    Yep Korra didn't really have any friends growing up. Unlike the Avatars before her Korra was sheltered and secluded. She never traveled the world like her past lives. Korra to me is such a great character and her development is amazing. This show and Avatar mean the world to me. I really do hope you enjoy it's a beautiful show in my opinion.

    Korra grew up as a bending child prodigy, she learnt 3 elements on her own (mastered them with teachers of course). Now that she actually hits a wall at bending something she can't, she gets upset very quickly and can't muster the patience she's never needed before.

    When i see Korra trying to force her way into the airbending machine, i remember the episode where Aang learned earthbending
    Toph repeatedly told him that there was no other way to look at it, no other point of view, it was just gonig head to head with the earth and i think Korra does this type of approach with airbending, she just forces her way into it, trying to learning by sheer will, instead of adapt and change her approach like an airbender would

    17:30 Never realized this. The Avatars both were in their ideal opposite situation that would fit their personalities. Aang's passive nature and spiritual intelligence would be perfect for Korra's future endeavors. Korra's aggressive personality would've wanted to learn bending immediately, as Aang would rather ride Elephant Koi fish and turn mail systems into rollercoasters.

    As a huge Last Airbender fanboy, this episode is where I fell in love with this show. I love that Korra's most challenging element is Air, in contrast to past Avatars. Aang struggled with Earth, but we even saw in The Avatar and the Firelord that Roku claimed to struggle the most with Water. Simple bit of great characterization, building on the existing lore, that Korra is a native waterbender, but she absolutely does not struggle with Fire.
    Toph: That's the problem, you've got to stop thinking like an airbender. There no trickity-trick that'll move that rock. You've got to hit it head-on. And when I say head-on, I mean like THIS. *headbutts rock*
    Toddler Korra absolutely headbutted a rock.

    The interesting thing is that reason Korra's having so much trouble learning to Airbend, is pretty obvious but not outright stated. I don't know if saying what that is would count as a spoiler or not so....
    Her lack of freedom. If air is the element of freedom, then of course it would be difficult for someone who's never truly known what freedom is.

    I hadn't thought about it before, but Korra had an extremely sheltered childhood, much like Toph. Toph was as earthbender as you can get, so I wonder if the writers are trying to parallel that when it comes to Korra having an earthbender personality instead of waterbender, her native element.

    What people don't seem to get about the avatar is that being the avatar doesn't make you a stronger bender than others (unless in the avatar state), it simply gives you access to the other elements which makes the avatar stronger in a fight when all elements can be used. For pro-bending when she's only allowed to use one element it's perfectly fair, and if she's better than the opposing team's water bender, that has nothing to do with being the avatar, just her being good at it.

  • @RavenStillBeguiling
    @RavenStillBeguiling ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Korra spent her whole life confined, sheltered, just learning how to fight and bend. That's all she knows about being the avatar. Actually being in the real world, with all its greyness and complexities, will force her to develop not just as the avatar but as a person.

  • @blotto5
    @blotto5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Korra is such a good foil to Aang. Hotheaded and headstrong vs Aang's more reserved and calculated approach. Aang was also way more comfortable around people and more of an extrovert than Korra so it's nice to see Korra kinda go through the opposite of Aang's story. She's already a powerful bender but needs to learn to be more patient, while Aang's journey was learning and mastering the elements while already possessing that patience.

  • @DrJk4Lf
    @DrJk4Lf ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In short, its safe to say she was presented as the oppoaite of what Aang was at the start of the series. With each season we are peeling layers to her character , long term story telling

    Korra having all the elements but air is probably a side effect of how fast Aang had to learn those elements which is also why she has so much difficulty with air.

    I'm actually glad that you catch the fact that IF Aang and Korra were to trade their era, both of them would've done better than what they've got. Cuz you're right, Aang possess reason to be peaceful in a time of war, and Korra is a fighter in an era of peace.

    There's a theory that the next Avatar gets attributed with what the previous Avatar needed to revolve their issues. Imagine Korra replaced Aang in his time line. Instead of traveling to learn all 4 elements, she would have mastered three and she's combat orientated unlike Aang.

    • @jhedjoardumago7691
      @jhedjoardumago7691 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like a reasonable assumption. Kuruk was free flowing during a peaceful age and was not prepared for Koh, then Kiyoshi lived in an age of a Tyrant and kept her too rigid and strict. Unlike her, Roku made friends, but his unwillingness to sacrifice his friendship for the world became his downfall but Roku did not run away from it. Meanwhile Aang ran away from a really big responsibility being the youngest to be told they're the avatar. Korra is then too headstrong compared to Aang who is a pacifist.

    I don’t know if you already got this comment, but technically Korra has the personality of an earth bender because earth is the opposite of air (sidenote: I actually like this explanation of the opposite element theory because it ties the avatar to the own character, rather than what nation they originally from)

    3:26 is more like an earthbender. Here is the thing, bendings have personality. Just like uncle iroh said in that book 2 in which he described the personality of people from every nation and how it is related to their bending. In this case, korra has an earth bender personallity

  • @ladychrya9379
    @ladychrya9379 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a theory. Since Aang died when Azula used lightning on him (at the end of season 2 of the Last Airbender series), it left a scar not only on himself but also in the Avatar cycle. Which is probably why Korra is having such a hard time with Airbending

    The Avatar isn't innately any more powerful at any single element then any other bender. They may get creative with the movements using the styles and technics of other elements and the Avatar State does boost their bending when active, but when they are normal just using a single element they're generally gonna be just as good as any other bender who put in the same amount of practice and training. It's the fact that they can use other elements and other styles that makes the Avatar so powerful, they can generally have a counter to any bender. "It is the combination of the four elements in one person that makes the Avatar so powerful." -Iroh Book 2 Chapter 9 "Bitter Work"

    I was thinking while watching last episodes reaction. They trained her to be a warrior, focusing on fighting with her bending. Avatar is the best animated show in the world to a lot of people, and while korra is really good as well, it’s just not at that level. As i’ve gotten older i’ve fallen in love with TLOK and appreciated how good it is in its own right. The world building/world development is generally really well done, the characters are interesting and they have interesting growth journeys, the villains are terrifying, etc. The last scene of amon in season 1 lives in my head rent free. Aang never wanted to be the Avatar and grew up in a world that needed the Avatar. Aang is a human becoming the Avatar. Korra wants to be the Avatar and is living in a world that constantly tells her that they don’t want the Avatar. Korra is the Avatar becoming human.

    The Avatar's mastery over a certain element isn't really inherently better than anyone unless they go into the Avatar state. Just compare Katara and Toph's bending to Aang's. Not the best example because those two were amazing but still, it isn't stronger than anyone's by default.

    Korra is headstrong, aggressive, and has a very low threshold for frustration. She is also, at this point in the story, what you might call a "dojo tiger". That is, she is a very skilled and highly trained martial artist/bender, but she has no real world fighting experience. Oh, sure, she can clean the clocks of a handful of mooks that are used to pushing around people that are neither benders nor warriors. But when she starts encountering actual fights, she tends to get her ass kicked. A lot of the first three seasons of this show is Korra getting bodied. Poor girl gets the arrogance beat of her... Which may have been the only way she could learn a little humility. Don't get me wrong, even at this point in her arc, I like her. She's got a good heart, she's forthright, and idealistic. The kind of person I wouldn't mind hanging around with, if not for her tendency to escalate things. In fact, she is so accustomed to fighting that she can't handle disagreements without escalating them. This gets seen a lot in the series. She gets frustrated with air bending training, so she escalates with Tenzin. When she eventually gets into a relationship, she can't handle disagreements with her boyfriend, so she escalates them. Because she can't handle frustration and disagreements, but she *can* fight.

    Season 3 is the best season in my opinion. But I hated season 2 b/c it messed up a few concepts from ATLA. But without certain things in season 2, season 3 never would’ve happened in the way that it did. So I’m so conflicted with this series. But it’s still enjoyable to watch for sure. Enjoy.

      Season two gave so much lore there was no room for interesting plot. It also made visible the biggest problem with the series: too many main characters to develop them enough. We all know what each team aang member was like any other member. And for example can we say anything about tenzin and makos relationship? Not really.
