River Metal Detecting : I Couldn't Believe The Finds!

- We are back on the river metal detecting with RelicManMatt. We returned to the relic honey hole and couldn't believe how many relics were left from our first trip. I was able to get some good underwater footage of relics and fish. It was a relic trip for the ages.
As always this is a how to metal detecting outdoor adventure vlog that is family friendly and hopefully a fun video.

Hot dang! RelicManMatt and I got into some more fine relics. This was another trip to remember. I was surprised at how fast the patina (color) of the belt plate and cartridge box plate changed once they were out of the water and exposed to oxygen. I have included pictures of both patinas. Do you prefer the before or after color?

Just thinking that either two dudes defected and threw their stuff in the river, or you found where two dudes drowned... either way, the lore is amazing.
Exactly! And the best part about this hobby is you can make up a story if you wanted to 😂 because no one truly will know how those items got there.

Hi Chiggsley! Just wanted to take a moment to thank you. From the bottom of my heart, I want you to know your content has been bringing me happiness for years now. I really want to get into metal detecting because of you, but haven't pulled the trigger on buying a machine yet. I did however rescue an old Garrett detector from the 70s or 80s I think from my parents! It worked for about 6 minutes, and poorly I might add, before it went kapoot. Anyway, thanks for all the smiles and good humor. You truly are a joy to watch in all your adventures I wish I could share. Keep on truckin, I'm on a less adventurous quest now to taste a Paw Paw fruit.
This video reminded me of when my oldest son would sit with me on the sofa when he was little and he would always hold his breath when you told us to. Great finds!

Figured there had to be more stuff in that area ! Part of the remainder of those 2 Infantry kits ! I was hoping you'd find the plates, and darn if you didn't !!! That's awesome. Pretty amazing those percussion caps were still intact. Great day for you guys.
We are still missing one box plate and one belt plate. ;)

Been relic hunting here in Virginia for 40+ years. A two-plate day is a rarity these days! Got to savor those moments! Guessing you were relic hunting Saturday as it hit near well 100° here in the Virginia Piedmont! Great hunt! Maybe it's time to switch to water hunting!

Would it be possible to come in there with a chainsaw or winch to move those fallen trees out of the way? Or just too massive?

I would be in there with a "Come Along" hooked to those trees and move them out of the way. No telling what is still laying under all those logs. And by the way I can't believe these youngsters haven't heard of Carly Simon!

Awesome finds but thinking about it, it's sad to think how those wound up there. Between the fired bullets and the artillery shell base.
I prefer the before colours, brighter red and blue.
I've never found a water plate but always loved how beautiful they come out. However, even though they looked great coming out of the water I like how they morphed into the patina they now have. They still look fantastic and have that beautiful aged patina!
I caught one too many giant snapping tutrles as a kid to wade in fresh water....pools are the exception.

I would assume finding all those artifacts in the water might indicate` the possibility of some amount of mayhem that caused them to be left there. If anyone died on that spot long ago, well, God bless them and I hope they're resting in peace.

I love your videos Chigg, out of cutiosity, with the buckles, do you clean them up, (polish them, get rid of the tarnish) or do you leave them as they are. Your videos make me want to go out and get a metal detector, but I live in NW Indiana, no civil war relics around here.
It's best to leave the original patina on them.
May I ask what that cartridge plate came up as on your detector? Great finds. Congratulations
