properly, and when it's activated you can't force them to turn on.
    But apart of that:
    - The suspension is awesome.
    - the front side is very comfortable
    - The bag has great space
    - You have a service wheel instead of a repair kit
    - It is visually appealing
    - traffic signs reading works great
    and so on

£0 down payment on motorbility makes this car very popular in that segment. If you want a ZOE Electric the down payment is over £4500. No savings in running costs there. But it is a zero emissions car as a plus. We had a look at the Smart ForFour Electric. Comes with great specs and zero emissions as you would expect being all electric. But again the down payment on this car now is over £1500 on motorbility. So there for the Yaris is the best car to go for in terms of cost ver 3 years on motorbility scheme.

Zero emission?? 95% of the time it is powered by petrol, and apart from the very small amount of power saved from braking, it is also petrol driven when it switches to EV for max. 1 mile. If you want a car with limited emission, go for at EURO6 car, preferably a diesel as it uses the fuel more effectively, as demonstrated i the real world by the good MPG diesels have compared to similar petrol or hybrids.

New one is even better. 4:05 More efficient petrol or diesel alternative. There is none alternative (Ev is not alternative yet for everyone) , petrol cant match fuel efficiency of Yaris nor Diesel can in city driving (60 mpg). Many cars do more than 200.000 miles. We had a Yaris Diesel 1.4 MMT 2010. It did 190.000 miles with regular maintenance and a set of discs and two sets of pads, before it was destroyed by being hit from behind. We had a 1.8 Avensis doing 450.000 miles with nothing else than maintenance, 2 set of discs, 4 sets of pads and a clutch. It was scrapped for the same reason, rear-ending. When it went for scrap it still had the original exhaust system and no rust. Our no. 2 car, a Suzuki Swift, just passed 200.00 miles - 12 years old. My 30-year old motorcycle a Yamaha XJ900 has 125.000 miles on the clock and I haven't done anything else than changing the oil and filters, and checking valve clearances once a year. The core point is: "Keep it simple", the more stuff you put in, the more must me maintained and in the end replaced.
For city use we need an entirely different type of car, and it should be small and electric. Not the Smart, where they forgot what they were making underway.

The revving under acceleration is a feature of all CVTs (belt driven or electric), hidden by some manufacturers by putting artificial gear changes into the programming to fool drivers into thinking they are driving a torque converter automatic.

The car has a tiny nickle metal hydride battery and so will be of little use in general motoring. Most of the efficiency comes from the atkinson cycle engine.

if you want an efficient, cost effective car, just buy a second hand yaris with the 1.0 engine. It's better for the environment if you do.

Exactly what I did, 1 year old, 10 000 km, lots of options, only it is the 1.5 engine. Still very happy with my buy, should get it in 2 weeks.

VW bias yet again. Stop comparing a unique small hybrid against a VW Polo for gods sake.

We have a Lexus hybrid, a brilliant car, but all reviewers compare it to BMW's and Mercs.
The top reviewers just don't like hybrids for some reason. We are looking at getting rid of
our Ford Bmax this year, and fancy a Yaris. I did look at Fiestas, but they don't do a hybrid
automatic (or cvt). VW's are just too unreliable.

I have one of those. Had it for four months and 13.000 km now and I don't like it, it's an awful var and it has chased me away from Toyota and I had 5 during 25 years. It is used for long-distance commuting, 6 km village/country roads and 85 km on low-traffic motorways each way, 5 days a week. 85 km on the cruise control at a steady 110 km/h. It works out at an average 17,4 km/l since new, which is nothing to write home about these days. Our 10 year old diesel did it better at an average of 22 km/l and at a higher cruising speed. The problem is that the few km it will drive on the battery are very expensive to recharge, and my calcs says that when it moves by electricity alone, it is comparable to 6 km /l. If you want economy buy diesel, and a modern diesel are EURO6 just as a petrol engine. I won't write about the horrible CVT gearbox and the awful over-reving at the slightest hill or acceleration. Ours is for sale again, big disappointment.

VW interior looks borijng af, fiesta looks like a futuristic calculator on a female Gundam´s chest. at least the old ones. Dont know the 2021 and up models. But even so, Yaris 3rd gen, even since its 1st debute in 2012/2013, has had much nicer interior design. And the fiesta fun drive and polo better interior materials, dont mean they are better cars. All of them are better in something. A fabia 3 has biggest boot, but also dumbest backseat size. If the preice was the same, Yaris is a no brainer with its reliability, good 1.33 and 1.5/hybrid engines.

Well, I have to say that it is difficult to compress more bias and BS in a five minute video. Just because you don't like the eCVT gearbox doesn't mean it's a bad system, because it actually is reliable and comfortable. The brakes in this little car are well sized, powerful and heat resistant. Never a problem in prolonged downhills. Performance? The one to expect in a 100 HP car. The power IS there, you just have to ask for it. If you didn't find it, that means you didn't understand how this little car works. Same guess for your noise complaints. It is possible to drive it quick enough with very little noise, provided you get the feel of the car, which you obviously didn't.
I have owned it for two years and couldn't be happier for daily use, a job that it does flawlessly and asking for very little in return.
