The relationship between Herzog and Kinski was insane, with repeated, literal death threats exchanged. Although I'm glad he got on better with Cage, them two busting up would have been epic.
Courage. That is what sets Herzog apart from others. He explained it, in his 24point list. In some cases, besides Herzog it is not even a priority. As in education for example. Did you go through 15 or 9 or 22 years of education? It doesn't matter, not a single lesson or grade was devoted to you, regarding your courage.

I think the problem is he just loves movies and acting in movies and doesn't have a very good nose for what will be good and what will be bad (yes probably due to cocaine ahh). Also I think he needs a good director that will work to his strengths. The most recent film I think he was good in was Mandy, I think he was perfectly cast for that role.
He bought many white elephants which he can't get rid of. He frittered away his money and bought to many castles and mansions nobody wants to buy at the moment. So he keeps on paying taxes on them. Now he has to act in anything he can get. Just like Johnny Depp.
He went off the deep end for a while there, a combination of not caring what the movie would do to his image as long as he was having fun with it and having to take on multiple crappy but high-paying jobs to work off his tax debts. I'm really glad to see him get back to the top again with masterpieces like Pig, Mandy, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, cause deep down he's a brilliant actor who deserves to be remembered for more than just the memes...
Interesting to contrast Werner's bliss of evil with Hannah Arendts banality of evil. The latter is quite disempowering while the bliss of evil screems out emancipation. Both ignore all of the reasons for evil but one just embraces it to the fullest.
At least Nic Cage can get through one day without harassing other people in the most narcissistic and psychopathic way. Kinski is getting wayyyyy too much credit. The fact that his career today would be ended within a week is a clear sign of social progress.
Why can't he afford to turn down work? It's clear from interviews with him that he loves to work--he's a "working actor." I think he'd rather make a mediocre movie than sit by the pool in Malibu or do another charity event. You gotta respect that.

Cage didn't even like working with him. Herzog asked Cage what kind of white powder he used in 1 of the cocaine scenes and Cage was like you are going to ask me this now!? While we are going to do the scene!? It took him out of the mindset of the character.
I don't know how that would take him "out of the mind of the character." Unless it was real cocaine and Cage was worried Herzog would take it away from him, in which case, the problem really lies with Cage as you're not supposed to get high to play high, because then it's no longer ACTING.
Nic does his best work if you let him go wild. I think this guy is arrogant. Look at Moonstruck, Leaving Las Vegas or Wild at Heart and try to remember Nicolas is a Coppela. I did like the Iguanas in the film though. Nic just likes to do a good job.
Saying a great film director is "arrogant" is like saying a swimmer has broad shoulders--it goes with the job. What they do with that arrogance is what counts (and whether they still manage to treat people as human beings and, not as Hitchcock described his actors, as "cattle"). Am I the only one who thinks Nicholas Cage is a really bad actor? I've never liked him in anything. I like some of his movies, like Con Air (it's fun), but I still think he's a horribly corny line-deliverer in them. He overacts, in my opinion.

I think the problem is he just loves movies and acting in movies and doesn't have a very good nose for what will be good and what will be bad (yes probably due to cocaine ahh). Also I think he needs a good director that will work to his strengths.
The most recent film I think he was good in was Mandy, I think he was perfectly cast for that role.

Cage didn't even like working with him. Herzog asked Cage what kind of white powder he used in 1 of the cocaine scenes and Cage was like you are going to ask me this now!? While we are going to do the scene!? It took him out of the mindset of the character.
I don't know how that would take him "out of the mind of the character." Unless it was real cocaine and Cage was worried Herzog would take it away from him, in which case, the problem really lies with Cage as you're not supposed to get high to play high, because then it's no longer ACTING.

What they do with that arrogance is what counts (and whether they still manage to treat people as human beings and, not as Hitchcock described his actors, as "cattle").
