    Wow I had never heard of this before. It sounds like Kathy absolutely wanted the man to attack and sexually assault Janice. She went as far as to say for him to continue with the act even if she was saying no. That is horrible.

      I'm not sure murder is necessarily a likely progress for such a pattern, but it leaves me wondering what other sorts of manipulative/coercive/abusive behaviors she might have done in the past that never were made public to a comparable extent. I'd imagine it would be somewhat more of a pattern (and this case hopefully its extreme), to some degree, rather than a one-time thing that came completely out of nowhere.

    How could Kathy's solicitations be consensual? SHE'S not the one who has to give consent here. There's a third party here that was NEVER ASKED FOR THEIR CONSENT and that's the only part that should matter. What the heck was that judge thinking?!

She may have convinced herself that if she could just get that house everything would be ok… or at least one thing, since sooo much was wrong. I can imagine the reason she wasn’t sleeping was because she was dwelling on those thoughts. At some point she might have tried to “re-empower herself” with fantasies about her getting even… the more she obsessed about it, and the less she slept, the more possible it all seemed. This. I mean, you're allowed to fall in love with a house or what the house looks like, but to obsess about it and then make things difficult for the new owners who bought it because they also fell in love with it is rather alarming behaviour. There are other houses that will look exactly like your dream house or have the same concept that you want, all you have to do is keep looking. One house falls through isn't the end of life for future homeowners.

    Carmel Valley being an upscale neighborhood is an overstatement. However, it's a good place to raise your kids because most schools have the highest rating. There are tons of single-floor houses and something doesn't add up about how exactly Kathy Rowe was house-hunting by visiting a hundred open-houses.
    You don't need a real estate agent working for you to visit an open house, that's the whole point.
    Swimming pool is not a luxury in Carmel Valley, we were actually looking for a single-floor house without a pool and had difficulty finding one.
    She probably saw a house she liked but it could already have offers and then an offer was accepted and the sale was pending. She missed out. From there on, she went full psycho.

Perhaps her anger was just misdirected and she should have been ordering magazines for the stupid real estate agent or title company?...Or just use that 100 G for a fantastic trip for herself and her daughter, then regroup...IDK. This case really puzzles me. If she found that house, she could have easily found another one. She terrorized this couple, and then found a house a mile away from them? Talk about adding insult to injury! She knew exactly what she was doing, and that someone could get hurt. I don't believe a word she or the mental health professional says. She was too organized and did it for way too long. She should have been barred from buying a home that close to her victims.

      I live in San Diego, and I’ll bet that, if she lived only a mile away from that house, her house now is probably close to identical. So many of those developments are cookie cutter neighborhoods.
      After buying a house here in San Diego a couple of years ago, though, I can say that it is _hard_ to find a place. There is always tough competition between buyers, and there are a couple of places we lost that we were really interested in. That really sucked. We dealt with it by griping to each other for a while, then focusing on looking at more houses. I can’t believe that woman used all that energy to torment the family when she was seriously interested in buying a house. And supposedly sleep deprived. 🙄

    • @LDiamondz
      @LDiamondz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mkuti-childress3625 Yes, when you're looking in a desirable area, there's going to be competition. When we bought our first house, we had to look at about 40 houses before we bought one. Like you, we made offers for quite a few, and were outbid. We were frustrated, a bit, and complained about it. Then just kept looking. It's not personal! It's a sale. This woman took it personally and really went off the deep end. I could never see myself doing any of the nonsense she did. Just keep looking! SMH.

She tried to mess up the lives of two people that were innocent and just bought a home, and instead of being able to celebrate this achievement, they were instead terrorised in their own home by somebody who was jealous and spiteful and just plain evil. She even sent men to terrorise the woman of the house and one had shown up at the home to try to force his way into the home because he thought that like her ad said, that she was playing hard to get.

    I really wonder what happens in a person's mind like this, regardless of life stress. A long time ago, my wife worked with a woman who lost her mind and thought we were 'meant to be together'. Told my wife and I she was pregnant by me and she was waiting for me to come get her, etc. Which would be a neat trick - I can't have kids of my own.
    Long story short: I'd never even met this person face to face. Apparently she saw me at the store once. Basically a nightmare of calls, emails, following, etc. Resorted to a restraining order that she kept breaking until she was finally arrested. I think she is still in a mental facility now. She was never even pregnant by anyone it turns out! Just so strange. I feel bad for her, but I always wondered - why me of all people? Why wasn't it somebody she knew at work, or someone she actually knew in her life? How can you be obsessed over someone you've never even met? I'm just a dude, not some rockstar.

It’s one thing to cause them some annoyances but to actually engage in behavior which could have resulted in the wife being harmed is unconscionable.
    In the late 70s, my ex and I lost out on a house I really wanted. I called the seller and offered a higher price which I guess got our agent into trouble (oops). Never in my mind would I have thought to harass the new owners. Also, J raised three sons with ADD and the youngest has multiple developmental issues, so I understand stress. They didn't know who would want to harrass them, so they FINALLY retrieved that letter as a good lead to a suspect.

    One of the things I appreciate about you Dr. Grande is your humorous understatement. Seriously, stalking is a dangerous action in all it's elements.I believe that at the basis of stalking is obsession and obsessional thinking and behavior and deep desperation. Once someone feels they are being thwarted in their efforts to achieve something which they feel is necessary for their very existence, there's no telling where that could end. The stress of a disabled child can make one feel desperate and helpless. She probably feels she is a lifeline to her child. Stressors can break down the resistance to irrational thinking and actions. Lack of sleep is very difficult and can result in dire health consequences. BUT, it cannot be used as an excuse for an organized, onslaught of behavior which can lead to violence and death. Obsession, not letting go of something/someone, is very powerful. It takes on a life of its own. She needs treatment for her mental health and thinking. Vengefulness and contempt cannot be underestimated. Authorities should also take this stalking behavior very seriously. Great treatment of this case, Dr. Grande, as usual.
