  • Take a ride on the world's longest zipline. The 1.74-mile-long thrill recently opened in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. Riders zoom down from a mountaintop, reaching speeds of up to 93 miles an hour. The new zipline beats the previous record holder from Peru by about 2,000 feet.

    How do they get down from the platform at the end? Strange to have the platform suspended in the air.

      Looking at all the cables on around it, i think they can lower the whole platform to the ground?

    • @metal-beard
      @metal-beard 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First ride ends at that platform, and then you start again from there to the ground.

      It would be tiring and a long walk up hill to the start again?

      People go on their own vehicles, or taxi/uber. You can hike, if you're upto it. :)

      Did u even read or understand what i said? This video contains no first person footage from the rider. It tries to film the rider from other angles. Hence my question, why didn't they let the rider carry a cam.
      Then you suddenly jump in and say i think they did let the rider carry a cam. What's your problem?

    Ziplines always bother me from a safety perspective. If the line snaps, you die! It is a single point of vulnerability. To fix this from an engineering perspective, you have a second, redundant line that you are hooked to in case the first one breaks. Also ensure the second one is made by a different company, preferably out of different materials.

    • @JonatasMonte
      @JonatasMonte 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or make it two zipline cables instead of one, the problem with this is that it might increase the strain on both cables.

    • @revcrussell
      @revcrussell 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair point. I guess this is a beyond-design-basis event. However, those things can happen. The funny thing with BDB accidents is that you can't figure out how they happen but can prepare for the worst.

    Needs a ski lift alongside, underneath, or above for going back up! Even if it's a long ride it would make going up also a great experience. If it takes 15 or 20 minutes, put a little table in front of the riders, like a school desk, and let them eat lunch while sitting on a chair moving through the sky! Then when I returned to the top I'd probably want to zipline down again!

    The platform leads to another one kilometer zipline that brings you to the ground. For a limited time riders will get complementary gopro footage of their ride.

  • @Silkendrum
    @Silkendrum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    ...and then you end up on a tiny platform suspended in the air. Where do you go from there?

    • @metal-beard

      that's about the middle of the zipline. First you get to that platform, and then you take another ride to the ground.

      How can you proof it is tested regularly? you can swim (unless you hit your head onto something) with a gondola, cars have safety measures (even being more dangerous than the zipline statistically)
