  • Dr. Rowe shows the half-somersault (aka Foster) maneuver.
    This exercise is great for helping with BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo). It's easy to do, requires no equipment, and may give quick vertigo relief.
    Let us know how it works for you!

      I had vertigo a few weeks back for several days after an ear infection. I wish I found this maneuver around that time. I did this exercise I found on YT where you lie on your back and extend your head off an edge of a pillow. You start on with your head on the non-spinning side head tilted then tilt head back roll over and end up the spinning side (maybe I got it reversed). But none of the maneuvers on the back helped me unfortunately. I had It for 4 days and could barely walk I was so dizzy.

Last time I had a spell my doctor prescribed me Scopolamine patch to put behind ear and that did the trick I stopped spinning and vomiting! I occasionally get vertigo. I’ve had it for the last two weeks. I tried the Epley maneuver and it didn’t help. I did this video today and it worked! Granted, it’s rough to get through. The last move where you sit back up, the room was spinning a good 30 seconds and I was nauseous for a while after, but I’m feeling so much better and no dizziness at all 🥳

    So my wife on 01/28/2024 woke up at 7:00 am and was experiencing severe vertigo-like symptoms, having issues with spinning visually and her body and head being unstable. This continued for over 3 hours (intermittent gaps where she was fine if not moving). I researched options to help and came across this video. Finally got her to do it and it almost immediately started helping! We had her do this exercise three times in like 10 minutes, about 5 minutes after the last she was in MUCH better shape. Highly suggest and we are incredibly grateful for the content!

      The carol foster maneuver always worked for me. But this last go round it doesn’t seem to be working. So I went to my ent. He did some positioning in the office but that didn’t help either. He gave me instructions with the Eply maneuver to do at home. I’ve been doing it for a few days and I swear it has made my vertigo WORSE! I mean to the point that while driving I had to pull over and call my husband to come get my spinning arse…I mean head.

    • @lisabeaumont
      @lisabeaumont 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@sonnybaker8100 Oh dear, I'm so sorry you're suffering and that this manoeuvre is no longer working for you - vertigo really is the worst! Eply always made me worse, too - I'd vomit and spin and then feel nauseated for days. Here are some further things that worked for me: chewing tiny bites of fresh ginger (not ginger biscuits, not ginger tea, not things infused with or tasting of ginger, but ACTUAL ginger root) always effectively and instantly shifted the nausea in a way nothing else could. Then I changed my diet for a week - it was extremely hard but it made me healthier than ever, spinning totally gone, etc. I ate no sugar, no carbohydrates, nothing processed at all, no tea nor coffee, and only ate clean fresh fruit and vegetables (and a tiny bit of canned fish after a few days on top of the salad), clean pure water, and pure fruit juice, and I also did urine therapy (yes, I know that's shocking but it worked and frankly I would have done pretty much anything at that point). What this diet does is give the body the very best conditions to heal itself of whatever ailments are going on. I sincerely hope this helps you. xx

      Hey Doc, can this be used with any kind of dizzy spell I might be experiencing, even one of unknown origin? In the last month or so, I've had four visual disturbances that affect my vision on the left side of my visual field. But I've had two dizzy spells while I was just standing in the kitchen, looking at mail or reading my phone, not doing anything in particular. I have an appointment to see an ophthalmologist, but I can't get in till next month! I was thinking that if I had more than a short episode, or if I actually lost my balance or fell down, that I would go to the hospital. But that's so expensive that it would have to be more serious.

    We Muslims... Our prayer makes us draw closer to God. It also makes us get rid of all diseases. It is like a group of movements. There is a movement like this, and we cannot pray without washing and purifying ourselves from anything.. It is a prayer that God commanded us to do 1400 years ago.. You can imagine. This is a great miracle

    There is nothing in life that's quite like vertigo! I haven't had it in quite a while, but I will try to remember this video when it hits again...which it certainly will! I have never had to be treated because it has always gone away after a long nap, but my husband had it so bad most of one summer. He did go to 2 different physical therapists and the girl at Mercy pt fixed him the 1st time he went to see her. It never returned after her procedure. I don't know what it was called, but it certainly worked for him.

    I have Vertigo. ENT sent me to physical therapy. Mostly didn’t help. ENT said I had BPPV. Physical therapist said I didn’t. Went back to ENT, he said no, I had vestibular and sent me to hearing doctor for test. ENT said I did have some inner ear problems. Sent me to therapy for that. I was doing really well. Slightly off balance, sometimes, but seldom dizzy. PT lady wasn’t satisfied that I wasn’t dizzy with the vestibular exercises, so she wanted to test me for BPPV. She had lay down on my right side, real fast. I got so dizzy, I was almost sick. Since she did that last September, I have had almost constant dizziness. She gave me some exercises to try at home and I was down for three days after doing them. I stopped therapy, stopped doing those exercises and am trying to figure this out myself. I am slightly better. Damn! I hate this. I did try this, but didn’t get down on the floor. I have a bad knee and I’m 72. So, I am going to try again. The only time I get severely dizzy is looking up, to my left. Not just to the left. Thanks for the video and any suggestions about the looking up to the left part.

      I hope you get better. If you have positional vertigo, while lying down, a wedge pillow helped me. I can’t lie flat or I get dizzy when laying on right side. The slight incline of wedge pillow helps keep me slightly inclined. There are different heights, I got the lowest. Also I don’t lay on my right side and turn over anymore. Praying this can help you. Also ginger helps with nausea and is said to help with the dizziness. A lot of info on internet ❤
