Thank you all for joining me, this video shows the construction of the side porch starting with the footers. I'll wrap up the project in the next video with building the stairs, decking and rails. A small porch like this is a great project that takes a few days but makes a world of difference.

I was wondering what those were... I have never heard of them but it reminded me of the Sylvanian toys from the show Pen15 on Hulu... They look almost identical.

It looks a lot better than I imagined and matches the other side nicely. Well done!

There's a street light right in front of the house, I don't know how I'd feel about it if I lived there but it has been handy while working at night.

I would suggest, though, cutting the hedges down below your nice railing. ....to, well, ....show off the nice railing. LOL 😂

What was the reasoning in not just extending the front porch all the way over? I know the electrical is there but you could have trimmed around it and even extended the roof.
Great video, though I have to tell you, I'm a front porch lover. I would have blown your whole budget on making that one big porch with a front porch swing. Lol. Doing the hard work of digging in real time then speeding up for the rest was very smart videography 👍. And I'm super impressed you tackled this big job on your own. Wow! I think it's going to look real nice in the end. This was my first time watching🤷.

I'm surprised/disappointed that you did not set some brackets in the concrete while it was wet. But as a friend of mine pointed out around here that would not be allowed due to the proximity of the porch to access the meter on the house.

Yea, thanks to Dr John S Nelson and he's group, about six months of trading, I'm able to grow my portfolio too with his new strategy it's been profitable and a life changing, i can also remember my friends calling me crazy when I started my first investment, now I shut them by having them plead for me to get them referred.
That is some really good soil on that property. But it is of no value for you because that would not be a part of your intention for this place. Reminds me of the soil around where my mother grew up. Harnett County. NC.
I was told by multiple people on the street that gardens do very well. It looks like potting soil in many places, and you have to dig pretty far to hit clay.
@@homemadehome5575 I did notice when you were digging down further in the ground you were bringing up clay. I know you have wrestled with what to do that side of the house. I am glad that you have come to some resolution.
It is brilliant, what a great improvement. But b/c I think whoever lives there will be using that door to bring in stuff(GROCERIES etc.) I would of put a roof on it but that is just me.
The final staircase looks really nice (I viewed the thumbnail), I just wonder - will you be building a roof above it as well? Otherwise rain will probably take it's toll on it...

As soon as I saw you lop off those posts I felt a pain! A pain in the wallet for probably working too late and making bad decisions, Those posts are not cheap right now! But I've been there done that!
You should consider getting your PHD. I use my Post Hole Digger all the time.
I’m not a fan of them if i can get away with using a shovel.

Concrete, should be above the ground, and then to it to attach bars. And you're going to fill them up with earth again, and everything's going to rot.

Why wouldn’t you connect the porch to the other to make it whole? It would look better!
If you build a porch in the future, especially one of any size always notch your posts to accept the band joists. never use through bolts, they act as a log splitter. A friend didn't believe me so I took a threaded rod suspended it and drove a 4x4 through it with a hammer. The weight of a bigger porch just in material is a lot, then add 20 people, furniture and it could be heartbreak. Also never lag one to a house. Use bolts, nuts and washers.

I think I would not have added the extra entrance and that useless narrow room and porch. I would have taken out the living room wall to make the Front room larger since it is so small.
I don't see it as useless. I have a small room like this in my house and like it a lot. The extra entrance is nice as well, from simply being a direct path to the kitchen to the house is on fire and you run out the other door.There is always a different/better way to do things but situations dictate what you do.

I just thought this might interest you: painters almost never paint the bottom edge of steel doors and eventually the wooden frame will rot and the steel will rust. I've been removing the rotten wood and rusted steel and using Bondo to fill in the missing wood and repair the rusted steel. Naturally you have to prime and paint afterwards but it works well.
I put up some new shelving in my closets this weekend and I was the Homemade Home lol
All the scrap wood is now worth more than the entire house lol.
