Throw some Huckleberries in the shade. huckleberry pie and smoothies and ice cream ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the continuous great relevant content! Really appreciate that you don't fill it with lots of ads.
Thank you for saying that! :)
When we moved to our homestead there was already an orchard. It wasn't in great condition but there were living fruit trees. Every year we try to add at least two more trees.
Looking good 👍
Thanks for all your great ideas.
Yum.... Honeycrisp and strawberries 😋
Great job love the video
Get some blueberries going Y'all live in the perfect environment for blueberries!
thats a great tip....i made that mistake planting my fruit trees years later
Nice advise. Merci.
Honey Crisp apples are the best! We just planted two at our cottage in Michigan. We used to have a couple at our home in Minnesota! Very hardy! Come out of University of Minnesota lab!
Nothing like a stroll down the steps and a snack. the value you add to your properties is amazing, completely get your progression through properties and enjoy your content.
I keep thinking the same thing, though it’s been two years here now and I haven’t gotten to the new trees. In AZ you have to plant the water before you can plant a tree. I’ve had to rebuild all the irrigation systems here first and so many other things. I know I’m missing out on that lead time it takes for trees to produce, but no sense in planting trees so they can die.
Awesome start on the way ! Keep them coming !
I totally agree. We’ve acquired a few fruit varieties for our first tree planting. 🤞🏻 If we get any fruit over the years to come, I will be happily surprised.
Awesome video thanks for sharing
Back in the 50's and 60's, many homeowners planted fruit and berry plants in their yard. It was a trend carried over from the lean times in the Great Depression. Then it fell out of favor for some reason, prosperity maybe. Now it's coming back into vogue. Only problem is , don't move away before they mature. Hard to do in these times when many people want a change every few years.
Glad to see people wanting to grow their own food instead of eating food made in a factory! And a tree planted is a great thing, no matter who plants it, or who eats of its fruit.
Awesome, I was trying to figure out where to plant my bare root strawberries
Remember all the trees planted at the old place
Yeah they are making a new family very happy:)
Curiosity question: do you worry about the roots infiltrating and damaging the steps and/or retaining walls close to the trees you planted?
Might be something to keep in mind for sure. Our property is full of mature oaks, maples and black walnuts, roots definitely will be a challenge for us!
@@SSLFamilyDad Just an FYI - be careful what you plant under the walnuts. They do tend to kill off a lot of plants under them.
nice
Have you looked for morels on the new property
Haven't seen any yet, but oh we hope we get some! Now is the time, so maybe soon!
Love the trees!!! What’s up next?
Wood splitting, home repairs, planting gardens, raised beds, fruit bushes, chicken coop.......
@@SSLFamilyDad can’t wait for the Chicken tree house… Sounds Awesome!
Planting trees next to the wall may seem ok now years down the road you will have root problem....
The best time to plant a (fruit) tree is ten years ago. Second best: let's do it today :)
Oh and not moving every 5 years also helps if you want to enjoy what you planted ^_^
I like this idea, but what is the average annual rainfall in your area and how do you keep the deer from completely destroying your plants?
Deer could be an issue here, we will have to see what happens and adapt, the trees we got are 7 or 8ft tall so they normally just eat the bottom branches and leave the tree to grow taller
I’ve used snow fence in the winter when the deer are starving for twigs and bark. My first time planting rabbits or something ate bark around the bottom of my two apple trees and killed them. Winter seems like the worst time but this first winter they’ve survived.
Those trees look a bit too close to the steps and as they grow the branches will get in the way so will need constant pruning. If you want them to go to full size, they'll look lop sided if you prune one side heavily. It may be worth thinking about moving them further, while you can.
Hi guys, I have a podcast called “self sufficient hub “ and I wondered if you’d fancy coming on as guests to talk about your homestead?
Can you plant fruit trees in Autumn or is Spring better? In Michigan. Apple, Peach, Plum, Cherry, & Pear
Spring and fall are both good times
Blueberries on the retaining wall?
Thinking about putting some blueberries and other fruit bushes all along the stairs also
@@SSLFamilyDad If you go with blackberries or raspberries make sure they are thorn less verities, I won't make that mistake again.
Long time no see.
That might be a Garden Weasel hand tool.
Hello, I was here. First :)
Planted so many fruit trees with no fruit to bare yet.
We have gotten some but mainly we have been planting orchards for other people to enjoy at this point, lol
Left side of your steps looks like pachysandra, not ivy
Excuse my ignorance. I noticed that you’re using the term “homestead”. What exactly does that mean?
You can Google the term...the pandemic has caused people to live in the woods...off the grid. Sustainable living in unincorporated lands, you can buy for cheap, could be government owned or private property. Several people who did have channels in youtube. Requires a lot of work, but it's awesome!
Starting a HOMESTEAD?? Do this first. Get a piece of land , free from the government. Make improvement's to the property. Report your progress to the government annually. Seems everyone who plants a tree, or raises a chicken. Thinks they have a HOMESTEAD. If your driveway connects to a paved road, or you can see your neighbors house ?? You do not even come close to a homestead.
Oh boy.
Modern homesteading then since that act is no more? Country living? Sustainable living? We all get the point....growing as much food ourselves as we can in a more natural and sustainable way. Being faithful stewards of our bodies and the land.
Chill out dude. We’re all on the same side. Better to live like this than in an urban metropolis, right?
You sound like a real peach.
