I adore this clip and have seen it countless times. I wish Measha performed these intensely romantic 19th century works more often. Her voice is heavenly as is her French.
Aside from the gorgeous instrument that she wields like a champ, I love the way she actually savors the language. Young singers...pay attention and learn.
I love her so very much.... she, to me represents a new breed of singer. One that has to so well versed in everything in order to keep the music relevant. That was truly a commanding performance. She is sooo very giving... I have the strong feeling that she left everything on the stage. whether it was technically sound or not, who cares it is already in the air! They criticized all the greats for some reason or other. Why should this lovely woman be an exception. leave it on the stage. i say!!
Cute story - Measha met her now-husband when he was an exchange student in her high school and when they married they took each other's names to make Brueggergosman
Most people wont agree with you, but I'm with you. When someone has a great technique the jaw and tongue should not be shaking. I'm sorry, most people don't want to hear the truth because if makes them feel that you're taking away from their favorite artist. I'm not taking away that she has a great voice, I love her voice myself, but it won't last if she doesn't change her teacher. Technique should be seamless and natural, not full of tensions.
I don't love her voice some of her top notes were not pleasant but she had cardiac surgery. Singers work their asses off to achieve this level. Tongue tension is often a result of jaw tension. I've seen other singers with this characteristic but over the long term I think it will cost her. There are moments of good singing but she's not memorable. Gorgeous woman lovely dress and jewelry. She's a happily married Mom.
Yes ,indeed the sound seems correct ,but it's not. The way to the top notes ,is blocked by this tension. Although ,she has the musicality for that. But in my opinion ,singing is above all technique. You think it's easy today to find a good teacher?
artistes like Measha and Netrebko breathe new life into this art form. they make it current and relevant to my generation...thank God for variety and newness, freshness of new verdant vegetables. Exquisite.
And she is a beautiful person. I met her at the airport a few weeks ago and she just dropped her luggage and chatted with me, she is gorgeous in person
@wl03bu Some say it's beautiful, some (including me) call it the most hideous Ice-hockey mask to every inhabit Copenhagen, but taste is undiscussable - and the inside of the new Opera House is wonderful - and the acoustics is incredible!
@violinlova Koncerthuset (trans. The Concert House) in Copenhagen, Denmark. It really should look good, seeing as it went about 1 billion dollars overbudget:P
Cet air chanté admirablement est un extrait de l'oratorio de Jules Massenet : LA VIERGE Il s'agit de la "Dormition de la Vierge", sa montée vers le Paradis : "Rêve infini, divine extase..."
this is very beautifull...I've never liked her that much until hearing this... she has matured beautifully... what is she singing?.. sounds like Massenet.
@actionsrlouder The jaw should at all times just hang, but the tongue MUST be free to move, that is the purpose of just letting it lie there. It must be relaxed and flexible in order to make the vowels. Her tongue is quite relaxed. Everybody's tongue move in the mouth when they are singing, otherwise it would be tense and tight. I really did not see any major problem with the jaw. I would have to see her close up and study her body build before I made any major comment. First hand: BRAVA!
@philipc67 I like her, but I think Measha scares people a little. As an emerging African American Opera Singer myself (with many years of experience also in Hollywood), I can attest to the fact that there is a very "fine line" between what is "likeable" vs. what is intimidating. I believe Measha's size, power & energy, while revered, are intimidating... similar to Jesseye Norman, who was also NEVER cast in Opera Productions. To whoever's reading this, no offense...just my humble opinion.
@SingerForLife3000 Actually Jessye Norman did sing on stage, especially when younger, think of her Aida, Alceste, Ariadne et al. Measha I agree is intimidating, and way oversings/overacts this piece, which should be peaceful, flowing and ecstatic. Look at Montserrat Caballe for the proper and recommended rendition.
@philipc67 ... I stand corrected re: Jesseye Norman. It seems she did perform MANY Operatic roles during her early career. However, I can only find records of her "concert performances" of "Aida." In all levels, however, Norman is a force to be reckoned with. Amazingly, she easily switch between Dramatic and Mezzo Soprano Leads... no mere feat! But, back to Meesha: I'm a fan of Messha, AND, now that I've heard it, I actually PREFER Caballe's verson of this particular piece. Divas RISE!
A beautiful voice and evident stage presence, why does she not sing operatic roles on stage? Yes, this is powerfully sung BUT...way way too oversung and overacted, really too glamorous when it shouldn't be. "La Vierge" can be loosely called an oratorio after all. She adds several high notes and extends phrases, so some appear strained and a couple og high notes go flat. Very impressive, though. For an idea of how this SHOULD be sung and look, refer to Montserrat Caballe in 1999, simply superb.
I just can not stop watching this video! Measha Brueggergosman : what a amazing performance. I am addicted to her! What a great singer.
This is an absolutely wonderful performance! I enjoyed this so much. What a beautiful artist with a voice to match!
I adore this clip and have seen it countless times. I wish Measha performed these intensely romantic 19th century works more often. Her voice is heavenly as is her French.
Stunning! Other-worldly singing and what a gorgeous instrument! Massenet was an absolute godly composer.
I bookmarked Brueggergosman's video and watch/listen to it regularly. I never tire of her performance. Brava Measha! Thank you Massenet.
Aside from the gorgeous instrument that she wields like a champ, I love the way she actually savors the language. Young singers...pay attention and learn.

I meet her a few weeks ago at the airport....she was sooooo sweet she stopped and spoke with me!!!!
Such a magnificent talent. I love her!
My GOD, that's gorgeous...the aria, the voice, the woman. I was transported...
Her voice is like warm and spicy honey. How absolutely devine!
I am lost for words.... 😦 What AWESOME talent! What a lesson! Such a beautiful woman and STUNNING VOICE!
Beautiful voice and beautiful person. She underwent a very important cardiac operation due to acute aortic dissection. What a comeback!
OH WOW!!!!! Fantasique, Measha! You are captivating! I had shivers all up and down my arms.
My God, What is this? This is absolutely unbelievable! Wonderful! A piece of heaven...
A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song. Match made in heaven.
It's so beautiful and touching! No words can express my feelings.
I love this woman. What a voice and what a unforgettable interpretation. Bravo!
Where have she been, this is the first time hearing her. What a beautiful voice.
What a fabulous piece of music.
Oh! I forgot to mention that Measha is strikingly beautiful. Her expressions are those of a true diva. Brava, La Divina!
She is a blast of energy, artistry and emotion, Amazing Measha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful woman. What a great artist. Such magnificent performance.
Fabulous. Just saw her on her Christmas tour last night. Amazing range.
I just saw her tonight singing Beethoven's 9th...powerful voice.
Measha Brueggergosman has a stunning and well paced voice. I love the way she builds to the climax of the piece.
Cute story - Measha met her now-husband when he was an exchange student in her high school and when they married they took each other's names to make Brueggergosman
That look on her face at the closing....!!! She was obviously lost in the song as much as we were mesmerized by her rendition!!!

I can't believe how much she's changed appearance wise~! But still dat great smile, and that voice...what a voice! ^_^
She has indeed a beautiful and powerful voice!
❤❤ Magnifique voix
That was beautiful...
Magnifique! Quelle belle voix!
artistes like Measha and Netrebko breathe new life into this art form. they make it current and relevant to my generation...thank God for variety and newness, freshness of new verdant vegetables. Exquisite.
Netrebko? Oh please... she is all hype. A great voice, an under-developed technique and continously bad repertoire choise. No thx!
A truly redemption to the Virgin masterly performed for Measha!
OMMGG...The music hall is incredible!!! what is the name??
Wow ,this must
sell out fast..
@philipc67 I stand corrected, on all levels. Measha is a beautiful singer. And, the Caballe rendition of this piece is sublime.
WOW!!!!!!!!!! That's pretty much all i can say. I am speechless. She kicked this one out of the ball park and around the world.
@SexxiChica011 You're right. She was born in New Brunswick (Canada), where both english and french are official languages.
An inspired performance from a brilliant artist.
And she is a beautiful person. I met her at the airport a few weeks ago and she just dropped her luggage and chatted with me, she is gorgeous in person
@wl03bu

So, how did your performance with the National Arts Centre Orchestra go?
@violinlova

her french is amazing(like no other)

Are you a vocal pedagogue?
i think this is beautiful....
From 7:38 to 7:46 => Heaven on Earth.
can't in english, do u speak german?
don't you also have that beautiful new opera house? the Danes have it all!
why didn't the audience explode? maybe they were crying too much and trying to wipe away their tears! i would be sobbing!
I'm a opera singer, thanks for asking :)
Umm, ok.
oh really?
that's how it should be
Unbelievable.

bravo
my cousin :)
I wonder why her tongue flaps as it does
Placement. Aids with vibrato.
she sings a horrible national anthem.
ABSOLUTELY OVERRATED
