20 years ago I got a Vader compilation CD and this song is on it. It was a blind buy and this was the song I liked best only to discover a short time later Mayhem did the original.
I'll just say this. There's a reason black metal works well with simple riffs and lofi production. I understand trying to be unique and original but there's a reason the original worked so well.
RoninWaffle It's a good interpretation, but it's not the same style at all. Piotr is singing an octave lower than Attila, with more fry, less distortion and less overtones... He is in the same spirit though.

Vader did a great job here. The instrumentals and production quality are absolute perfection. But that's exactly why i like the original better. It has darker vocals, and a raw agressive "underground" edge to the sound, due to the lower-quality. This cover sounds like highly produced modern blackened death. Reminds me of Belphegor.

good cover, but honnestly i prefer original, 'cause Mayhem's version was made for black metal. If Vader made Freezing moon from themself without mayhem version existing, i'm pretty sure i'll love this version like a love original version

Remember variable quality? Often sounded worse than 144k. I still have nightmares about some The Haunted demo song I dl'd as a teen, which averaged 90 something. Like listening to a poor live performance w/o audience inside a tin can. That made you rush to get the CD like nothing else.

This version sounds like the singer is tryin to sound like Attila more than Dead.. also another great Mayhem cover is Gorgoroth's cover of "Life Eternal"... It's fuckin dope...they play it in a lower key than Mayhem... The only thing about it that I didn't like is that they don't focus on that sick ass bass line which in my opinion along with the main guitar riff is just fuckin awesome musicianship.... Had Varg not murdered Euronymous I think the DMDS lineup would've made some more great albums had none of that shit happened.
