They were shocked I was a fan of DM and Nitzer Ebb. They told me, among 500 of their high school students they were the only two fans of DM. Huge? None of their albums sold enough to be certified Platinum. One exception. The Best of compilation from 2006.

It says the album has shipped so many copies that DM outsell even the best selling Madoona or Prince albums. I chcked the Wiki. By July 1990 Madonna´s 4 albums had gained 15x Platinum status in the UK. DM has a very loyal fanbase...us :-) but if I talk to people from the UK, most of the young people have hardly ever heard of DM, the older will say, yeah they had JUst Can´t Get Enough..are they still around. Yes, they sell more than 2.5 million tickets on their world tour. Whaat? They got no idea
@@jakubpetricek They've always been way more supported and popular in Germany than in the UK. They moved to Berlin in the 80s and recorded albums there. There is something that just clicks with Depeche Mode and Germany.
@@farnyone Maybe it has got something to do with the number of concerts DM play in the UK. Spirit Tour - only 5 gigs in the UK. The same number as in Canada or Poland. They played 19 times in Germany, 11x in France and gave 9 gigs in Italy.

I had never been able to visualize that term because I had never seen that expression on anyone’s face before.

It's also amazing to realize in 2010 how the bands in the world are bounded to music entertainement (including U2 themselves, with respect), and DM ARE still CREATING new music, and are NOT bound to any industrial mainstream, only to their stream... UNIQUE IN THE HISTORY of music !!!

Schon sehr verstörend welche "Musiker" heutzutage massenweise Preise zugeworfen bekommen, und eine Band die die Musikszene so extrem deutlich geprägt hat wie Depeche Mode nur einen? Daran erkennt man wieviel diese Preise noch wert sind...
Maybe because they'd just finished the TOTU tour during which Dave Gahan found out he had cancer and had to get treatment? Perhaps he thought it wiser to stay at home and rest after an incredibly difficult tour for him health-wise.
@athfdrizzle I think the same..but after them only depeche mode..u2 and black eyed peas are not so relevant(despite that u2 is very overrated)..at least in my opinion
