Always a fun time talking star wars with these 2 guys! Thanks for having me on not one but TWO collider shows this week! woot woot! Fun times indeed! xx
Tiffany Smith Just checked out movie3some because I had to look up simon pegg calling Kristian a loser. That's a super fun little show! You and Kristian are hilarious together.
It's always a good week when I get to listen to you on Far Far Away and then see you on Jedi Council. You are the absolute best. Thanks for what you do
I love it when Mark starts cracking up because Kristian goes into "Dad mode." Then Mark calls him out on it. I so enjoy Mark, Kristian, and Tiffany's chemistry with each other. Great show guys!!
Great to see Tiffany back! A female presence is always welcome on these shows. And Kristian, I read Star Wars #7 yesterday; it is my favorite comic issue of any new Star Wars canon comic thus far (haven't read any of Kanan yet, though). From the moment Disney announced character spin-offs, my first cry was for an Obi-Wan movie. And literally *everything* you said sounded exactly like me that you had me fist-pumping, lol. The bright spot in the prequels was by far Ewan as Obi-Wan (even though I think the prequels had other redeeming factors), and The Clone Wars represented him perfectly and further developed him. Obi-Wan might be my favorite character of the entire Star Wars Saga, and this issue was *everything* I hoped for. I hope his journal doesn't end there, because I desperately want to read more. Ewan wants to come back and fans want this, so an Obi-Wan spin-off b/t Episodes III and IV has to be in discussion at Lucasfilm. I also really want to see his already great Obi-Wan under better direction and writing (love George Lucas, but let's be real here).
I totally agree! Obi-Wan is amazing! I'm personally hoping for a trilogy of Obi-Wan movies, the first featuring Qui Gon and young Obi Wan during the Mandalorian Civil War before TPM, the second being a live action Clone Wars movie, and the third about Obi Wan on Tatooine.
For the record (if you haven't found out already) Spotlight is an actors organisation/membership (not quite a union thing) that is used in the UK for actors to find roles and list their credits for agents and such to find them.
i love tiffany smith, such a great host, extremely knowledgeable in all things film. ik she's super busy but please try with all your might to get her on more. thanks for the great stuff guys, keep it up!
WAIT The new Star Wars has practical effects? No wayyyy, Ive only heard that 100 times. Disney we get it, its not the damn prequels.....and Harloff Bring on Ken Napsac!!!!!!
Judging by how the prequels used a ton of miniatures and plenty of sets as well, each one probably had about as many shots that were COMPLETELY CGI. But, like the prequels, episode 7 is most likely going to have plenty of shots that are using miniature and/or sets with lots of CGI enhancements. There is still no doubt that there is going to be a ton of CGI in the Force Awakens.
RE: the new Obi-Wan comic. Read it the day it came out, Kristian. Love it! I want to read more about what happened to him while he was hiding on Tatooine watching over Luke. I also would love to see a movie with Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan during this time period.
I love that you guys got some new blood on some of these shows. Tiffany is totally awesome and I'll watch her anywhere she pops up. It's really nice seeing different people come in to give their unique views and opinions on topics that I love.
I love that you guys are all legit Star Wars fans and not just some clueless movie reviewers trying to make sense of everything! And Tiffany needs to do another show w/ you guys!
To answer your question, Tiffany. Spotlight is a UK casting site (which normally includes a lot of the big named British actors). And on this occasion, as is normal when using the site, it looks like either the actor or his agent has listed his role in Star Wars 7. Now, whether he (or she) was meant to is another story - www.spotlight.com/
I read the Star Wars comic issue #7 and I totally agree. It set a tone and showed the possibilities that made me think a movie is totally necessary. Actually, a trilogy of movies would do Obi-wan justice.
I'm with Tiffany, I don't really care about the whole CGI shots story. As long as the movie looks good I could care less about the number of special effects and what's CGI and what's practical effects, we know they're making a good balance between the two already!
I'd be willing to bet money that when that crawl starts at the beginning of TFA, it's going to say Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Also, I'm of the opinion that the episodic films should be the continuing story of the Skywalkers, and I think these new younger characters will be just that. One maybe two of these characters are going to be Skywalker progeny, I just know it.
Meant co host sorry. I'm not aware of some of these things that are announced if not announced on Collider. I only watch Heroes and movie talk if the tabs to the left interest me. I skip to the parts that do interest me so it's hard for me to catch if someone will be gone for a specific show. But thanks for letting me know what he's doing with Schnepp. I'm very aware he does a lot and most of the shows. He deserves credit and am not trying to hate on him or offend him. It's just annoying when the last episode of Jedi council Kristin said that John will be back and he's not. No hate intended to Kristin. This happened before so that's why I'm concerned. You have to remember that I'm asking this because I love hearing Johns opinions on topics and love when he's on the show. I don't want to come across as selfish either. He deserves the rest. I'm aware of that. I'm just again, concerned.
***** For me, yes, he does. Not because I'm DEMANDING HIS PRESENCE, but because I don't enjoy Jedi Council (or Movie Talk, for that matter) without him.
Want to see on Netflix: 1. Darth Maul or Darth Bane 2. Omega Squad from Star Wars: Republic Commando book series by Karen Traviss; an in canon group. 3. Boba Fett/ bounty hunters, to introduce Mandalorian lore and the gritty underworld of Star Wars.
Simon Pegg and probably a bunch of other stars are in this movie for one reason: Remember that Lupita N'yongo is a CGI character in Episode VII. Nobody can name the actors behind the alien creatures in previous films.
In the Rogue One movie, it is going to be hard to show Senator Organa without Jimmy Smits playing the role. It would be kind of like watching Raiders of the Lost Ark with Harrison Ford, then watching Temple of Doom with Sydney Poitier playing Indie.
I'm not to worried about the apparent lack of CGI, but it does sound like we may be missing some good CGI opportunities though. I know we can't get absolutely everything we want; we're getting a lot already, so I'm not upset. I'm sure we'll get plenty of both
They could show the trailer at D23, then release it to the public just a couple weeks later on Force Friday. Also, I doubt Mark Hamill is filming anything on that island, because last I saw, he hadn't regrown his beard. Unless, of course, he shaves it off by the end of TFA.
Highly doubt we will see 2 trailers at D23 of Captain America CW and Star Wars FA Likely it will be just one either a Captain CW teaser trailer or trailer 3 for Star Wars FA
1:44: Mark Ellis, begging the question is not synonymous with raising the question. It proposes a premise that starts with the conclusion of what is being brought forth. It's an informal fallacy. EDIT: Great discussion though. :3
Well J.J. Abrams might have only said Episode 7 because that was on the first day of shooting, they might not have had "The Force Awakens" title settled on at the time.
I really don't think we're getting a "TRAILER" for The Force Awakens an D23, but I think we WILL get the Movie Poster! I'm with Tiffany, "We don't need a trailer (at D23)" I'm still selling my kidney to see it! I want more on Rouge 1 at D23!
I think the very obvious reason for them not referring to The Force Awakens as Episode VII all that much is the mess that is the prequels. All of those movies were referred to by episode number more than actual titles and they want to make sure people know these new films are going to be more like the originals than the prequels.
No Kristian, you are not out of your mind. The Ewan McGregor as Ben Kenobi movie must happen, or perhaps even better him as the star of the Tatooine Chronicles on Netflix!
I would love to have an Obi-Won movie. Ewan McGregor already said in an interview that he would do a film if asked. I would love to see what adventures he went on and his life after Revenge of the Sith.
My lord..If they announced Ewan Mcgregor will be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, i would do a triple back-flip drop into a split and do the cabbage patch dance. Ewan was the best part of the prequels, He had me so impressed in Ep. 1..i was like, omg yea i see a young Alec Guiness..By Ep. 3...my goodness..he WAS Sir Alec, reincarnated. I love the way he purposely crafted his performance over time.
I liked the Obi Wan issue. Was mad that it took so long but I did like it. A Ben-centric book would be great, in a run like they are doing with 'Lando'. A movie or Netflix series would be better tho.
Would love a Star Wars netflix show later down the road, I'm still sticking with what Kristian said when Bobo Fett movie was announced. Should've been a Netflix show, would have been fantastic
i would really like to see ewan mcgregor back as obi wan, he did good with the little direction he was given on the prequels but i think he can really do a great job
For the force awakens at d23 they will probably show the trailer there and because its disney they will have big restrictions there for no leaks to happen and then probably like a couple weeks to a month after d23 will be the release of the final trailer.
Great show guys. What do you think about Liam Nesson coming back as a Force Ghost? Wasn't Qui-gon Gin the 1st Jedi to do that? End of Ep3, Yoda/Obi-wan conversation?
I think Netflix should do a series similar to Firefly meets 1313, show it on hutta or someplace and have it wired into the mainstream without having an effect that's both ways. I own Star Wars Uprising you make a smuggler stuck in the anoat system under imperial Blockade, its diablo style and i wish steam would release it on PC. There is speech bubbles so yeah lots of reading its worth playing :)
I have had Uprising for weeks now, I am in Australia. It's not bad, granted, I am not huge on mobile games. I do not pay for upgrades and that so, now if I die, I give up because a real money purchased currency is what revives you. That said, I am also not as full on of a Star Wars fan, so how it ties in, is a little over my head especially cos I don't have the patience to finish it. I am hanging out for The Council's take on it though. Another top episode guys, I can't get enough of Tiffany, she is amazing, I'd even let her friendzone me...ok I wouldn't, that would suck! Kristian and Mark are top blokes too!! Cheers Guys, from Brisbane Australia!
Okay, I've learned to live with the reality that we're not getting either Thrawn or Mara Jade, but the Solos and Skywalkers cannot be a five minute "wave and walk off." If that happens Episode 7 will be another Episode 1 to me.
Does anyone else think Rey will turn to the dark side in Episode 8? I don't think that they could make a twist that'll rival that of Vader's, or maybe they could, but I have a weird feeling that Rey'll end up turning after realising Kylo is her brother or something.
I definitely think they are siblings. If she goes dark .... meh. I need to see TFA first to comment on it. If they do it correctly and it makes sense then I'm on board. As long as it's not just to rival the Vader reveal. But I think someone will turn dark for sure. Oh and I also hope if someone does turn dark I want them to die dark. I don't want any redemption crap. My only concern is making the turn convincing and real unlike Anakin's turn in the prequals.
Donny St.Pierre I think Rian Johnson has the ability, in regards to directing ability, to make someone's turn to the dark side really compelling and unforced. I think whoever does turn to the dark-side will probably die, or do a Revan sorta thing, where he just disappears or goes to face the true threat, leaving the opportunity for a future role in place.
Donny St.Pierre I kinda have a few theories; it really could go any way. I used to believe that there'll be a Sith Army vs Jedi initiates (both of whom have had no substantial training), led by powerful figures on both sides, but I'm skeptical about that now. I think it could happen, especially since there's been an "awakening", so a lot of dudes may have suddenly come to the realisation that they have the force. Some will be recruited by Snoke/Kylo, some by Luke etc. Another theory I have is that the role Del Toro is rumoured for, might actually be a Thrawn like figure, not necessarily him per se. Though, this isn't specifically in relation to the Sith, but it could feature in it. It'd be weird adding him so late in the game, but I think Hux (Domnhall Gleeson's character) will die, and'll be replaced by him. As for Snoke, is he Plageuis? Maybe. It'd be a nice way in connecting the entire Star Wars series as he set the entire Star Wars series in motion--if he did indeed create Anakin indirectly. Or, even weirder, is Snoke actually Ezra? Crackpot, really crackpot, but imagine if Ezra become some sort of cyborg or infused with Sith sorcery, hence Serkis needing the mo-cap. His last name: Bridger still gets to me. Is he the bridge between old and new? He's born on the same day as Luke and Leia, so all that force (fuck midichlorians XD) had to go somewhere. He could be extremely powerful. Plus, there was concept art on a cyborg sorta character that was thought to be Von Sydow's character, but I believe that's probably Snoke. Some say Ezra might be Kylo's father; Ren being pissed off that his father didn't get the recognition he deserved by the Rebels as well as Ren sounding similar to (Sabine) "Wren." Unlikely though, as it's more compelling to have Ren be Rey's brother. What do you think'll happen? I'd like to hear other thoughts on possible Sith routes.
I can see Kristian's point. The Marvel movies are sort of predicated upon the Characters. Cap America, Thor, etc. are what sell the movies. And while you can have Mark Hamill play a young luke in the 70's, and play an older Luke in 2015, you can't have Chris Hemsworth play Thor over a 40 year time frame. In that regards, I think the story telling for the Star Wars universe is unlimited. In order for Marvel to tell new stories, it will require a reboot at some point. Whereas Star Wars can be a continuous unbroken narrative, since, at least for me anyway, Star Wars universe is bigger than the individual characters. Where Marvel is their characters. We'll never have to reboot Episode IV. At some point, we will have to reboot the MCU; unless Feige thinks the great lakes avengers can anchor a future phase.
Marvel has so much content and characters to pull from. They could make decades worth of films from just the amount of characters they have. Marvel has a far more rich mythology than Star Wars and only someone who isn't familiar with the Marvel universe would make such a claim.
I'm not sure that's the direction they want to take Star Wars. However, if they do make an R rated Star Wars I hope it will be a classic (like Alien or something) and not just dumb action with tons of blood sex and gore for no reason.
yeah Wow, talk about a pipe dream... The property is owned by DISNEY... What was it that made you think SW would be great for adults? Was it Jawas? Maybe it was Ewokes... No? Oh I know it's JarJar Binks... he just reeks of adult content.
no, but beheading of dooku, chopping off arms one by one, executing little children, torture, does that seem like adult content? Btw disney has done plenty of stuff that is not for children.
Best moment of the show, #tiffanysmith geeking out over playing Star Wars Uprising in Hobbiton in New Zealand! I'm convinced that Tiffany Smith is the coolest girl on the internet!
in regards to the amount of cgi in the force awakens, Im afraid that jj and crew will go too far in the other direction and not have enough cgi in the film, I don't want star wars to feel to small. i want a feeling a grandeur. lets not forget what hooked fans in the first place, The colossal star destroyer in the opening of a new hope. That scene had impact because at the time it was a cutting edge effect. for me the biggest problem with the prequels was the crappy writing and not the special effects. Using mainly practical effects feels almost as corporate, as exploiting cgi like the prequels did.
Collider Movie talk I really gotta disagree with Kristian on the idea that the Old Republic films wont work because of the new characters being presented because the way I see it Guardians was a tough sell and it paid off with awesome characters and script. It was because it sold alot on the Marvel brand and I have would have faith that the name recognition of Star Wars would power it big time. My reservation and other can share their opinions too if they would like but the reason I wouldn't make an old republic movie series would be that "What If" The Old Republic movies were widely more well received than the main series films to the point where people wanna see that more than episode VIII and IX. Any thoughts?
Always a fun time talking star wars with these 2 guys! Thanks for having me on not one but TWO collider shows this week! woot woot! Fun times indeed! xx
Tiffany Smith You are smart and beautiful and we all love you!!!
Tiffany Smith Just checked out movie3some because I had to look up simon pegg calling Kristian a loser. That's a super fun little show! You and Kristian are hilarious together.

love it when more people from Schmoes come on Collider! Maybe Ken can come on Jedi Council in the future

Tiff owning Harloff twice during twitter questions lol
WAIT The new Star Wars has practical effects? No wayyyy, Ive only heard that 100 times. Disney we get it, its not the damn prequels.....and Harloff Bring on Ken Napsac!!!!!!
Oh my god the throne room music on Jedi Alliance Monday nearly made me cry!
Donny St.Pierre Yea, end of great podcast.

This would be the right time to bring back Ewan Mcgregor. He fits the age perfectly.

Simon Pegg loves Star Trek just as much as he loves Star Wars. I'm sure he's having the time of his life being in both!
I love that you guys got some new blood on some of these shows. Tiffany is totally awesome and I'll watch her anywhere she pops up. It's really nice seeing different people come in to give their unique views and opinions on topics that I love.
@14:00-the character Harloff is talking about is Simon Pegg
I love that you guys are all legit Star Wars fans and not just some clueless movie reviewers trying to make sense of everything! And Tiffany needs to do another show w/ you guys!
I really, really would love to see an Old Republic show on Netflix.

rurutu M I hope there's so much lens flare that the lens flare has lens flare
i honestly dont get the whole lens flare thing, ive never noticed it during an Abrams production

Netflix shows:
1. Old Republic
2. Kenobi (starring Ewan McGregor)
3. Legacy
Why is John never here? Might as well not call him a permanent host
Christian is the host of jedi council
Qwertify cause he shoots a show all 7 days of the week and needs some personal time. Give the guy a break.
Meant co host sorry.

100% agree re: Star Wars #7! This was by far my most favorite issue of any of the Star Wars comics.
The Old Republic on Netflix... that might just be the greatest idea ive ever heard. As long as it has Game Of Thrones budget and that quality.
I have played uprising for almost 2 weeks here in Sweden.
They could show the trailer at D23, then release it to the public just a couple weeks later on Force Friday. Also, I doubt Mark Hamill is filming anything on that island, because last I saw, he hadn't regrown his beard. Unless, of course, he shaves it off by the end of TFA.

Highly doubt we will see 2 trailers at D23 of Captain America CW and Star Wars FA
Likely it will be just one either a Captain CW teaser trailer or trailer 3 for
Star Wars FA
I love the idea of netflix films,,, Netflix will rule the world in ten years time :)
rurutu M Google will never rule the world. Trust me, I googled it.
+Gacko54 I'm from England and it's really popular here as well!!
+Gacko54 I think it's great for TV series though look at daredevil how good is that!!!
+Gacko54 yea I agree but how great would a Star Wars TV show be maybe on a character like Lando or babo get or something
Happy to see Tiffany Smith on the panel with the boys.
So what exactly is a "pickup" in movie terms? just curious.
YES!!!! TIFFANY!!!!!!!!!! THE POWER OF FAR, FAR AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OPEN THE BLAST DOORS!!!!!!! CLOSE THE BLAST DOORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really don't think we're getting a "TRAILER" for The Force Awakens an D23, but I think we WILL get the Movie Poster! I'm with Tiffany, "We don't need a trailer (at D23)" I'm still selling my kidney to see it! I want more on Rouge 1 at D23!
I really don't give a thing about star wars anthology movies, comics, novels. and so on... But I am excited about Battlefront.
I think the very obvious reason for them not referring to The Force Awakens as Episode VII all that much is the mess that is the prequels. All of those movies were referred to by episode number more than actual titles and they want to make sure people know these new films are going to be more like the originals than the prequels.
I'm basically dying for an obi one movie. Love ewan!!
No Kristian, you are not out of your mind. The Ewan McGregor as Ben Kenobi movie must happen, or perhaps even better him as the star of the Tatooine Chronicles on Netflix!
Latest issue of Star Wars was awesome, Obi Wan was perfect. Marvel has been killing it lately.
I sooo want to see the Old Republic tv series! I have been fascinated with it ever since I can't remember! I love the idea!

that netflix series sounds like a must especially in the old republic setting
Tiffany Smith adds such a great dynamic to this show. Please have her back!
She's also a very lovely woman. 😍
What I want from D23: Civil War trailer
Spiderman costume
Force Awakens full trailer
Rouge one teaser
I liked the Obi Wan issue. Was mad that it took so long but I did like it. A Ben-centric book would be great, in a run like they are doing with 'Lando'. A movie or Netflix series would be better tho.

The next few years in the realm of movies is going to be wait for it..................Legendary!
man I'd kill for a TOR style imperial agent story in a live action TV show.
I totally agree with you guys on the Obi Wan comic and that we need a Ben Kenobi movie!!! This issue was great!
At what time do they get into Star Wars on Netflix?
I can see Harloff as the dad and Mark and Tiff as the siblings.
For the force awakens at d23 they will probably show the trailer there and because its disney they will have big restrictions there for no leaks to happen and then probably like a couple weeks to a month after d23 will be the release of the final trailer.
Tiffany! 😻

I really hope Ian McDiarmid is going to return as the Emperor in Rouge One.
As much as Kristian loves Star Wars he's pushing it by saying they have more rich history than Marvel.
+svrfan777 I am talking about years in the universe not as far as material goes
I agree. What do you think the sith scenario is going to be not just in TFA but in the whole trilogy?
I honestly think that GOTG 2's marketing will play off the fact that Star Wars will also be in theaters.
love these guys!
where is Ken going Kristian? Is he joining the Collider Crew? That would just be too perfect!!
I want Rogue One trailer to premiere with Force Awakens. That'd be huge.
I live in NZ and i am loving star wars uprising!!!
Love this line up on jedi council it should be a regular thing.
Love the Star Wars talk, thanks for another good episode.
DOOMED ! You're missing my point. I'm talking about a continuous unbroken narrative. You can't have a 75 year old Chris Evans playing Captain America.
I Just finish reading Star Wars: Honor Among Thieves before watching this episode, and after when the shows over I'm going to start Lords of the Sith.
I think this might be the first movie I watch in theaters then turn around and watch it again right when I get out. Here's for high hopes.
Great show, I'm loving me some Tiffany Smith! I hope you guys do some sort of live stream during D23.
Please let there be an r rated star wars series!
yeah HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!
Is Daredevil aligned with the MCU?
Hello from the future. Disney makes its own streaming service Disney Plus. They creat the Mandalorian and it is awesome
reminiscent of winter soldier/captain america vs red skull
Best moment of the show, #tiffanysmith geeking out over playing Star Wars Uprising in Hobbiton in New Zealand! I'm convinced that Tiffany Smith is the coolest girl on the internet!
Stop the press ! T.S. is on 2 shows this week start the rumors! This is awsome!!!! $$$$$$$!!
Wonderful seeing Tiffany Smith, and by all means I hope they make an Obi-Wan Anthology film. Let the powers at be make that happen :)
I know it's just a rumour but if it was a live action Netflix show, would it be like Daredevil in which have nearly a R rated show (TV-MA)
my mum interrupts me so many times when I am watching jedi council :(
Great episode folks!
in regards to the amount of cgi in the force awakens, Im afraid that jj and crew will go too far in the other direction and not have enough cgi in the film, I don't want star wars to feel to small. i want a feeling a grandeur. lets not forget what hooked fans in the first place, The colossal star destroyer in the opening of a new hope. That scene had impact because at the time it was a cutting edge effect. for me the biggest problem with the prequels was the crappy writing and not the special effects. Using mainly practical effects feels almost as corporate, as exploiting cgi like the prequels did.
never been so early to jedi council ... and now i have nothing useful to say
mk6rfc1 " Come at the King you best not miss"
Netflix Star Wars Old Republic show, heck yeah
LOVED THE SHOW YOU GUY'S KEEP ON DOING THE GREAT WORK AS ALWAYS
I want a Ywojimbo kind of Obi Wan movie.
I hope the plot of TFA doesn't mirror the OT trilogy too much... (don't misunderstand me, the OT is amazing, I just want a new story)
I was never really a big fan of Obi-Wan but issue #7 got me to care!! Seriously, I thought it was an amazing story!!!
